Bad timing for the football players.

If true, then the NU LSU Bo Pellini bidding war shall be fun to watch. :devil2:

ESPN reported that Pelini knew that Miles was leaving and that he would not be hired at LSU, explaining why he accepted the NU position (assuming the reports are accurate). They basically threw NU under the bus, saying no coach in their right mind would choose NU over LSU, therefore, Pelini must have known that he was not a candidate for the LSU job.

That is because LSU thinks they are getting Spurrier or Saban.

Just so I don't come across as a completely biased homer that is bashing NU, it's only fair to also mention that ESPN reported that Pelini nailed down the NU job based on his representations that he will put together a very good staff at NU. This might mitigate recruiting concerns on Pelini.

With that said, **** NU.

Saban? Really?

I thought all along that they would target Spurrier. I'm just amazed that Miles and Pelini are getting better jobs. I thought they did a pretty mediocre job with LSU this year.

LSU coach Les Miles will meet with the media at the Georgia Dome before the SEC Championship Game to announce that he is staying at LSU, a source told ESPN.com.

LSU associate athletic director Herb Vincent said Saturday morning that ESPN reports that Miles had accepted the head coaching position at Michigan were "inaccurate." Miles agreed to a contract extension Saturday with LSU.

Miles, who played at Michigan and served two stints as an assistant under the late Bo Schembechler, has been eyed as a successor to Lloyd Carr, who stepped down after the Wolverines' loss to Ohio State last month.

Miles has been head coach at LSU since 2005. LSU is 32-6 with Miles at the helm, including 22 wins in his first 26 games as coach, and won 11 games in 2005 and 2006. The No. 7 Tigers (10-2), whose two losses this season both came in triple overtime, will play Tennessee in the SEC Championship Game on Saturday.

Miles also coached at Oklahoma State, posting a 28-21 record between 2001 and 2004, and was tight ends coach for the Dallas Cowboys between 1998 and 2000.

Miles has a 60-27 overall record in seven seasons as a head coach.

Kirk Ferentz' dream come true.

Les is going to make a press conference stating that ESPN was wrong and that he is in fact staying at LSU. Grant it, he could be doing this to "re focus" the LSU kids on the big game. Either way, if he does in fact pull a "Saban" and bolts for UM this would speak volumes about his character.

Just saw the press conference. It sounds like he's staying. But he never came right out and said he was staying. He didn't say anything about an extension. Just "I am the coach at LSU" Kinda like he left the door open.

LSUSports.net release

ATLANTA -- LSU Chancellor Sean O’Keefe has reached an agreement with Les Miles on an amendment to his contract that will secure Miles’ position as head football coach of the Tigers.

Miles authorized his representative, George Bass, to negotiate the terms of the contract with LSU. Terms and conditions of the contract have been agreed upon and will be presented at the next meeting of the LSU Board of Supervisors on Dec. 6.

Miles will not entertain any offer from the University of Michigan to become the Wolverines head coach or from any other institution. The University of Michigan on Wednesday requested permission to discuss its open head football coaching position with Miles.

If Hairball hadn't ran his mouth about Meatchicken earlier this year he'd have a legit shot at the job.

I gotta admit, I'm surprised Miles (or anyone, for that matter) talks to anyone while their season is still going (not talking bowl season). The dude and his team are playing in the freaking SEC Championship game this week and he's holding press conferences about the Michigan job. This coaching stuff is all a big distraction to him and the team. I wouldn't be surprised to see Tennessee whoop LSU today.

If that were me, I'd tell Meatchicken and anyone else that we can talk after the game today, but not until then.

Michigan hasn't spoken with him, they got permission to do so after the game tonight. They've been talking to his agent.

And his agent has been talking to him. And clearly LSU has been talking to him, too. What I mean is that he should tell everyone (including his agent) that he's not talking about his contract or any other coaching offers until after the game today. JMO, of course.

I agree. I think his agent is driving things, he was getting into serious talks about UM (with or without Les' direct permission) and LSU caught wind of it and went straight to Les to deal with things.

Saban, are you kidding, and where did you get this bull ****?
Miles is going to sign a contract extension, the only thing Saban will ever be to LSU is their bitch.

At least he doesn't smell like corndogs anymore...

Amusing turn of events. There has to be more to the story.

Obviously the informal inquiry must have been made. He said he was interested. They asked for formal permission. The money must not have been right (allgedly UM underpays on assistants).

He used it to motivate his players after it got leaked. :smile2:
