im sorry that paper is garbage i wont even let it load on this computer

You prefer that POS the Detroit News?

Gannett owned that paper and it lost money. Then they swaped with Knight Ridder and sold the News to Dean Singletons Media News Group (think Denver Post). Now Gannett apparently has the pleasure of wrecking both papers so you could be right.

You sure you are not confusing the Detroit Free Press with the Free Republic?

I used to confuse the two, since the Free Press uses freep.com, and the brainstems that frequent the Free Republic boards are known as freepers.

Just wonderin'

I'm there 3-4 times a year, the actual city of Detroit is a cesspool. There are some nice burbs but not the city.

Have you ever been to Detroit? Why the hate?

i am fairly certain this is the main reason

You mean the casinos and organized crime running them? I know the river front area has undergone considerable changes but getting there may get you killed.

before i go off on you, i will first ask you politely if you actually have been to detroit and obviously seen a close friend/spouse of yours--hell even a random stranger--get mercilessly slaughtered right before your eyes. So, have you?

Nope, I read about the killings and robberies from the safety of the hotel. I have spoken to a few people who have witnessed these things, which is far more than any other city I travel to. Sorry if I offended you but Detroit sucks.

I've seen the movie 8 Mile, so yeah almost I guess. :smile2:

jeeeeez well that was too humorous to make a raving diatribe against. you're still wrong though. every city has its places you don't go to at dark. maybe detroit has a few more, but if you use common sense in an urban environment, you have nothing to worry about.

Seriously, the only times I feel scared, teary-eyed and depressed when I'm in detroit is usually about mid-afternoons on a Sunday at Ford Field.

I worked and stayed downtown in the Renaissance Center back in '98. At that time, I found it to be the most unbelievably disgusting city I had ever seen and could not believe it was actually a major city in the US. At the time everyone said it was up and coming...so for you to like it (and defend it unlike any of the folks who I worked with from the area), it must have come a VERY, VERY long way. That is good to hear.
