Official Buffs vs. ****braska Game Thread

I never thought I’d be so famous! It’s endearing that you thought about me all day long though.

Don’t worry though, unlike all of you in here bitching about the lack of Buffs fans, I actually put my money and support in the program and went to the game and witnessed it first hand.
 
Well, great game. One of the best CU games I have ever seen.

I watched the 1st half, then left for my boy's baseball games. As I sit in the stands thinking CU is probably losing, a friend, out of the blue, no warning at all, blurts out, "CU beat Nebraska". Gee, thanks, I was taping the second half to watch. GRRRRR. Anybody who knows me knows I am an avid CU fan. Oh, well.

As I watched, having the outcome spoiled, I was very impressed at HCMT's demeanor and coaching chops. Folks, he is here to win, no more MikMac golly gee whiz approach, no more Embree miscues (love the guy, but he wasn't ready for the HC gig), no more DII Danny daddyball and chicanery. If CU can hold on to HCMT, CU will be a force on the P12 and national stages.

The halftime adjustments were simply marvellous. I don't know if it is the new system still grinding its way into the heads of the players or two bad original game plans, but CU is coming out after the half firing on all pistons. That is what well coached teams do.

Jay Johnson needs a wheelbarrow to carry the massive set of cajones he is sporting, that flea flicker was the bomb...literally and figuratively.

All that being said, NU is not that good. Always fun to beat the red hoard. Especially so when they have returned to their alleged felon playing ways, and talking ****, whining about losing last year. They are going to get pounded in the B1G. They may not even go bowling. Frost is not a good coach. That was likely the last time CU sees him on the niblet sideline.

My biggest takeaway from this game is the Buffs. Never. Quit.

They never flinched. They never wavered.

To come back from being on the bad side of a lopsided score, you need everything to go your way. That didn’t happen. Not by a long shot.
  • After the flee-flicker, Washington scoring on the very next play would have caused most teams to quit.
  • I thought they needed Tony Brown to make that first catch that went through his hands and bounced off his shoulder pads.
  • I thought they needed that completely ****ing obvious PI call in the end zone by the student section. How that wasn’t called, I have no ****ing idea - horrible.
  • On 4th and 1 from inside the 10, the Buffs needed a stop to keep it tied 24-24. Instead, Martinez can't find any one open, but uses his athleticism to scramble for the score. NU 31-24 with 5:49 remaining.
  • I thought they needed Viska’s long return to set up the next score. Instead it was a fumble/turnover, giving the Huskers a short field.
  • I thought they needed the return on the INT that was called back because his knee was down. There wasn’t much time left.

That’s 6 major negative swings that went against the Buffs during the comeback. It is bordering on incomprehensible all of those went against them and they still won.

You did the work in the weight room. We can make the adjustments.

Trust the process.

This is going to be a different era for the Buffs. I can taste it right now.

It isn’t going to be without further adversarial situations. I bet we lose a game we think we should have won later this year.

But you know what? I bet we win two more we would have lost in recent years before the year is out.

Relentless.

Great observations. HCMT has this team playing to win. It is hard to believe this was largely the same squad who rolled over for Oregon St. Leadership matters.

Absolutely man. I actually felt the CSU game was one we would have lost in recent years, and yesterday is another big data point that this head coach is the right man for us. Go Buffs baby!!!

2 weeks in a row we win the toss and receive. imo, SM is better if he takes the field after some plays have been run.

KDN definitely does not think he is the #2 receiver on the team. love his attitude

that last sideline hugging pass was 4th and 1, 53 seconds left. oh my.

I worried at half time that the game might be decided on passing play penalties, called by the Big10 refs. all in all they were fair (and I got the sense, didn't like frost)

So much of what Tucker says just resonates with me in terms of exactly what I want my coach's attitude to be. "in these big moments, you got to play to win". EXACTLY! That was the exact opposite of the attitude Macintyre had, which is why we always lost those close games. It's exactly the attitude that causes Alabama to win so much. There have been plenty of times where Alabama was losing a game by multiple scores and then their opponent just turtled and allowed them to come back and take the win away.

Also another thing he said last week was turnovers are the most important part of football and they practice them all the time. I love that. Totally agree that turnovers need to be practiced and emphasized as the most important thing and you can already see the immediate results. Can't remember the last time CU had this many turnovers in the first 2 games of the season. Turnovers don't just happen, they are result of having the attitude of "need to force a turnover" and constantly drilling turnovers in practice.

The first 2 games of this season have proven to me that Tucker is legit the guy we thought we were getting and has me really excited for the future

Tidbits: players coach and brought up being an African American athlete. Touched on that last year, it’s a touchy subject for some but having a man like Tucker who these kids relate to is a big deal.

MT is the kind of coach Colorado needs and RG looks very smart so far.

KD called out the fans from last year for leaving and thanked us for yesterday. This team needs fan support and not just during winning, during losing too. It goes a long way to impressing the kind of recruits we want to see here. Nobody wants to play in front of less than full, uninspired stadiums.

Mustafa and Davion were huge on the defensive side of the ball. I felt like Landman, while making some great tackles yesterday, is probably experiencing the bulk of focus, getting more blockers his way and offenses trying to move away from him. I really like Onu too.

Yeah I posted that quote yesterday too lol. It makes it even more enjoyable that they think they’re better and they still can’t beat us and they’re still talking. What’s funny is they’ll never be able to prove it. They’ll go down as the kids who couldn’t beat Colorado once in back 2 back seasons.

Frost is just a complete idiot. On that Shenault fumble, I was like "what the hell is he doing on the field? what's wrong with him?". I've never seen a coach walk out into the middle of the pile like he was one of the players before
