CU has rejoined the Big 12 and broken college football - talking out asses continues

Long time lurker, thought I’d pop in to say I’m disappointed this thread was stuck on page 465 for multiple days. Waiting for a new page has been a grind, I thought we’d get there on Saturday but my hopes were dashed by a weaker than expected posting environment. The regular posters were busy laying off their couches, trying to float in streams, or perhaps had spent all their time commenting on other boards focused on Big cheese wheels and fried food specialties as well as NASCAR. I was under the impression Sat at midnight would be the latest I’d have to wait, but seems I got some bad info from someone who was trying to be relevant but didn’t know anything. I almost stopped reading this site and got a little into a site documenting truck stops in irrelevant places, but fortunately it all came together and we made it happen. Or maybe not, I’m still learning how this works. I’ll give it a few days, then maybe I’ll go back and look at that big cheese wheel stuff.

In the future, memories of the Buffs getting stomped in 40% empty PAC 12 stadiums in the Pacific Time Zone will be fuzzy. It will be OK to move on.

I'm bored this morning and doing my best to help get this to page 466.

EDIT: My job here is done.

30,000 seat stadiums are easy to fill when you have no other choices on Saturday. Who knew.

If the new Yellowstone drops on gameday they probably dont fill up.
And sometimes, not so easy to fill, even when you are winning.

Ill mail you an old Penthouse so you have some new copeium material. What you suggest is not going to happen.

Would you stop. It’s mostly Stanford and Cal that don’t get support and maybe UCLA. The rest of the conference has fanbases that support their programs. CU fans showed up and rushed the field for a 1 win team last year. You ever seen a ****ing KU football game?

The first picture is a little out of context. The previous chart showed KUs attendance rose 95.6% last year. Being so bad for so long of course had an effect. I think without being on tv on any commonly viewed venues the PAC fan interest is at a low and the poorly attended games is an effect.

The top picture is the rule and last year was the exception for KU football.

90% of college football programs have fanbases that are mostly bandwagon. There are only a handful, even in the B1G and SEC, that will consistently show up during prolonged stretches of futility

The pro leagues didn't put teams in LV based on the TV market share. LV folks sweetened the pot, to get what they wanted - building the image of LV as more family oriented, main-stream - not an alcohol/drug and gambling only place.
If they saw they could get UNLV a national profile, it would add to that image.

LV wants good publicity and will pay a lot for it.

You, alas, are a shallow thinker.
My dream job would to be the Andy Garcia character in Oceans 11/12, etc livino in a penthouse at the top of a casino (but not having having said casino heisted and my woman taken from me)

Theres a lot of factors in that.
It illustrates that putting a crappy product on the field with no hope of improvement (Dorell, others) will hurt attendance
YoY good product has great attendance (Oregon)
Big Stadiums are had to fill.
The landscape of attendance is changing and so might interest in football over all past Gen X generation

The two biggest and best attendance B12 stadiums are leaving for the SEC. Their avg stadium size looks smaller then P12 post departure.

What I got out of this is that even though we’ve been ****ty forever now, we still fill our stadium better than most in our league. Also, it seems like the Big XII likes football more than the Pac 12

There are many things wrong w/ the B12 fascination but one that sticks out for me is no one, and especially the networks, cares about their fb programs other than the B12 fans.

It will be an afterthought once UT and OU leave. For all the crap the P12 takes it has more hype this year than the future B12 will ever have and not just bc of USC.

Hyping up “linear” exposure on ESPNU and FS1 isn’t going to change the fact no one gives a s*** about their teams.

Corn knows no borders.
We grow a lot in Colorado
Most = Iowa, Illinois

Best = Pennsylvania

Mehbraska can’t even be most OR best.

Yep, I don’t have the numbers in front of me but pretty sure most of the top 10 rated Big 12 games over the last couple years have included one of UT and OU. Oklahoma State is the only other program that can consistently pull slightly above average ratings and they are almost always relegated to FS1. The rest of the that conference is below the top 5-6 Pac 10 programs in ratings.

I also agree that this “70% linear requirement” in their contract is simply going to mean ESPN2, FS1, etc. However, the only caveat to that is that I believe CU would be the lone exception and as long as Prime is here, CU would likely be on FOX, ABC, or ESPN more often than not. If the Pac media deal is 100% streaming (which doesn’t seem to be the case), the exposure will suffer.

I’ll also note that picture of and empty KU stadium is a game against OU.

And one in those two conferences with a fake sellout streak.

Exactly, and I’ll add exposure is meaningless without interest. Ok they’ll get on ESPN2… no one will talk about it. Pending some miracle undefeated season like TCU last year they will not be talked about no matter what their linear exposure looks like because their brands are not interesting.

Yeah, with Prime we would be the exception. A national brand. Which is why they’re obsessed with CU. We have the ability to extend interest to their conference beyond their echo chamber.

It will be interesting to see if the sunshine pumping for the BIG goes away on ESPN now that they're off that network. Every year we get to hear about what a grind it is (especially in basketball) just to watch them underperform in post season. That league is mediocre to dog**** in basketball, and outside of OSU, Michigan, and PSU mid in football. I suppose Wisconsin is OK sometimes, but they play in the west. That division is worse than the old Big XII north at its lowest.

Doesn’t really matter since all Big 12 programs really care and support their football programs, right? Right?
Kinda. Because Kansas was pretty good last year and had pretty good attendance. But Why are you using the historically worst team in the conference (and maybe all of P5 football) to make that point.

Come on. The picture you showed was taken in the 4th Qtr with 4 minutes left and KU down by 31 points. I have seen Folsom empty under similar circumstances.
