It's Time - The "John Denver Bowl" preview has been posted!

Greetings, Buff fans, from http://www.cuatthegame.com!

Well, this is it. The “John Denver Bowl” is upon us. Will it be a “Rocky Mountain High” for the Buffs, or will the Mountaineers enjoy the ride back home on “Country Roads”?

With a bye week, I have had the time to put together an extensive “T.I.P.S.” for the game for you:

Talent focuses in on the greatest discrepancy between CU and WVU - and it isn’t at the quarterback position;
Intangibles - why you must be on time for kickoff on Thursday night!;
Preparation - three Buff starters will be back on the field for the Mountaineers who missed time against Eastern Washington; and
Stats - Frustrated by CU’s pass defense? Well, it’s still better than the Mountaineers (and the Cornhuskers!)

West Virginia trivia you NEED to know, including: West Virginia’s legendary coach (who came after Bobby Bowden); the first nickname for the Mountaineers; and more!

This day in History - September 18th includes stories about Bear Bryant, the first-ever Mountain West Conference game, and, for Buff fans, the first win for Bill McCartney (a shutout on the road!).

Archived Game of the Week: CU takes on Boston College in the 1999 Insight.com Bowl. The connection to West Virginia? Well, BC was a member of the Big East at the time ....

Much to digest, and only a few days to do it! Enjoy being one of only 39 teams out of 119 which are still undefeated! (Unfortunately, eight of the 39 reside in the Big 12) - http://www.cuatthegame.com

Go Buffs!

As always, Montana, this is a GREAT read.

I concur wholeheartedly with the importance of emerging from the first quarter with momentum. These are indeed two teams plauged by doubt.

If I'm not mistaken, the Mountaineers have yet to outgain an opponent in total yardage (okay, okay two games BUT one was against 'nova).

I'm SO looking forward to this game, commencing at two-thirty on Friday morning, Brussels time.

Go BUFFS!

The 'John Denver Bowl'?

Oh, God! What is this, 1977?

That moniker has as much charm as a second divorce, a second DUI, or an ill fated flight in an Burt Rutan designed experimental aircraft.

As long as you know you're going to hell, Skiddy, and you're comfortable with it...

The overlap between people who like John Denver and those who prefer the folksy "ol" to the more traditional "old", is exactly 100%.

Just for the record, I've been known to tear up, when drunk, to "Rocky Mountain High". What a great ol song that is.

Going to hell? :huh: I live in Dallas.:cry:

I have nuttin' against John Denver. It's just sad when pop cultural references about the game are two decades older than the players of the game.

Considering the sharded history of mine trailings that are encountered in both states, EPA Super Fund Bowl gets my vote.

Definitely enjoy you work there, but I have one small request:

You are the one person I know of (television personalities included) who actually uses the "Football Championship Subdivision" and "Football Bowl Subdivision" monikers to describe the two leagues. Please stop doing that! It's I-A and I-AA, dammit!!

No one hates the FCS and FBS more than I, but unfortunately, I live in a FCS town, and so those titles are all I ever see in print here in Bozeman. I'd like to see the return of 1-A and 1-AA, but I doubt it will ever happen! :deadhorse:

Since I am connected with the aviation community, I have heard that the plane was not the issue, the problem was that he accidentally put in a 'John Denver's Greatest Hits' CD in and that put him to sleep.:huh:

Actually, it was where the fuel tank selector switch was located; when the engine ran out of fuel he had to reach under the seat to select it and in doing so moved the control stick and rolled the plane inverted at too low an altitude. 4Dem, is that what you heard?

Great read as always montana....i'm hoping the Buffs come out at full speed to start the game and set the tone that it will be a long night for the rednecks

Thanks, RuffBuff and Raalph3000 - for you support and comments.

As game day approaches, I am getting more and more nervous about starting fast. If CU gives up an 84-yard, nine-play touchdown drive to WVU to open the game (as the Buffs did against EWU), it could be a long night.

By the same token, a quick start with positive results (scoring first, three-and-outs on defense), and the Buffs could dominate.

Just too many variables .....

Go Buffs!
