Wowzers! That would be huge news.
You didn't ask me, but IMO, it was the playoffs.
However, more than any rules changes, i think NASCAR screwed up going after markets in California, Vegas, Chicago and other places that don't GAF about the sport, while abandoning their base in the southeast.
I’ll buy the “changed marketing strategy” part. But I’m still curious about nascar rules that are damaging to the sport.

Nascar started following college football overtime rules like each QB gets to throw the ball 10 times through a tire tied from the goalposts. I used to follow NASCAR pretty heavy back in the 90's/early 2000's and now if I watch a race I can't even tell you what is going on anymore. I think they have heat races now and the order of finish starts backwards on the following heat, and if there is a crash someone gets to regain a lap. It's all very confusing to a old school guy like me.
I honestly don’t know what part of this is satire and what is serious.

The "playoffs" (sounds so stupid saying that in the context of auto racing), the "Chase", stage racing, first car a lap down gets a lap back under a caution, the overly strict enforcement on what teams can do to their cars, incessantly throwing phantom cautions to bunch up the field, pulling races out of tracks like Darlington, Rockingham, and North Wilkesboro, starting races later in the day, adding more downforce and less horsepower when the complete opposite makes the racing better, ovelry penalizing drivers when they get into it with another driver on the track. It's a long list.
There's quite a few reasons that the stands aren't remotely close as full as they were 20-30 years ago. Alot of the items above are gimmicks, just like putting an exhibition race in the LA Coliseum. In fairness I will say they've done a few good things like putting a 2nd race back in Darlington and moving the Southern 500 back to Labor Day weekend. There's also a real movement going on right now to revive North Wilkesboro, so that may become a reality in the new few years. But these things don't come close to undoing all the bad moves they've made over the years.
I hate to interrupt the NASCAR thread, but Stoops is a guy I've been surprised hasn't been a hotter name. If he wants to leave the job security he's locked down at Kentucky, now is the time. He's unlikely to have a better season there than he has had this year. This is the peak for that program.

If Whittingham retires, I'd be pretty surprised if Utah goes with somebody not named Morgan Scalley.
How does Utah do that after Scalley used the “n” word in a text to describe a recruit?
Is he still coaching at Utah?
That's the crazy thing. He survived that. But I'm not confident he's still the heir apparent. Couple articles this week speculating about Sitaki from BYU.

2018 Mark Stoops would like a word.
Stoops really does have it made there - moderate expectations, good support, great facilities, and he's paid very well. Football is something to keep the fanbase occupied until mid-November. This probably is about their peak for the most part but it's not out of the realm of possibility they could break thru once in a great while and win the East although it hasn't happened yet. And it's not likely to happen as long as Kirby is in Athens.
Tennessee won't stay down and Florida will bounce back fast. Plus, I think OU & UT shifts things in a couple years. Maybe Mizzou in the West with Auburn & Bama going East.
Will Florida bounce back fast though? They haven't won the SEC since Urban left and the 2 East titles that McElwain won were almost by default. Agreed that Tennessee may have found something in Heupel and it's almost a certainly that UK would be in the same pod as UT

Nah, OSU, Arizona, and Stanford are highly likely to have the same coach next year too. But still 8/12 new coaches is crazy

Arizona likely keeps Fisch. I could see a scenario where Jonathan Smith becomes a candidate at Washington-but he's still got an under .500 record at OSU. Shaw probably is staying at Stanford.
Arizona is not the type of program that can fire a coach this early in his tenure and get someone better. Fisch will be there next year and likely the year after at least
He has next year to take a big step forward. His buyout after 2022 is super low.
You’re right. I keep forgetting that he was here last year so it wouldn’t be his 2nd year if they fired him next year.
