OK I admit it, my CFB jones made me travel to Goat Nation to see what the animal husbandry specialists were saying about the Rocky Mtn. Spankdown.

Goat fan, at least a few, now believe they should "step out of CU's shadow" (like THAT will ever happen) and have a Rocky Mtn. Showcase and schedule UT, USC et al. for an annual game vs. the sheep.

Last time I checked USC laid a 49 point spanking on the goats last time they played. Why in the name of all that is sheared would the Goats pony up the dough to get plowed by the big boys of CFB every year? Isn't losing to CU humiliating enough? I call it mutton's glutton for punishment....

They are delusional to believe they can continue to have the RMS without CU's participation. See, they are upset that CU has options and they do not. They NEED this game, at Invesco, every year. It's by far their biggest moneymaker of the season. They need the revenue and they love the exposure the game gets because their other home games are very poorly attended. They cannot afford to have their home games at Hughes (as CU does in Folsom). So they're pissed. And then they come up with retarded ideas like that.

Why on earth would USC or ND or UT come to Denver to play CSU without a return trip? They wouldn't. CSU already did a series with USC, but it ended up being a 1 time shot out in LA because USC wouldn't come play in Hughes.

The only team other than CU that could fill up Invesco, and might consider the option of playing out here, is NU, IMO. They have a huge fan base here, much as it disgusts me. They could get a home game away from home as their fans would buy up 75% of the tickets. Add in that they get a fat payday for an away game, and they might consider it.

And does anyone know why we're even debating the location of next year's RMS game? CU currently only has 5 home games scheduled and my recollection about when the suites came into being was that the suite holders were guaranteed 6 home games a year. So why is this even a discussion? Why doesn't Bohn say it's in Boulder and that's that?

Even if they could get big-time programs to come to Denver, it's not like a game between CSU and Texas is going to be a big-time college football event. Just because you put a game at Invesco, it doesn't mean you're going to get a great atmosphere or anything. And if the game bombed, it would be beyond embarrassing for CSU. Schedule a game against USC and only 45,000-50,000 show up? Yikes.

I love hearing them talk about how great the RMS is for 'football in the state of Colorado'. I think that's their code phrase for 'CSU football'.

The RMS has done nothing for college football in the state, and no amount of marketing will fix that. In fact, attendance at both schools lags where it was when the series was re-started.

While I like the CSU game, I am amazed that some people still believe that the RMS has somehow expanded the popularity of college football in this state. The RMS is a way for casual fans to travel to Denver and feel good about themselves because they rooted their team on for one time a year. It has done nothing to create meaningful interest between the casual fans and the schools. Plus I love the argument that the games in Boulder killed the series.

That's the first thing that came to my mind also. What the hell makes the sheep think that a big-time program would be so interested in playing them in Denver? The only MWC schools that most big-time programs will play home-and-home are BYU and Utah, and that's because those 2 schools have decent-sized stadiums AND fill them up. The only way a USC or someone like that might be interested is if the would do a 2-for-1.

I don't mind the CSU game, but I'd like CU to play their home games in Folsom. Let CSU play theirs wherever they like (Hughes or Invesco).

I do not like going to games at Invesco, though. It's just such a sterile environment with zero personality (and no trees for tailgating).

Agreed. I am already in Invesco 3-4 times a year for pro games, I don't need to experience it for a college game.

I suspect the only way another BCS team would agree to play CSU at Invesco would be if the Rams scheduled a 2-for-1 deal where the game was played ONCE at Invesco and TWICE at the other team's home stadium.

Yet another reason why CU should dump this series.

I could see NU doing it, but CSU would have to give up more than 55% of the gate revenue to get that deal. And it would effectively be a home game for the holers.

This is untrue. The series was re-started right around 1983 or 1984. Attendance at CU games at that time was averaging about 30K. I don't know what CSU's attendance was, but I'll guarantee you it's better now.

Ok, technically you are right. I should have been more concise on that. When I say 'the series restarted', I meant the every year series that started in 1995. Not the on-again, off-again series from 1983-1994. They played 7 times from 1983-1994 and every year since.

Attendance is down at both schools from where it was in the mid 90s. Both teams are worse, too, no doubt.

The RMS is one of what, 8 games, that first weekend? If the RMS meant ANYTHING at all it would be the spotlight game and the Gameday crew would be here. There are 8 games that first weekend and the RMS is #7 or #8 on the impact scale.

How the hell does RamNation even function with that forum style?

It ain't 1996 anymore folks.

I agree... pick your home field... if you want to play hughes/invesco/5 star do it... we need more games at Folsom.

Let me check this logic. The RMS is where Lisa Simpson first hatched the idea to entertain recruits in 2000, which led to several bad years of recruiting, a 70-3 schillacking by UT, the resignation and buy out of Barney, the settlement of Ms. Simpson, and poor corresponding attendance by CU fans.

By my math, the economic benefit of the RMS verses the payouts is a wash. The only silver lining is that CU ended up with Hawkins and the whole world knows BVP is a punk.

That does it. Scrap the series.

Not factually accurate, but go with it.

The early 80's aren't anywhere near a fair comparison for CU attendance because the program was a doormat at that time.

so Texas is going to lose another home date (they lose one every other year to play OU in Dallas) to come play CSU in Denver?

that's some high flying logic there.

Well, no. It would clearly be an away game for the whorns. If the scenario would ever come to pass, it would be a 2-1 deal with the whorns playing two in Austin and one in Denver.

its weird... I live in FC and they act as though the Buffs are pussies for playing in Folsom... I walk them through the financial/home field logic and every year they come back to were pussies...

 Yeah. We're ducking CSU.

I went over to lambnation and damn near every thread is about CU. It's always like that.
