I've been hearing some great reviews on Hansen. I've only seen him practice twice. I guess i'm not really seeing it. That's not saying he's done poorly. But i just haven't noticed him really stand out during practice. Thoughts?

I've not seen him at all, so I can't really comment on him specifically. QB, however, seems like the position where there is always the great next guy and the only thing holding him back is that damn incumbent who only has the job because of seniority.

It something that just seems to go with the position.

NW makes a good point. The most popular player on the team is the backup QB.

I thought this was a thread about Tyler Derden.

Ringo isn't too impressed either, but the kid needs reps.

He can make all the throws, and had some good timing and good instincts and feet too in high school.

I just wish we'd had all these QB choices two years ago, and that Jackson wasn't DQ'd last year. If we didn't have bad luck, we'd have no luck at all.

the backup is only the fave. when the starter sucks....and in the buffs case, if cody were to go down i'm pretty damn sure noone would be very excited about it....take the chicago bears last year...people actually thought Greise was the next coming after dealing with Grossman! :wow:

I don't see him becoming the backup though. Ballenger has been doing a great job imo. But i wouldn't mind seeing Hansen make a push.

definately agree with ballanger...and i don't understand the hype on Hansen when mostly what i've seen and read is that he has as good of arm strength as Cody (never heard anyone say it's better), and that he has a lot to learn before you can make any assessment....kid definately won't see the field for awhile and he shouldn't either...i don't really see this kid ever being the answer for us even in the future, but that doesn't mean i'd love for him to show me up

Yeah, he'll r/s this year for sure. On the scrimmage vids his passing seemed okay - he did have the td to Melton. He does have alot better mobility than the other qb's, though.

While I agree that you red shirt Hansen, the reviews of Ballenger so far this fall have not been glowing. Could be interesting next year to see who gets the number two spot.

Ballenger looks like he is NOT ready back there. His flashes of good that i saw at the scrimmage were marred by an inability to progress through his reads and a tendency to hold onto the ball way to long. No "clock in his head" about the pass rush.

Definetly red shirt him but if Ballenger doesn't get better and Cody gets hurt, would you take off his red shirt. I don't think so, but its something to think about. Will he be our QB of the future or will we get another great recruit?

Since we have 5 QBs, 1 or more could probably get redshirted.

The kid's been on the campus for less than two weeks, and you already have that prognosis huh? I hope the coaches are more patient than you are.

It's just speculation. I said Solder would never make the switch to OT and he might turn out to have a NFL career. What else is there to talk about???

prognosis wasn't terrible....was just saying that we have a quality QB now and Hansen isn't going to come close to upstaging him this year...I welcome all the success he can bring us, but it's at least a year away, and I bet we snag a recruit that will definately be the MAN this season

Maybe my mind is failing me, but I seem to remember that last year there were a bunch of people talking about how Ballenger was the real deal and would displace Cody this year. That was true right up to the spring game. Now it Tyler's turn.

To be honest, IMHO, the jury is still out on all of the QBs. It's Cody's team but he still hasn't proven he can put the team on his back and win. Nobody else has any game time under them so it's impossible to say anything for sure.

seriously....when do the clark evans and jordan wynn threads begin??

It's getting worse. After their first preseason game, some fans are apparently calling for Caleb Hanie to get a shot at the starting QB job... :rofl2:

They'll start next year when they arrive in Boulder and a few reports trickle out about how amazing one or the other is when running the scout team or something.

Other than Koy Detmer's effort against Minnesota in 1992, when have you seen a CU quarterback "put the team on his back?"

You could say that Kordell put the team on his back in Michigan in 1994.

Who else? The 1992 Minnesota game the Buffs were completely inept with Duke Tobin at QB -- could barely make a 1st down let alone a touchdown. Off goes Detmer's redshirt at halftime and the kid threw the ball all over the place to get the victory.
