Karl Dorrell officially named Colorado HC

Well yeah, I assumes he likes them and it would be his decision, not RGs. Having said this, if I'm Calhoun maybe I'd try and keep Chev for a least a year, in some capacity and with some hybrid title, just for the sake of continuity with the new recruits . Chev: "Psychological Comfort Bridge". But I don't know - TC's call.
I guess I should clarify, I see how it would be advantageous for someone like Calhoun to bring his entire staff, I’m not sure it’s advantageous for fans who want a winning program.

Well yeah, I guess it begs the question about hiring TC in the first place, but my general point was that at this stage in the timing, hiring an existing coach means getting most or all of his staff and that's not a terrible outcome. Necessarily...

We have an interim coach who some of you want to be the HC anyways. He can run Spring ball.
Lets hire the right guy even if it takes longer than a week.
I thought the purpose of spring practice, especially for a new coach, is to implement your system and to evaluate players to establish a depth chart. The HC should be here for that.

The proximity to Spring ball is irrelevant. That spring practice schedule was established by the former head coach and can be modified as necessary by the next head coach. There is no rush to hire somebody due to when spring practices begin. I will kindly ask that nobody ever bring up how close we are to spring practice ever again. Ever. TIA.

some of the conflict may be institutional given students/scholar athletes course schedule.....spring schedule to take more credits than fall....and when exams occur. you can't overstress players as students because the admin/coaching thing is in freefall. they schedule these things in advance for reasons. may be reasons the HC can't change the pre-scheduled Spring Ball dates.

i might not be right.....but i would think that could be an issue....i taught at CU for almost 10 years.

also, i never thought CU wouldn't have a "snow day" back up plan for December finals....and it turns out they didn't. few years back, hilarity.

grew up a Buff, loved grad school and working there....would not trust the "higher ups".

no plan B for Final Week in December in the State of Colorado.....where it DOES snow sometimes.....in the history of the University.

too much out of state tuition blown the wrong ways like green saabs and ski days for admins.

all i'm saying.

i could live with Calhoun after last AFA season. last year, i say no way.

i don't see why he would take it now, though.

Adam said he was hearing that if Calhoun was hired he wouldnt of been received well by a lot of the players.

Wait...

You mean to tell me that college players at a P5 school wouldn’t be thrilled about playing for a guy who has been coaching the triple option for the past 13 years?

Who could’ve possibly foreseen a negative reaction to that scenario...

I find it hard to imagine that an alumnus of the USAFA, who has dedicated a huge portion of his life to that institution, would leave with this timing, AND take his entire staff with him?

To spend so much time at AFA, and then to leave absolutely high and dry after the start of spring ball? I really doubt he would do that. I could be wrong... but its hard to imagine.

Yeah I think it’s one of the major negatives for Calhoun - for all the good work he’s done at AFA, he doesn’t recruit at a P5 level and bringing an entire staff of coaches who also don’t recruit at a P5 level sounds like a disaster.

kliff kingsbury got fired at texas tech and got an NFL job out of it.

Maybe. But more than a Jim Mora or a Bret Bielema without a staff? On 2/24/2020? CU's options are narrowing......time to pitch the ball to SOMEbody!

We’re not just hiring a guy for one season - give me the guy who recruits and can assemble a diverse staff that knows how to recruit at this level and I’ll live with some growing pains due to the s**ty timing. I don’t want to get stuck with Calhoun for the next 5+ years because we were worried about the start of spring ball in 2020.

USC was able to find 3 new assistant coaches in the last few weeks. The horror of such bad timing!

So'oto (DL from Virginia) and Donte Williams (DB from Oregon) are home run hires. I'm not conflating our ability to hire to be equal to USC's, but I do think it is not as horrific of timing as people are saying. It's not like Helton is a shiny new object.

Yaaaaawwwwwwn! Sorry, just jumped over here after waking up, then catching up with all the basketball stuff. Glad to see the general panic here hasn't subsided much.

Anybody stop to consider that RG already has a head coach and the delay is to allow that guy to put together a staff, so they can collectively hit the ground running...........just sayin'..................silence is golden, right now.
