Great day in Boulder today. Warm and a great crowd-getting nearly 18K is big step in the right direction. Watching Ralphie V run twice was hilarious.
The good:
1. Both Hawkins and Nelson look pretty far ahead of Ballenger (to be expected).
2. Moyd looked pretty shifty at RB.
3. Devenney at TE looked pretty good. He seems to have some deceptive speed.
4. All the guys on kick returns looked solid.
5. Quite a few LBs were making plays out there. Burton was all over the place.
6. Overall, this team looks bigger (particularly along the lines) and faster than the teams over the last 3-4 years.
The bad:
1. The offensive line didn't look horrible, but we have a ways to go here. Solder isn't quite strong enough to handle DEs quite yet. Herrod just about ran right over a few times. As I looked at Maiva standing on the sidelines for a good portion of the game, I still don't understand that move one bit. The one bright spot was Ryan Miller. He looked very good.
2. Game got pretty sloppy in the second half. We still have a bunch of young guys on both sides of the field that aren't quite sure where they are supposed to be all the time.
3. QBs were a little slow with some of the reads. A couple potential big plays were squandered.
The ugly:
Special teams were pretty bad today. Two blocked punts, a blocked field goal, and a fumble on a punt return. The field goal issues look to be an issue of timing to me. Not quite sure what's going on with the punting game.
