Ranking the 2008 Head Coaches
Let the debates begin ... Ranking 1 to 60
By Richard Cirminiello

31. Joe Paterno, Penn State – Of course Paterno is a legend, but, like Bowden, this decade has been a weak facsimile of the glory days around Happy Valley. While he was named national Coach of the Year in 2005, he’s also had four losing seasons since 2000. Oh, and during that time, the Lions are a pedestrian 32-32 in Big Ten play.

30. Dan Hawkins, Colorado – The Hawk is beginning to get off the ground, comforting news for impatient Colorado fans. Although he has just eight wins in his first two seasons, the Buffs improved dramatically in 2007 and continue to upgrade the talent level. Once he gets his system flowing, look out, Big 12.

29. Rick Neuheisel, UCLA – Say what you will about Neuheisel’s off-field shenanigans, but the guy knows how to produce results. At both Colorado and Washington, he won twice as many games as he lost and three times finished in the top 10. How he handles this next gig after a six-year absence will define him as a coach

That's classic about trickyricky. He won the first two years at both schools w/ other coaches players. After he started getting his own, both teams started losing.

Obviously a very subjective list, but overall, not too bad.

Troooo on Ricky. Give me a break.

Good to see Charlie Weiss right in the middle of the D1 pack, where he belongs.

I searched the list twice for Pelini's name. For God's sake he's got the highest winning percentage of any active coach in D1 football. Doesn't that count for anything. Of course not, silly huskers.

That DUI guy from Ohio University made the list though. Silly huskers.

30th is fair enough for a guy who hasn't put together a winning season at CU yet. I wouldn't trade him for anyone else on that list. What a great fit for Boulder!

after ucla only wins 1 or 2 games this year, i wonder of ricky's "supposed" reputations will still be intact???

Ricky is going to get a free pass this year, more blame will be heaped on Dorrell by UCLA fans than Notre Dumb fans heap on Ty willingham.

Agreed. I think even the most ardent UCLA fan knows that this year is gonna hurt something fierce. In the long term, if he can keep his OC & DC, I think RN will do very well at UCLA.
