Do you guys think Polk sees the writing on the wall and transfers after this season? Seems very likely to me given that his fellow freshman RBs are getting all of the carries. Also a little scared that Scott may be wavering because he isn't getting the primary role. Thoughts?

nah, relax, they are true freshman, it could be DS next week, Polk next year, just like the backfield in 2001, Chris Brown didnt play much in kNU

Perhaps one gets hurt, or leaves early for the NFL? Then there is the fact that Polk gets 4 years starting next year and Speedy and DS will only have 3 years left, meaning that the stage is set for Polk to be THE man in his SR season. Like I said though, if Scott leaves after his Junior year for pro ball then Polk gets 2 years as a starter/co-starter.

It depends on whether he relishes the competition and the opportunity to win the position. RB is not like the QB position. He'll get carries next year, and if he gets hot in a game, he'll get more carries.

Look at today. The game plan probably wasn't to run Speedy so much. But he was hot, so he kept going in. Against Texass, DS will start strong, and end up with 200 yards with Speedy not touching the ball much. That's how the RB position works.

Hawk said in his post game interview with "foxy" Erin Andrews, that D Scott was a little banged up... (knee?) Also must add, Erin Andrews in all black.

Hope AZbuff isn't right, because this would be one SCARY running back crew if it holds together! Hopefully D Scott doesn't get any cold feet with Speedy getting so much rep.

You have to trust that the coaches are putting the best players on the field no matter what. If that's the case and he gets pissed and transfers or pouts about it do you really want someone like that on your team? If you're the man, step up and prove it in practice. Show the coaches you got what it takes and you will see the field.

Geez az, I mean we had a great win and you want to talk about a possibility of a redshirt freshman transferring and being scared that Scott wavering about not being the primary ball carrier?

First, I would hesitate to call this a "great" win. A win that I will certainly take, but there is an ENORMOUS amount of work to be done. Thanks to Bill Stewart for handing us the game in the second half.
Second, I am merely speculating. Do I hope that Polk leaves? Certainly not, but I do think the topic merits discussion. If you hate the topic so much, here is a simple answer for you: don't respond to it.

If Polk decides to leave, then so be it. I'd wish him the best of luck. However, I don't see him leaving. He sees how the team spreads the ball around and gives it to the back that is hot. I'm sure he has the NFL in mind as well as our other RBs, and well the last thing you really want is to carry the ball so much you are bound to get hurt. He'll have his time to show he's the best RB on the team, it'll just be another yet. Hopefully he just uses it to his advantage to get stronger, bigger, faster and more familiar with the system. If he is as good as we all think he'll be, he won't be experiencing a lot of the same troubles our frosh RBs are experiencing AND he'll have 4 years of eligibility to his at his advantage.

Stop starting bull**** rumours and speculation. If Polk was scared of competition, he never would have signed with CU knowing Scott was likely coming here.

And Polk will not just be the man his senior year, but Junior and Senior year, as Scott likey goes pro after his junior year.

Look at what's happening in the NFL - lots of running back by committee stuff. Very few running backs are going to get more than 20 carries a game in the NFL. The college game is going to be like that very soon, too. I see plenty of carries in Polk's future. I see plenty of carries in Scott and Stewarts futures too.

hmmm.....

I think Polk has the cajones to hang and compete. He might end up better than both of these guys, AND I think this program is going to continually build depth, so if we don't pick up another RB this year we will in one of the next few classes. There is always going to be competition at good programs. I think he stays and pushes the group forward.

There are a couple ways to interpret 'great game'. One would be the execution/number of errors. We had some problems for sure, but we were LIGHT YEARS beyond Eastern Washington so we have made some good progress. Another way to look at this is in terms of did we win/lose. We won against a ranked team with good talent no matter what the other staff did or who played well or who was injured. Its all a part of the game. We won vs. a ranked opponent. Thats a great win!

Honestly having watched lastnights game and with the camp reports of Polk's speed I would be surprised to see him be a huge hit next year, like speedy but a bit bigger.

As for scott you being irrational the guy is dinged up and averaging 3.5 yards a carry, if he is a true competitor thats just making him want it more.

Flatirons - it was a QUESTION, not a RUMOR. Calm the eff down.

A pretty big win for the program and all you're thinking about is a big-time RB recruit possibly transferring after the season. Great thread.

Polk is gonna be the man. He gets to learn the O this year. Next year look for very big things from him.

Everything we know about Polk indicates that he is a very hard working young man who is not afraid of competition.

Required reading for you is anything that he said during this summer. Off to the Buff Zone, you scalywag!
