Best non-CU game you've been to.

So as the days slowly tick away, we are left to think of some rather inane things to get us to the CSU game. I thought this might be interesting, and give us all a small taste of what's to come. So here is where you tell people of your favorite non-CU game you've ever attended.

Mine would have to be Michigan-Ohio State in '95 or '97. It was just one game, but I can't remember which year it was. Michigan's Tim Biakabatuka ran for some crazy amount (300+?) and outdid the eventual Heisman winner Eddie George. I was pretty young and I probably didn't even know all the rules of the game, but it was still amazing and memorable. And cold! Anyway, that was at a time when I was very influential and I was rooting for the maize and blue back in my home state.

ok, now who's next with their tales of college football nastalgia?

If we're talking football in general, it would have to be a Broncos game. Maybe Elway bringing them from behind to beat the Oilers in the playoffs in the Reeves era or the win over the Jets, simply because it got them to the Super Bowl for the only time (in a game I was at) that they had a reasonable chance of winning.

If we're talking college, guess I have to go with Mesa State vs. Carson-Newman, TN for the NAIA national championship sometime back in the 80s. (Since I've never been to a non-CU division I game). Would have been better if Mesa had won... :sad1:

jeebus..... where to start :smile2: 3 right real quick

1971 original game of the century OU vs kNU. kNU the winner with Johnny Rogers and Jack Mildren playing their hearts out for their respective schools.

2003 OU 65 vs UT 13. (there are several OU/UT games that I could put here) What a game. Largest margin of victory ever between these 2 schools.

2006-7 Fiesta Bowl OU vs Boise State won by Boise State in the 1st OT on gutsy calls and playmaking by their coaches and players.

05 Wisconsin v Minnesota. That rivalry is as much or worse than us and Nebraska. Maroney ran all over them we were beating them soundly (they were ranked higher at this point so it was sweet) and they came back only to block a punt with seconds left and returned it for a TD for the win. Horrible outcome but one hell of a crazy game.

1985 OU-Nebraska. Best memory is of Keith Jackson turning an end around into about a 60 yd TD. Amazing seeing someone that big able to run that fast; rather normal now however. OU 27 - NU 7... the way it should be.

Don't kill me, but when I was a wee-little-mite I went to some CSU games (whole family is CSU grads)... they sucked tho.

AFA was a fun game to go to when I was a youngster. Other than that, I haven't been to anything but CU games!

I would mention some UH games here, but really, they don't compare. More fights tho.

Definitely the OU - Boise State game......unbelievable.

SDSU v. BYU when Marshall Faulk rushed for like 300 yards. I can still see him running around the edge and down the sidelines. You KNEW something awesome was going to happen everytime that guy got his hands on the ball.

And to think, Tom Ozzy only wanted him for a DB position. What a whiff on that one!!!

Princeton/Yale sometime around 1980. I think Yale won.

Hey, it's the only non CU game I think I've ever been to. Seriously.

1980 Holiday Bowl, BYU 46 SMU 45

SMU had 446 yds total offense, Craig James had 225 yds rushing and Dickerson tacked on 110. However, Jim McMahon stole the show by leading BYU to 21 points in the final 2 and a half minutes ending with a completed hail mary on the final play.

That is freaking sweet.

I would cast my vote for another Holiday Bowl - the 1988 version. We went to the CU/BYU Freedom Bowl (a sad loss), and took the trip down to San Diego to watch Oklahoma State against Wyoming. Barry Sanders rushed for 222 yards and five touchdowns - in three quarters. Awesome display in leading the OSU Cowboys to a 62-14 rout over the Wyoming version.

2nd choice - Air Force over Notre Dame - early '80's - end of the Gerry Faust era. Always good to see the golden domers lose to one of the service academies.

I don't know if this was a great game, but I went to an SMU vs Navy game in, I think, '62. Roger Staubach was the QB for Navy.

I've been to a number of Air Force games and those against Army or Navy are always special. No particular one stands out, but the atmosphere is great and AFA is such a cool stadium to watch a game.

I think that may have been the most enjoyable game I ever watched, must have been incredible in person.

I think the OT element has added so much excitement to the sport that it is really unfair to compare great games prior and post the move to OTs. I would think since OTs began almost all the best games have had OTs.

Can you imagine being at that 7 OT game a few years ago? Who was it again? Mississippi & Auburn or something like that? OMG that was an unbelievable football game.

Yeah, no kidding. I think it's a shame that a lot of people that live in Colorado never make it to an AFA game... the gameday experience is completely unique to all of college football and really cool.

I went to every Rose Bowl from 1995 to 2001 and although I was young, there were a few good games in there.

I was at the OU vs NU game in lincoln in 2001. #1 vs #2.....the black flash 41 reverse pass flea flicker play to crouch....great game. i was rooting for OU in the student section. :wow::sad1:

but....it WAS a GREAT game.

The only non-CU game i've been to was the 85 AFA-Notre Dame game. Fantastic game, great atmosphere. I we ever let the CSU series slip I'd love to see the AFA series revived.

Boise State vs OU Fiesta Bowl

saw OU Nebraska game in about '81 in Norman - both teams were good back then - it was amazing even though I had no dog in the fight

Gonna cheat here because it's an NFL game, but the AFC Championship game when the Broncos beat the Raiders 20-17 in '77 was unlike any other football experience up until that time.
