I think that conferences and media companies are smart enough to focus hard on rivalry games between major programs and the numbers those draw.
As it relates to CU, the B1G and FOX/CBS/NBC have to be thinking about the number a CU-NU game draws versus an average NU conference game.
By itself it doesn't make the deal work, but it certainly adds to the attractiveness of CU versus some other options.
I totally agree with you but I'm talking about fans. They would regret it (much like some CU fans regret/miss the NU games) but, in the moment getting to say "**** you" to Seattle/UW (especially husky fan) would be too delicious for duck fan.
Just for some color: in 2018, CU-NU was the tied as the second-highest rated game on NU's slate (only their game against tOSU was rated higher, although the game against Iowa drew slightly more viewers). It was the highest-rated game on CU's slate, barely beating out CU-UW.
In 2019, the CU-NU game was again the second highest-rated game on NU's scheduled, second to their game against tOSU. No other game on the Nebraska schedule was even within 50%. It was CU's highest-rated game, at just about 150% of the second place game (CU-UU)
Also, I 100% agree that if CU had to float the AD without conference revenue for a few years, I'd be all in favor of doing it if it meant a spot in the B1G. that's the end goal.
I was mistaken. It may be, but is not supposed to be taken as, a self reference. Rather Fluguar refers to his anonymous source as "Big Ten Man" -- supposedly a BMD for UM athletics whose in the know.
Good point. CU as an addition makes one of the existing BIG properties (NU) more valuable. That is a feather in CUs cap that many other Pac programs can't bring. Gotta find the positives that exist for CU lol.
Someone needs to tell them that Northwestern is in the B1G and all but one of the schools in the conference are AAU schools
If Stanford and Cal leave, the Pac 12 is a fairly JUCO level academic conference, so if what you and others have been suggesting about the administrations desire to be affiliated with academic prestige is true, you bet your ass they’ll beg for admission to the B1G

When I think about it, first I wonder if CU, including the Regents and Administration even care about any of this conference realignment stuff and CU’s future in college athletics. Maybe they are content just fielding teams.
Second, I wonder if they do care if they have any vision and plan in place? If they truly want to be elite in football again, how can they achieve that goal in the current climate? Without a significant increase in revenue, they can’t.

I'd love to see CU in the B1G, but I don't see it for various reasons. I think we need to go somewhere, not the ****ing MWC.

Yeah - our 20 years of sucktitude in football is costing us dearly. We'd clearly be in the top tier if not for that.

Also: I know I've said it before, but I love the relegation system for a large conference.
If we'd been as competitive as ASU, for example, CU would have still been in the strategic reaches section, assuming that success had no impact on the other categories, such as google trends or media market. However, with a little bump on those categories we could have been Utah.
If this is the kind of analysis that the conferences are using, then it should be VERY clear to everyone at the CU AD and the school at large that the thing that is holding CU back is recent performance.
Also it should be noted that in the case that B1G goes to 24, CU would not make it according to this analysis, it doesn't include what the SEC might do to get to 24 too. Could UNC, Clemson, Virginia, and FSU be more attractive to the SEC than the B1G? in that case CU would be in.

my two top schools (CU and VT) are "Tier 4 strategic reaches". No surprise, but FML.
Would the SEC want to move westward? ASU, Colorado, Utah, SDSU ? Wrap up coast to coast and big tv markets?
The question that I have in all of this is when do conferences start dropping their dead weight? If that 538 article is anywhere close to how the conferences are thinking (I have my doubts) then we would rank higher than both Rutgers and NW. If its all about money you would think the next shoe to drop would be trimming fat on some of these conferences.
