No change with play calling duties during bye week

I am still amazed that a supposedly smart businessman with a background in football/athletic operations would give Karl Dorrell a 5 year, fully guaranteed contract. The man was probably making $400-$500k/year with the Dolphins, wasn't remotely in demand for anything other than NFL WR coach, and yet, he somehow fell up to get something in the neighborhood of 7X his earnings over the next 5 years. FIVE ****ING YEARS, FULLY GUARANTEED. There are SEC programs who think that's a bad contract for even qualified candidates.

I probably missed the punchline, but I am talking about RG firing himself

A guy looking at retirement no less.

Is RG’s new contract fully guaranteed? It would be quite the indictment if RG is handing out guaranteed coaching contracts that the school isn’t even giving him.

Bye week may be an appropriate name.

As this keeps up (no longer an if) we are likely to see large numbers of fans saying "Bye" to the program.

Remember at the end of the MikeMac era when we had close to 10,000 no shows at the end of the season, this could be worse. Folsom may end up looking a lot like a game in Ft. Collins at the end of a bad season.

One of many business concepts that our administration fails to understand. It's almost always a better financial choice to do what is needed to keep a good customer than it is to try to get them back or replace them.

Absolutely. This makes no sense.

In no way did they have to give KD that kind of guarantees. That's almost Nebraska stupid.

If you do want to give guarantees, and sometimes they may be needed if you want to get strong buyout terms (not needed with KD either) then make the guarantees contingent on reaching certain performance goals. Win 50% of your games the guarantee is paid at 50%, win the division or reach certain level bowls and the guarantee is 100%.

3 glaring contract mistakes in a row for football coaches

As much as we are angry with him for dumping us I don't consider Tucker an error.

The error with Tucker was not being willing to actually give him what he needed to have a real program.

Yes he left for a bunch more money, and hard to blame him for that. He also left because CU wouldn't put money into assistants, into recruiting support staff, etc. He also left because CU didn't admit kids that would have been admitted to schools that are academically much more selective and ranked as high if not higher than CU is.

In short he left to go someplace where they would give him what he needed to win.

Ranked #10 in the country and being 6-0 is not a mistake hire, it is a mistake not running a program that cares about winning.

On the other hand hiring KD wasn't a mistake, it was a train wreck mixed with a dumpster fire and some burning tires thrown in.

KD is a problem. The blame now shifts to him. This version of leadership and lack of accountability is the final straw. He must go.
This is amazing. KD has coached 12 games at CU- basically just one full season- and taken CU to a pretty good bowl game, and everyone is already fully on board to fire him. I don’t think even Embree got us here this quickly.

I wonder if the folks who dug up Jon Grudens emails can give KD a go?

11 games, but a loss this weekend would make him 5-7 overall which would be very CU. Problem is he’s lost 6 of 7 with the lone win coming against an FCS program, recruiting is abysmal, and our most prolific offensive output came in his very first game.

Trajectory couldn’t get much worse.

There is almost no way assistant coaches have multi year/guaranteed contracts and the AD doesn't. Although, if RG negotiated his own contract, we might be in business!

I’m imagining a scenario where RG didn’t negotiate a guaranteed contract for himself but allowed an employee to do it. Oh boy.

I’m genuinely wondering if he is just so overwhelmed and has no clue what to do or how to fix it and therefore just doesn’t know what to say really.
I think that what he needs to realize is something psychologically impossible for someone in his position to accept -- that coaching offense, the thing he's built his career upon, is something he's terrible at. He'll dig in and be stubborn if he has any ego.

He’s never been a successful offensive play caller or designer, so yeah, the thought of having to implement and teach an offense as the head coach probably feels daunting, and at least he has Chev around to do that

Humility is crucial to being a successful coach. Only coaches who accept extreme ownership will be successful.

I’m sad.
So much talent on offense. We had 2 promising drives against A&M - misdirection, play fakes, play action - and then went straight vanilla ever since. It’s pitiful.
