I was told it was impossible to hit the ground running recruting as a first year coach. Was I lied to?

Are you referring to our currently 65th ranked recruiting class or MSU's 67th ranked class? Both are year 1 coaches.

I also think we're talking apples and oranges here. This guy has been connected to TX highschool football for quite a while. So any offers and relationships that he previously had easily converted.

People on this board are trying to hit the panic button because we lost a TX kid to a TX school with a very good TX recruiter as head coach during a time where we can't even have official visit during a pandemic...

Seems a bit ridiculous to me. If we have a mid 60's class in '22 I'll hit the panic button too.

So wait, are you suggesting that hiring coaches who know how to recruit and have had recent success in your footprint is a good idea?? Well f**k me, why didn’t someone tell RG?

It seems like you're conveniently leaving out the University of Colorado vs Universithy of Texas San Antonio, very different institutions and football programs.

No - I'm not leaving that out - but it's not like we lost an in-state kid to USTA or a kid from AZ or CA to USTA. We lost a TX kid to a TX school. A TX school that has won recruiting battles recently with Ole Miss and Arkansas. It's just nothing to hit the panic button over.

Does CO generate enough recruits to fill out a quality roster?

I think we don't know enough about HCKD to make a judgement. Like I said - another recruiting class like this one and I'll be worried. At this point I do not think that Mel Tucker would have done any better this year at CU than Karl Dorrel.

This should really get moved out of this kid’s thread but let me just say that our recruiting footprint is not limited to just the state of CO. We could fill a roster easily with the talent in Colorado, California, and Texas alone, then sprinkle in the occasional player from Arizona, Utah, and Washington and there are plenty in our footprint for CU. You tell me which part of that footprint KD excels recruiting? I’ll wait.

I agree we should move this out of this particular thread.

However, I will say that the 2004, 2005 classes would be classes with ratings that I think most CU fans would be happy with. This during a time when there was a juggernaut of a program less than 20 miles away that they had to contend with that was cheating to get recruits.

I guess I missed those references. However, you could be right and this is a one-off, and I've wasn't convinced about Tucker, but at least he seemed to have a plan and was following it. That is apparently missing from the current staff.

Funny how nobody says this about Colorado kids.

2004 wasn’t great, 2005 was good not great. One decent recruiting class in 5 years doesn’t inspire confidence particularly for a guy who has been removed from college football and recruiting for the better part of 13 years.
