Living in Dallas, nobody knows anything about the Buffs, except the sordid past thanks to Barnett. Let's get this story into the Dallas Morning News.

that sordid past was thanks to a lot of people the least of 'em was GB. he made one un-PC comment, no matter how true it was.

you wanna blame someone? how about a media that will dig no deeper into a story than the surface if it will damage the sensationalism they so despratly seek.

a DA who was/is completely incompetent.

screwed up girl(s), one of which wrote in her journal that she would ruin the life of ........... .............. (cant remember the name) wether he did it or not.

a completely incompetent leadership structure at the top of the university.

ect....

all that GB did was make an completely un PC comment, which i love because it ooooozzzzzed with truth and i love that.

telling the truth is not a bad thing. it can be taken as such when you allow a bankrupt political/media culture tell you it is and you dont do some thinking on your own.

that being said, it didnt help matters.....

Believe what you want to believe....Barnett was ultimately responsible for the downfall of the prgram, and that is why he will never be a head coach in D-1 again.

on the football feild yes. i was not defending GB as a ball coach. i was defending him as a person who had a bunch of crap pile on him that was out of his control. that is not fair to him.

i will freely admit that we saw a great drop in the quality of the on the field product while he was coach after the '01 season till '05.

that has nothing to do with what i posted earlier. perhaps we were trying to make different points?:smile:

If it were not for those events a lot of the good we have today would not have come about. Tharp would probably still be AD. GB would have sweated his way through a 4 win season. Betsy would probably have been a pretty good president but no more special than any of her predecessors since Gordon Gee. It was a bad time. But, a lot of good came from the ashes.

My point was that GB was responsible for the Buffs' on and off the field performance. Yes, he was surrounded by incompetence at levels above him, and the media was not fair. So what. He made several stupid comments, and mis-handled multiple situations. Coaching at the D-1 level is the whole package, not simply recruiting and game-day decisions.

And, that is the reason he will not coach again. Not his on the field performance. His record is respectable.

I agree. At some level he and Tharp were responisble for NOT running a tighter ship. GB did a great job following Neu. However, somewhere there was a missing piece. Those two (Tharp and Barnett) failed to put it all together like Marolt and Mac did.

So I assume that Bobby Bowden will never coach again? Joe Paterno? Pete Carroll? Jim Tressell? Bill Callahan? (ok, you might have me there :smile2:...)

All have had fairly high profile situations with players being in trouble under their watch.

Ummm, I hate to break it to you but I think there is just the slightest chance that the bootlegger's boy might not coach again. I'm just cherrypicking the guys who might help make my point... :smile2:

I never said he wasn't a good man. I think he was and still is.

What happened at Lisa Simpsons party was not his fault other than to say he and Thrap should have kept tighter reins on the recruits and their handler (the kid who actually hired the escorts for personal use). They might have prevented some of this from taking place. Its because of the bad things he said to the media as the scandal exploded that really hurt his image.

What did him in from a coaching standpoint was losing badly whenever we played a top 10 team. In my mind that is why he was fired and not the scandal. If he had beaten Texas in the big XII title game or at least been competitive he might still have his job. For one more year. I don't think he would have survived 2006 though I do think he would have won more like 4 games instead of 2.
