:confused:Just now on ESPN Kirk predicted the suprise team is Nebraska this year. He thinks they will compete for the Big 12 title. This guy knows nothing. Do you understand this. I thought he could've said the Buffs.

I like Herbstreit in spite of his pedigree and I respect Phil Steele as well. They both feel similarly on this issue.

Perhaps I'm too parochial to see it, but I just don't.

As I've posted before, but am unafraid to post again:

--returning very few starters from a crappy team.

--breaking in a new coach with almost no head coaching experience (a bowl isn't head coaching experience...it's one game). I recognize he's a fantastic DC, but it's tough to fix nebraska's defensive woes in one season.

--talent pool recruited for spread, pass happy offense.

--annoying fanbase.

Again, perhaps I'm wearing blinders...just don't see it.

Ya to be honest I absolutely hate Nebraska but I do respect the. I see them being like us somewhat when we got a new coach. I am guessing they are going ot ahve a season like our last year not a 2 and 10 season. I dont picture a Big 12 Championship run this season.

Herbie says that to ensure the long line of ****ers who line up to slobber his knob.

Herbie knows one thing and one thing only: Big-10 FB. Doesn't he pick OSU to win the BCS every year?

This is the same guy that picked Ohio State to beat LSU in the Sugar Bowl...We all know how that turned out..:smile2:

Nebraska 6-6, 7-5 at best.

for them to win enough games to be "THE surprise team" the turnaround on D will have to have been unreal. i think they win 7 or 8, but that's all it takes for the GBR crowd to flood every message board in the conference with "we're back!" and Bo "gets Nebraska football". and then the tried and true "breakout year". Heck, even Callahan did that.

The fusker D will be much improved but no D is good enough to deal with what their O is going to do to them.

The real lynch pin to fusker future success - bubble screen booger Watson running the O. Shortbus' genius offense of hand the ball off - low percentage pass - bubble screen - punt, will result in the pink skirt D being on the field all the time. I don't care how good a DC/HC you are, without any rest the D will break down. Mark my words, the second half of the fusker games this year are going to get ugly and by season's end those boys are gonna be dragging.

Season full of heartbreak for the cornholers....:thumbsup:

I hate those wacky fuskers, but they could easily go 7-5. Well.. maybe not easily. But its possible. Joey Ganz is a pretty good QB. and Lucky is a SR. now. I wouldn't be suprised if they won 7.

If I made money from saying the Huskers are going undefeated, winning the BCS and Super Bowl. I'de be saying the same things.

I couldn't have said it better! I'll be surprised if the butthuskers become bowl elegible.

And that's the difference between you and me.

Oh so you're not part of hierarchical organization that requires you to explicitly propagate views that may not be your own or ones that you don't necessarily agree with. I'm sorry my jovial little post that pokes fun on the Huskers sports economy requires you to go out and attack me for nonsense.

And I'm sorry my jovial little response which highlights how little I like nebraska required you to attack me and my service.

How did I attack it?

Through your insinuation that I'm a mindless minion working for the man...

As I reread your post, I understand your point a little better...which I think is we have to support our organization in its mission even if it grates on us a little.

However, when my joke was clearly that my hate for nebraska is so strong that no amount of money can get me to say a nice thing about the huskers, I felt your claim of an "attack" was a bit overstated.

What man? Which man? Who's the man? When's a man a man? What makes a man a man? Am I a man? Yes. Technically I am :smile2:

I was actually referring to my employment with Coach Gundy and the Oklahoma State football organization...

The cornhusker fans are in for the shock of their lives if they believe Herbsteit's nonsense. Over on huskerboard they actually think that they are going to win the conference. They really have convinced themselves that they are loaded with talent and all they needed was to get rid of Callahan.

And Joe Ganz is just ordinary. Hope he likes getting smacked in the grill after Watson sets him up with his predictable play calls. They have no playmakers at receiver or tight end, none. They have a soft front four and no linebackers worth anything. There isn't a single position on the field where I would take their guys over ours, even if Nebraska's players weren't a bunch of quitters.

If they get lucky and win all their ooc games they could have a good year. They won't. They will go 2-2 ooc and 3-5 in big 12 play, at best. They could be in for a 3-9 season, if their players quit again.

Nebraska has some returning skill on offense, but despite the new coach, you need players, the defense is sorely lacking.

Watson = Teh Fail. Lucky will get a lot of yards on screen passes, but getting 8 yards on 3rd and 10 usually isn't what you want...

Yeah, I agree.. I don't see all this talent that Nebraska supposedly has.. I'll agree they won't be giving up 76 and 65 points in a game this year, but I just didn't see that they were such a team loaded with talent so all they need is a good coach.. I don't buy that theory..

And its not like Bo Pelini's led-defenses haven't been smoked in games before. USC 2004, Arky and Kent last year..

The wins versus patsies on schedule make them a paper contender.

I'm not drinking the fusker coolaid. Too many "things" to correct. Too much coaching turnover. Too many changes in scheme. Too many changes in personnel.

They actually had a decent team in 2006, but that was the last year they had Solich recruits on defense. Then they lost 8 starters on defense and fell apart. They are blaming Cosgrove, calling him a moron, saying that his scheme stunk, etc. but did he get stupid in one year? No. Obviously the talent fell off considerably on defense, which gives me the impression that Callahan wasn't all that as a recruiter, which means that Pellini has a high hill to climb. Especially since players who quit on one coach don't usually turn into world-beaters. Watching the husker fans get pissed off that they aren't "restoring the order" is going to be fun this year. They turned on Osborne until he resorted to prop 48 scum and guys like Lawrence Phillips and finally won championships, they turned on Solich, they turned on Callahan, they'll turn on Pellini too.

The ironic thing about the huskers is that their own "best in college" fan base unkowingly helps propogate their on field issues:

1. Make no mistake, recruiting services are likely to "upgrade" a player's star status when he is leaning towards a school like Nebraska whose fanbase will pay ANYTHING to get more information on any positive spin for their football program. Rivals, Scout etc. are first and foremost a for profit business.

2. The media knows the same thing...that a desperate, starved Nebraska fan base will flock to any possible spin on their football team. This is why I see both ESPN and Phil Steele pandering to them. Let me quote Phil Steele on picking them second in the North:

"To put Nebraska #2 in the North ahead of Kansas is a little scary. The Huskers were just 2-6 in the Big XII last year and were outgained by 55.6 ypg (3rd worst). Their 11 returning startes are tied for the 2nd fewest in the Big XII (Texas) plus they are learning new schemes on both sides of the ball with a coaching change. Those factors should have me considering them at the bottom of the Big XII..."

in his own words he goes against his formula based system and makes an emotional "judgement" call.

3. They are the new Alabama. They are going to nitpick every coach in comparison to "Bear" Tom Osborne. If Pelini makes them solid if not spectacular with an 8 win average program, they will crucify him as not knowing "the Nebraska way" and run him out of town. Of course Nebraska fans retort with "look at OU". The problem is that OU has the biggest recruiting hotbed in the country at their doorstep. Nebraska on the other hand has really crappy weather and...lots of corn.

Wins over Vag Tech and KU made me think hard, but because they are in Lincoln I give the skers a decent chance. Those two are more toss up games IMO.
