I dont know if you read the article but Kyle Black (transfer from Air Force) is going to be used as a dual-threat QB in the red zone. I HATE THIS IDEA! I hate dual quarterback systems (Florida 2 years ago, LSU last year, Va Tech last year) I know 2 of those 3 teams won national titles when they used 2 quarterbacks but I still dont think we are at the stage where this is a possibility. I hate to think we will see the QB Shotgun fake handoff to the RB running right, and the QB runs left (Similar to about 95% of the plays when BJax was here). I think this is a terrible idea and am not thrilled. Sorry for the rant, any other opinions?

from my understanding, KB can throw. BJax could not. that helps things.

my understanding is that they aren't talking about Bjax the QB they are talking about the "slash" role they intended to use him in last year.

for red zone offense, we were 10th in the Big 12 in 2007 ahead of only baylor and ISU. That is a stat that needs to be improved on.

hawk likes to throw different looks at teams. That's the whole basis of his offense. They can run 10 different plays out of a single formation, or run one play out of 10 formations.

Using a running QB is just another wrinkle and part of Hawk's whole "don't be afraid to fail" philosophy. We were told from the beging that Hawk would do things that we, as fans, would not like.

You know that WR motion-handoff play that everyone bitches about? Only Josh smith averaged under 4 yds /carry running that play. Dusty averaged 6.8; Williams 6.2; Celestine 4.5; and J-Fly 3.4. Those are not terrible averages.

My point is this: let's see how it works out. Kyle is a scrappy player and may very well give us a great opportnity to better our red zone percentage (which can't get much worse).

I just hope it doesnt come to him splitting the QB time 50/50 with Hawkins/Ballenger. One thing I would like to see is the little jump ball play that LSU and Florida ran on the goal line. When the QB acts like its a shotgun QB sneak and then when he gets towards the oline he jumps up and somwhat shot puts the ball to a WR. I cant find a video of it so that explanation will have to work. And I guess this will hopefully be a way to improve on those 4th and short plays.

Running the option with Cody - Meh.

Running the option with a QB that initially went to Air Force, which used to run nothing but the triple option? I can get behind that.

Could we become a triple option team again? I can just hear it now...."Running the option on first down Black has it, he has room, he's got one man to beat....now he pitches to Scott and he may take it all the way."

Basically a modern day version of this....[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jboOs9HVBDA"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jboOs9HVBDA[/ame]

I guess that wouldnt be so bad...

If he is seeing the field that much, the Buffs are in big trouble. I really doubt Hawkins is thinking about playing him that much, but if he is, ouch.

Actually, if the Buffs are in the red zone 50% of the time, I think that would be a wonderful thing!

I don't see Kyle seeing much playing time in the coming season. jmho.

Perhaps this is a device to get the team ready for W. Vagina. There is no doubt that Hawk must realize how huge that game is gunna be.

Kyle's a good runner, I remember he did damage to us his senior year passing can't really remember.

I'm not trying to slam the kid. But he really has no business playing QB at CU. I think they should put him back at safety.

But like daah said earlier. I think he will be important when preping against WVU. If we can pull of an upset, it'll set the tone for the whole year. Good things Buff fans, good things.
