1st day thoughts from Scout.com

J-Fly claims jersey #1, D. Scott will probably take #2...they can be known as the old 1, 2 punch I suppose.

Heard M. Simas looked real good and so did C. Obi.

Yeah, Simas was singled out by Cody Hawkins as a guy who looked great in drills. We have a very good top 4 at WR right now. The deepest I can remember that position being in a long time.

who are your top 4? Simas, Smith, Celestine and Mcknight? I know people have been saying this for years, but I think P Williams is going to have a good productive year(if given the chance)

I actually forgot all about Williams. I have some reservations about his drops, but if he can put it all together, he can be pretty good too.

Are we going to see any of these receivers returning kicks?

Also heard Maiva was running patterns and showing some ability to catch the ball. Could be interesting. Our own Mike Vrable. Also, Solder apparently looks like a real deal lineman. 6-7, 275, Nice. But Cody will have trouble seeing over him and Miller.

That's one of the things I was wondering about when I heard Solder was looking good on the line.

Does Nike make any platform athletic shoes :smile2:

Lockridge is a good thought.

Rodney Stewart obviously is as well, but surely they have someone practicing back there this Spring?

I heard Ballenger has a pair he never takes off.

I would think smith, celestine, simas and mcknight will be the top 4,williams drops too many passes. If williams could hold on to the ball,he'd be starting because he has good speed and can get open. There's not that many other wr's.Blackmon, crawford and some walk-ons.

I'm sorry, some people here have no sense of humor, not you but others.....

I guess we should be talking about number switches:thumbsup:

You have to laugh other wise you wont make it through life.

Patty two-hands, as some of my friends like to call him should do well with his uncanny knack of getting open. He still needs to put two and two together though to reel in those passes. Don't forget about Melton, he wasn't the most highly touted but he could be doing nice things as a back up. Otherwise, my 4 WR would be, Celestine, Simas, McKnight and Smith. I am not sure who is returning kicks right now but I hope that lockridge is used in the backfield more than as a returner. He hits holes so fast, even in practice yesterday he was hitting 'holes' created by the other TB lightning fast. He almost ran into the side of the bubble because he didn't realize how close he was to the side. Hagan started laughing at him, at least I think it was for that, because the other guys were looking at him laughing right after also.

I heard Lamont Smith was going to get a look.

From the Daily Camera today:

Josh Smith, D.J. Dykes, Scotty McKnight, Kenrick Celestine, Cha'pelle Brown, Brian Lockridge, and Jason Espinoza are competing for the punt return job. Lamont Smith is also in the mix, when he is at practice.

Celestine and Lockridge look like good options out of that list. Gotta say I'm not sure I understand how Dykes or McKnight are in the running, but I guess we'll see.

Probably because they are more sure handed. All the speed in the world is useless if you don't catch the punt...

I like McKnight a lot more than Dykes in that role. He's got more speed.

Agreed. I am all for getting a guy back there that can catch the ball consistently (that is the most important part of punt returning after all), but you do need to have a guy back there that has some breakaway ability.

McBride returned punts last year and he ran a 4.71 yesterday at the pro timing day. Obviously, that's not very fast, but he was very shifty and made some big returns last year (CSU and Oklahoma come to mind).
