Official Allbuffs 2021 gambling thread

Just added Idaho State at Cal Poly u55.5 for some late game interest. Two teams that struggle to score points.

Win - 2 Team Parlay
  • New Mexico +15.0 (-115)New Mexico @ Colorado
  • Colorado - 1H +10.0 (-115)Colorado @ UCLA

1-1 yesterday

Hit my Middle Tennessee -10 vs Fla International
Lost my Idaho State at Cal Poly u55.5

My Middle Tenn was my second biggest bet of the season.

And I've promised myself not to bitch when the Broncos likely cover today and I didn't bet.
There's discipline element in this gambling stuff that takes some practice. As they say, you don't lose bets you don't make.

Good day yesterday. I went 6 of 8 on Overs.

CU vs UCLA - Over 57 Won
TCU vs OSU - Over 54 Won
ASU vs UW - Over 45.5 Won
aTm vs Ole Miss - Over 57.5 Lost (I thought that was a no brainer)
Minn vs Iowa - Over 37.5 Won
Utah vs Arizona - Over 54.5 Won
NW vs Wisc - Over 41.5 Won
Mich vs Penn St - Over 48.5 Lost (Felt really good about that one, too, but was wildly wrong)

I also got paid out on the second biggest bet I've ever made (but pocket lint for ManhattanBuff) - Nebraska season win total under 6 games.

That puts me plus 14% for my history of betting that started last season. I'll take that.

congrats on the nubs I had the same bet.

This has been a blast. I'm going to shut down my betting for football at this point as the season goes into college rivalry games, conference championships, bowl games, and the playoffs. Started with a modest 4 digit bank and made an 84.6% return on it. "Happiness is". I didn't tally it up but I'm sure I actually lost more bets than I won, but my wins were on my much bigger bets, mostly on Bronco games for NFL and Middle Tennessee State games for college. I probably have the dubious distinction of now knowing more about the Mid Tenn Blue Raiders than any sane Westerner ought to know.

I'll definitely be back next football season. Completely uncomfortable betting on college or for hoops, but I'm going to give MLB a run in April.

Best of luck to everyone and beat up those lines....

Any MTSU thoughts for rest of year?

Good bets. Well done.

Thanks. They’re playing Old Dominion this week. ODU has improved markedly the last 2 weeks and the line is too tight. I had this game penciled in as an MTSU bet a few weeks ago but no longer. The new MTSU QB Vittiano is good but still settling in after he replaced his injured predecessor Cunningham. He’s going to be a rockstar next year. The MTSU RB Peasant continues to put up good numbers and the LB Blankenship is their version of Nate Landman. MT is not a great team but it’s a very balanced team which means a lot in a crappy conference. I wouldn’t touch this game with a long pole though. I’m a big Ricky Rahne proponent and I think he has ODU on an upslope. If I was betting I might look at North Texas over Florida International. NT is weak but FIU is horrid. The worst teams in CUSA/SunBelt are REALLY bad, (FIU, Southern Miss, Texas State). I like bets in CUSA and SunBelt because I think that the books are lax in setting the lines for some of the games, particularly when the games involve the
terrible teams.

FYI I hit the first Bronco game (Giants) pretty hard and made a bunch of house money. Did well with other Bronco stuff. I had well over doubled my stake over time then slid back and then moved forward again. What I really liked about betting was learning about obscure college programs and G5 conferences other than the Mountain West.

I also think there are some relatively easy bets to make on the service academies. Will hit them hard next year. Particularly AFA during the OOC slate and Army anytime. I lost my AFA bet vs Army against my better instincts because of my AFA homer-ism, and this even after I saw Army roll up 56 points vs Wake the week before with a lot of air yardage. My dumb bet of the year.

For me CU and WYO are hard bets to make because the teams are so unpredictable and the conferences are so squirrelly. Regardless of the lines.

BTW I hate most of the upcoming pro games but if gun to head I’d take the Bills -7 vs Indy in a heartbeat…..if I was betting.

Best of luck Hawg.

(Slight correction - the MTSU AD website lists Reed Blankenship as a Safety rather than an LB. In any event he’s a beast and shows up everywhere on the field. To use a cliche the guy is a disruption machine and if he was a bit bigger he’d likely get a look by the NFL. Of course if he was bigger he wouldn’t be in G5.)

Why/how to latch on to MTSU?

this is deep handicapping.

admire you pushing from table with a good stack.

hoping I can do same after UCLA -3. I’m certainly slowing down as these lines sharpen.

Good luck on your game. I started messing around with CUSA early on and noticed that MTSU was fairly solid on both sides of the ball, and in that conference that’s going to win some games. Stockstill has been the HC there for a long time and has a pretty experienced group of coaches. The team is predicable when it’s playing poor competition. And since I’m not from that pert of the country and have no rooting interests plus or minus with those teams it helps me stay objective. My MTSU thing this year just kind of developed and did turn into some pretty stout (for me) bets. Not that I’m a huge bettor - though I might increase a few more of my bets next year. Got to find a couple more teams like that. Some of the Ivy League teams look to be relatively predictable. We will see….

Your Bruins are lookin’ good…..

Thanks. Biggest bet of year.

Buffs, Oregon and Beavs on ML.
Only bet I had was CU-UW under. Big time W

Season total update (CFB only)
CU over 4-not likely.
Arizona under 2.5-clinched today with their loss at Wazzu.
Nebraska under 6-clinched like two weeks ago LOL.
Florida State over 5.5-clinch this if they beat a Florida team who looks like they've quit next week.
Tennessee over 6-clinch this if they beat Vandy. Heupel has done a really, really good job there.

I know you are supposed to call your shot before the games, but I always seem to be running around by the time I make my bets. Yesterday:

MSU +19 (lost)
CU/UW O43 (lost)
CU+7 (won)
Wisc/NU O44 (won)
Wisc ML (won - but why bother when you make about 30% of your bet? I won't be doing that anymore)
SMU +10 (lost)
Utah parlay -3 and U58 (won)
Wyoming +5.5 (won)

Been playing ML underdog round robins to very profitable results often this year. If I’d done it every week from the handicapper I follow on, I’d be making a killing. I Need to trust him and let it roll every week, not worry about the weeks where you go 0-5.

So far:
  • Utah -23.5
  • Utah -24 (after I saw CU's injury report on Monday - combined, this is tied for my biggest bet ever)
  • Iowa -1.5
  • Iowa/NU O41 (I didn't trust Iowa winning enough to parlay the two - NU has to stop shooting themselves in the foot sometime, right?!?)

I took Chicago in 2 parlays today, then read their coach has already been fired and the players gave up on him. Not encouraging.
