The more I learn about this, the more it smells. He had no prior incidents. He was held our of early spring practice due to a grad issue. His incident did not involve assault on anyone. It was just a stupid, drunken incident. Yet he was dismissed from the team while Sipili, Geer, and Katoa are still there. Now, I love Hawk. I do. But this seems to be a case of a walk on being thrown under the bus while high profile scholly guys are given a second chance. I do not like this one bit. I also have heard that many of the team have stuck up for him and voiced there displeasure about his dismissal.

Well, most kids would probably be suspended from school after being woken up bloody and extremely inebriated with a trail of the blood leading from a broken car window...

I don't know, it could have been a cumulative effect of all the crap and Duren got the worst of it because he was the most recent offender. Sometimes life isn't fair. He looked liek a good LB to me, so it kind of sucks...

:yeahthat:

I'm guessing after the other incidents Hawk told everyone that the next one to screw up bad was gone. He screwed up and did something that was pretty stupid and got tossed. I don't see anything fishy about it.

I also don't think this has anything to do with him being a walk-on. It's not like he hasn't played and was never going to contribute. By all accounts he was vying for a starting job so it doesn't appear that he was thrown under the bus because he wasn't a scholly player.

i think the speculation about duren just having the misfortune to be the next one in line is probably correct.

had it just been an alcohol violation or something, he probably wouldn't have gotten kicked off the team. but, the combination of the criminal acts with the booze and coming on the heels of the other stuff... well, that was probably the straw that broke the camel's back.

and, even so, "star rules" apply in all sports, at all levels. if hawk made an example out of duren because he was a walk-on and not a star schollie player, it wouldn't be the first or last time that this has happened. life ain't fair. i don't really support preferential treatment for star athletes-- but you have to admit we've seen it at lots of different programs over the years.

finally, hopefully, the severity of the penalty to duren will be enough to seriously deter the rest of the team from acting stupidly for awhile.

The only thing I can think is that if next year will be his senior year and he will most likely be suspended from school, then he will be done anyway. But it still looks like a double standard to me. I cannot/won't say anything more.

And this shocks you why? I believe that his being a walk on has something to do with it but that does not surprise me. We will know how serious Hawk is about this stuff when he dismisses a scholarship player from the team for a stupid incident.

Does not "shock" me one bit.

Like the shocker gone bad?

It's a vast liberal conspiracy against Dave Logan and Mullen athletes in general.

I've heard Logan is getting involved, BTW.

Also, I believe this is the only incident in which there was no provocation and no grey area, per se. Dude broke into car and left a blood trail into a family housing unit at which he did not live where he passed out. That's pretty bad and all on him.

Coach Hawk was on Irv & Joe yesterday and Joe asked him why he was so quick on the trigger with Duren. Hawk said "you don't know how long I've had my finger on that trigger". That tells me that there were other things in Duren's past that put him on a short leash that we haven't heard about.

Not nearly as certain that this was the first time offense.

Regardless, if anything, it was certainly the TIMING of the offense. If the previous incidents had not occured, and there had not been many many many warnings lectured about doing the right thing the last few weeks...maybe the punishment isn't as severe. Who knows....but not a lot of stink from my perspective.

I hope Logan gets involved, I need a good laugh. I would love to hear how a high school coach would have dealt with Jake if he were the coach of CU.

I would like to hear Logan explain how so many of his players were kicked out of school? Cutlip and Jake come to mind. Then there is good old Lendell White. Gets arrested in Denver last month for being a dirt bag. I nearly laughed my ass off when they had his mom in cuffs and then dropped the, "Do you know who I am" on the cops. lol
