Agree. I could see something along the lines of RG saying “if I can get approval to match this offer, would Mel entertain staying?” to which the agent quickly declined.
RG has said they are going to move quickly at least 10 times.

I live in the area and doubt it happens but Troy Taylor is a fantastic coach. Seems crazy but led local Folsom High School in Sacramento area to prominence 2012-15, put a ton of kids in big D-1 programs and Folsom is now one of the biggest high school programs in NORCAL. Took over at Utah OC for a couple years 16-18. Utah's offense through the years has been impressive. They roll a lot of OL, RB's, WR's into the pros. QB's always a threat. Got promoted to take over Sacramento State in 2018, a commuter school with pathetic results in the Big Sky conference through the years.
Sac State coming off 2-9 record in 2018, jumped to 9-4 last season and Sac State won a share of it's first ever Big Sky championship and I-AA playoff appearance.
He loves the Sac area, his wife's from here and I doubt he would leave but he has a fantastic offensive system, knows how to coach. If I was Rick George, I'd definitely kick the tires. Pac 12 experience, ceiling looks good, knows how to develop and coach high octane offensive system which can take advantage of Colorado's altitude.
We'll see what happens.

The alumni and former Broncos come up whenever we are in a search. It pissed me off after Rick left. Now I don't care.
Hiring the HC from Sac State is just way too close to hiring the HC from San Jose State for my comfort.

I think Chev really wants this head coaching job. He is retweeting people who say he should be head coach. It makes me wonder if he doesn’t get the job will he leave.

Not sure, don't follow the Utah program. But he landed on his feet, had a great season for Sac St.
I respect what Whittingham has built at Utah. They are in national discussion every few years. That said, I've heard on more than a few occasions that he is tough to deal with for the school admin and coaches.

Possibly. I can only speak to the results and as most of the qualified coaches got snatched up in Dec & it's February? The search will need to be deep and wide.
Biggest thing is we have to keep recruiting momentum going & developing producing great athletes. . Rick George knows this and it's obviously what led him to Tucker in the first place.

Rick George appears to be the man....I hope he does a 'revenge hire.' Takes away the #1 assistant from Michigan State or steals another mel tucker TYPE from a big P5 school.

I'm open to it but he's gotta be given a chance. He gets the same treatment Embree got let's not bother. He gets the same arrangement we gave Tucker, and we can throw the MSU buyout money at coordinator upgrades.
Meh, I was hoping for RG to be a little more candid about the past week and to have skipped the high road routine. Calling MT a “good man” wasn’t needed.

The only similar thread is they are CU alums. Caliber of coach, caliber of recruiter and style of coaching are different from alum to alum. Just because one alum filled staff was a dumpster fire does not guarantee another would be as bad. Having said that, I totally understand the reservation and hesitation.

I’m not going overboard, I’m stating the obvious. We are the only p5 team with a HC vacancy, and its not 2012 or 2017 anymore. The cupboard isn’t bare, and we have the foundation for something truly solid. Every p5 coordinator and former HC is contacting their agent to live in boulder right now.
RG has class. No sense in dragging Mel through the mud, he did a good enough job of that on his own. This is leadership. I'm sure that his message to the team was less PC.
Your last statement is just not true.

I feel like for now Rick George should be trusted to run the process.
He's increased donations, is obviously committed to CU and he made a head coaching hire in Mel ****er that in limited time showed himself to be a the type of coach that even people outside of the program saw as making real progress. Most of us knew that Mel was going to leave eventually, but we were blindsided by the timing which is terrible for the momentum of the program. I mean you would think you'd stick around for your first recruiting class to graduate...
It seems that AD Rick George has the ability to identify and sign a top flight candidate if his track record is any indication. Now the next step is developing a way of keeping the candidate via better contract negotiations.

This would be interesting to dive deeper into. My friends dad knows him well and from what I’ve heard he is a very high energy, no BS kind of guy.
