Rae Carruth to be released from prison

I'm not sure how many AllBuffers remember Rae Carruth? But he was Carolina's 1st pick in the 97 draft. That alone tells you how good a receiver he was at CU. Anyway the Eeee S Pee N link below reveals some interesting insight to Rae's life while he was behind bars, and his son now 17. The one thing it doesn't touch on, is what Rae's plans are when he gets released this Monday.

He should have been behind bars for his entire natural life.

What he did to that woman is inexcusable. The result of that act also had huge consequences for the son who Carruth was trying to get rid of.

Thank God and a miracle of a grandmother that son is a happy and loving human being despite the damage done by Carruth's evil actions.

**** that POS. He's one of the very, very few people of whom I'm ashamed as a CU Alum. He should have recieved at least as lengthy of a sentence as the actual shooter considering it was his plot, he was involved, he ran instead of surrendering to police, and he had the absolute gaul to ask for custody of the kid.

Most of the time I think that the justice system in this country fails the perpetrator, but in this case it definitely failed the victims as well.

If I never hear his name again it will be too soon.

Tsarbomba and I watched the Real Sports episode (a few years ago) that dealt with Chancellor and Saundra Adams. I was impressed by all that Jon Embree had done for them - he seems like a real stand-up guy.

As for Rae, he doesn't deserve to be in his sweet son's life.

Taking this in a slightly different direction; what does Rae Carruth do now that he’s out of prison? I’m assuming any money he had from playing football was directed towards the upbringing of his son. He’s a guy with no life skills, is a convicted felon, and is what, 45 years old? Nobody in football would hire him. He has no coaching ability that I’m aware of, and his background would make him toxic to even a high school program.
It could very well be that being released from prison was the worst thing that could happen to him.

I was very disappointed in how Embree handled getting fired from CU but even that I understand. He was a guy losing the job he had dreamed of his entire adult life. Probably fair to put more of the blame on Mike Bohn for sticking him out in front of the media like he did in the middle of all that stress.

Other than that one incident Embree has been a quality individual. An excellent teammate, a hard working and intelligent coach, and most importantly someone his friends and others could count on.

The work they have done for Chancellor has gotten a lot of attention as it should but Embree has also been there for a number of other Buffs in their times of need.

Chancellor may have a slimeball for a father but he has a great "uncle" for life. Long after the publicity fades away Jon and the others will be there for him.

In prison he worked as a barber. He got a lot of practice on some brutal skulls. I am sure by now he is probably pretty good.

After he does his halfway house stuff, he’ll be eligible for work programs. There are many barbershops hiring. He can find respectable work. It’s up to him to make the rest of his life meaningful. If he fouls up in any way, he’ll be back in prison.

RC’s involvement in this crime was horrible and totally indefensible.

On the same token, he has served his time. I hope he is rehabilitated.

This is my feeling. For my part, I think he got off light, considering what he did.

Having said that, he's a free man today, and I hope that he is able to be a productive member of society. I don't know if I can go so far as to say I wish him the best, but I hope that he's never on the wrong side of the law again and he spends the rest of his life trying to atone for his sins.

Do I unfortunately have memories of him as a player, Washington in the Holiday Bowl, I'm pretty sure, 33-21? Being a dad, I don't know how he could get to that place where he could be a part of that? Do I think he should've ever got out? I do not. I'm all for people getting a second chance, in this case, it shouldn't be him having freedom. Just a sad situation all around. I'd think he'll have a probation, he'll probably be back in the clink, if he didn't learn a damn thing.

He is a free man from a perspective of not being behind bars and living in the prison.

Manhattan is correct in his last statement. He isn't free in the way that most people think. He is out of jail but he has not served his entire sentence. Having been involved in a violent felony he will be on parole for a number of years and I would imagine his parole conditions will be fairly tight. Sending him back to finish his sentence won't take a lot.

It is good that he learned a skill that he can in a very real manner use to make a living on the outside. Many released prisoners end up back in because they don't have the skills needed to get a job that pays well enough to support themselves. Having committed a violent crime many occupations are shut off to him even if the employers were willing to hire a con. At least we can hope that he is able to earn enough to support himself and not be a financial burden on society.

I love All my Buffs... but this makes me sick. I will never understand how someone could do something this cold/selfish. Do not agree with his release. Cherica Adams doesn't and will never get that opportunity. The guys that pulled the trigger could have always said NO, but rae put the plan in motion. I hope he spends the rest of his life turning over every penny made to help his son Chancellor Lee Adams.
