Cable TV for Buffs Options

I'm thinking of starting up cable again. Last year I got comcast for the football season which seamed to work out well as most of the buffs' games were played on Fox Sports Net so I could catch them on the sports package with Comcast. I think I remember people with the dish complaining that they could not get some of the games. Anyone know what channels the Buffs will be on this upcoming season? I'd much rather get a dish system that support a company like comcast.

Here is the breakdown of Big 12 games last year. Really the only problem last year was Iowa State game being on Fox Sports Central. I know there are only a certain amount of TV slots for the Big 12 and they get filled as the season goes on. I also know the Big 12 signed some sort of deal with ESPN this year, don't know the details.

Iowa St. was the only Buff game I could not get on Dish. You could get it on DirecTV, but you had to have a pretty long list of subscribed channels as I understand it....

On a related topic...

I'm cable limited here in Brussels. I'll get AFN, which experience suggests will keep me going with a steady two games at a time between 6 pm and 6 am on Sat/Sun during the Fall. BUT, unless the Buffs break into the top 15 (fingers crossed) AFN won't show CU games more than two or three times during the season. I'll always "watch" the game on ESPN (gold line gets longer...touchdown...how did it happen), if I can't receive the broadcast, but of course it's better to receive a picture.

I've heard of some device--a sort of repeater--which permits somebody to "broadcast" the signal of their cable channel selection through the computer. Then someone in a remote (European) location could log on and watch the game on their computer.

Is this a myth, or does this technology exist????

Anyone??

Slingbox... Jim Rome is a paid monkey for them. SLINGBOX

I have DirecTV. With the Sports package, you get all of the regional Fox Networks and the ESPN channels.

The only games I can't get are the ABC regional broadcasts (on the East Coast, we usually get a Big East or ACC game).

Good. Sounds like that's the way to go then. Now to convince my landlord to allow a dish on the roof...

Just for the record, the claims that Comcast makes about Dish systems failing during bad weather are not exaggerated. My family had DirecTV from the time it came out through 2003, then Dish Network from 2003 through last year. Over that time I'd say the picture went out (or became so fragmented that it was unwatchable) 5 to 10 times a year.

Obviously there are far worse tragedies in the world, but man, when that picture goes out it is annoying as HELL! Uggh, and it always seems to happen right when you're watching something good. Just infuriating. If you do go with a dish, make sure to put it in a place where it's easily accessible so you can dust the thing off if a blizzard hits during a CU game.

You also get CSTV in case a game ends up there. I believe the CSU game in '06 was on CSTV. As for the ABC regionals, your only option if you live outside of Big 12 country is to order ESPN Gameplan. I missed the TT game last year because I didn't pony up for Gameplan.

Most bars have Gameplan - on the rare occasion that the game is ABC regional, just head to the pub for a brew and a burger.

We have watch parties here in DC, so I usually record the game and watch it at a bar anyway (if I'm not at the game in Boulder).

don't forget to spray the dish with Pam about twice a month.

i live in a mild climate, obviously, but i've never experienced an outage with directv that lasted longer than a couple of minutes and that has only happened a couple times. i have had directv since they started.

cable, on the other hand, i have experienced many, many outages over the years. and lots of really crappy picture quality, too... and, when i called to complain, i was told they'd get to it at some point and that they were aware of the problem... then, i'd say i don't want to be charged for the 2 weeks until they fixed the issue and we'd get in a big fight and then eventually they'd give me a credit for the time i waited for them to fix the crappy old cable lines.

given the competition from sat companies, i suspect that the customer service from the cable guys has much improved, but they will never, ever get another penny from me. when they had a monopoly on the market, they treated their customers with utter disdain and contempt. they can all go eff themselves.

directv isn't perfect, but the customer service people actually try to help you when you need them. and, the picture quality and reliability are 1000% better. and, with the launch of the latest directv sat for hd in the fall, they now have about a jillion more hi-def channels than any cable operator.

i have the college fb package and the sports package and i haven't missed any televised Buff game on satellite in YEARS AND YEARS-- cable guys miss games. dish guys miss games. not directv, fully loaded with all the packages... last season, that fox sports central game was not supposed to be on directv-- cable guys had an alleged exclusive to that small station. i called and complained to directv and i sent an email. 2 days later, they added the game to their lineup on some other channel and it was televised on directv i am not sayiing it was just because of me or whatever but i am damn sure that no freaking cable monopoly would have ever gone to such a step to keep the customers happy.

directv is one of my favorite services. period.

I disagree. I've had a dish for 6+ years. I think the sum total of time that the signal has gone out over that 6 year period is maybe 30 minutes. We had an issue with a bush that was near the dish getting in the way of the signal at times, so we cut back the bush. Every so often, and I mean maybe 2-3 times a year, during a torrential rain storm, we might get about 3 minutes of interruption. But it's always rain, not snow, and it always is coming down in buckets.

I watched the CU-CSU game a in 2004? through Hurricane Charlie on Dish Network. My flight to Denver scheduled for the night before was cancelled for the storm and my house was right in the predicted path(it veered east about an hour south and demolished east Orlando instead) but we saw the entire game, all the way down to Sonny's attempted Marcus Houston vengance ploy...two min after the game ended we lost power and didn't get it back for 5 days. we will lose signal occasionally with the big thunderstorms here.

The CU-CSU game where Klatt threw the lighting bomb and threw over 400 yards was the game where my recording went out due to the thunderstorm that went over CRock. Other than that, only goes out if the snow gets too deep on the dish. Brush it off, and it works fine. I love Direct TV.

Keeps the snow off. I always forgot and had to go out at 10:30 at night to sweep the snow off.:bang:

What is this "snow" you speak of?

Snow just ain't a problem 'round these parts. I bought a new shovel this year. Used it once.

Does anybody have or know where to get that 2004 CU-CSU game on tape? I was at that game and I've been dying to track it down for the longest time.

So how much do you end up paying a month? With all the options I want (sports, hd, 2nd tier cable) it looked like I come in at about 55 bones a month. Does that sound about right? Seems expensive.

i dunno-- it depends greatly on the options you want... their website lets you build your package and see the cost. i have the whole slate--- all the movie channels, plus hd, plus all the sports, plus everything else... it is like 100 a month or something i think.

I had good luck with my AT&T U-verse and the Buffs last season. I even got the ISU game on central Bumfuk sports network. If you can get in the bay area, it's worth checking out. Lots of high def programming.

The sports package on almost any of your options will get you all but one or two games a year. Its not cheap, but well worth it if you love your Buffs like I do.
