Thoughts on the game

I was really dissapointed, I really thought we would win this. I think Cody has a lot to do with the loss, but our O-line also didn't allow him much time, however we did open a lot of holes for Speedy who had his second straight 100 yard game.
Cody continues to overthrow key plays. That was an easy TD to Devenney that Cody screwed up in the 2nd qtr. We score there and I don't think FSU scores and we go into halftime ahead and it's a completely different game.
I am worried about our O-line. I hope Miller comes back soon. This is turning into a season full of injuries and inelligibility to key players. It's tough, but part of the game.
I still think we can win 7 or 8 games this year, but it will be a roller coaster year with this youth.
I do have a bad feeling about Texas though.
GO BUFFS!!

Hey. At least Pellini gets fired up, even though he just cost his team the game doing so.

Cody is a sophomore? :sad2: So, 2 1/2 years to go? :huh::sad2:

I am having my doubts with Cody now too. I don't like his inconsistensy this year. Actually, he has been consistent, at overthrowing his guys.

He is not the QB to take us to the next level, get used to frustrations and joys as long as he is the leader.

haha, we just got back from Loveland and we get out at chik fil a for dinner. We get out and there is a van full of fusker fans. They point to their shirts at my wife cause she was getting out on that side. She points to her shirt and tells me about it. I look into the van and point to my shirt while laughing and word out to them, "SCOREBOARD!". They had a straight face after that.
I was thinking, why aren't you ****ers at home watching your team get their asses kicked?

Seriously though, Loveland is infested with fusker fans it's rediculous.

Just got back from Estes Park. There are now TWO fusker shops. Big Red and Husker Haven. :puke:

You gotta be kidding :pissed3:

Grab the gas can and matches :smile2:

I agree with you Rippin, the 2nd quarter is where the Buffs lost their chance in this game.. If they had been able to connect on the Devenny wide open pass for a TD and converted at least a FG after the Cunningham INT, I really think it would have put big time pressure on that FSU offense..

Miller will be out until probably November.. We are going to have to really hold out hope there's no more OL injuries..

crap, we looked so good at our depth on the O-line in spring ball, and once again we are paper thin.:sad2:

I agree, we get up by 10 or 14, which I think was quite possible in the first half, and then we have a good chance to win this game. We put it on Ponder to win this game for Florida State and there is no way that he does. Anyway, I still see 4 more wins at least on our schedule. If we can run the ball against FSU, we can run against most of the teams in the Big XII, and that gives us a chance in any game.

My 2 cents: It's a good thing we have increased depth on the offensive line, otherwise we would be totally boned right now. With MTM out, Iltis out, Adkins suspended, and miller out for 6 weeks, we would be in big trouble without the extra depth we've added. It's gonna be a rough time for the o line this next few weeks I think.

Defense was pretty good overall. When you look at the points they scored, 19 of them came in situations where it wasn't really their fault. 7 off the short field due to the early fumble, 7 off of the return, 2 for the safety, and three for the field goal off of good field position.

Even though the defense didn't win this game, they definitely didn't lose it. That honor goes to special teams I think. There hasn't been a lot of talk about this (most are too busy hating on Cody) but the way I see it, the safety was given up by the punt team and our kickoff coverage unit gave up some huge returns (one of which went for a TD). I'm no expert but I think that made a HUGE difference.

My thoughts:

1. Cody missed 3 wide open WRs down the field today. 2 of them (Moyd and Devenney) would have been sure TDs. The 3rd (Smith) would have been a big play. He looked like he was afraid to set his feet back there. FSU's DL was good, but they weren't that good.

2. The refs. Holy hell, CU got the short end of most of the calls (and several that should have been - I saw two blatant personal fouls/PI calls that never were called - one on the screen that Stewart dropped and the other was when Crawford caught a pass for first down. McKnight got obliterated while the ball was in the air). On FSU's long TD run, Sipili got held on the outside without call.

3. Goodman has to hit short kicks. If he needs to compensate for his hook, then he needs to figure that out.

4. Special teams was atrocious in all aspects. Punt protection, kick coverage, returns, you name it.

This FSU team is nothing special. Good D, ****ty O. I would feel much better if the Buffs got smoked than to lose like that. What a frustraing game.

first of all, i hate to say i told you so, leash, but the difference in this game was athletes. CU was unable to deal with the speed of the fsu defense. our ol got worked. cody was under pressure, real and imagined, all day. he overthrew those guys because his timing was way the hell off because he had a bad case of happy feet. it happens. it happens particularly when you are 5 feet 9 inches tall and not particularly strong or fast and an entire defense full of guys the size of giants who run like deer are coming to kill you.

cody had a bad game. but he didn't get any help from the ol or his receivers. we don't have anywhere near enough speed at wideout.

the lone bright spot on offense, i thought, was the play of the rbs.

oh, and i liked our offensive playcalling too. had we had the bodies to execute, it would have been a genius gameplan.

on to the texas game! i think CU can win it!

GO BUFFS!

I still disagree about FSU winning because of their athletes. Just like WV, FSU could not stop Speedy. We needed to keep running the damn ball. That play where we tried to get cute and throw to Scott where FSU intercepted us, we were running on them. Also like I said, we would have been in good hands had Cody connected with Devenney in the 2nd qtr.
Athletes didn't win it for FSU, youth and poor play by Cody killed us.

Agree. fsu does NOT have better athletes! That is bull**** to even say! We should have punked them. IMO, we expected to lose this game. So we did.

Yeah, it almost seemed the team was psyched out for this game. They'll play at least 3 teams who are better than FSU this year (UT, KU, MU), if not more. And OU last year was definitely better. But they just didn't have it today.

you and lips are smoking something.

fsu is poorly coached, but they have waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more speed, depth, and size than our Buffs. if you switched staffs, hawkins would win a nc with that fsu team. bowden and friends would be lucky to go .500 with CU's team.

we will get there. it is easy to look bad when you've got no wideouts on the field who can get separation except smith and your ol is letting godzilla into the backfield on almost every play. the running game worked because we used their speed against them, but when you get in a position where down, distance, and the score make you one-dimensional, then the athletes will win almost every time.

you can't make mistakes against a team like that. cody didn't have a good day and we simply aren't good enough to win a road game like this one without a great performance across the board.

it is ok. i think texas is very beatable. the fsu defense is much faster.

That is one reason I thought we would win. I thought we had our swagger back and were going down expecting to win. Looks like we still don't have the swagger to go into hostile territory and push people around.

I didn't say we had better athletes than FSU, I said we didn't lose because FSU had better athletes. We shot ourselves in the foot and didn't excecute. We had the chances, it was more us than FSU being good.

FSU has more athletes than we do, but we beat ourselves in many ways today. The struggles on the road continue to be an issue with the team. This team can win every game (save Mizzou) on the schedule and it can also lose every game left on the schedule. I still think we're a 7-8 win team, but the offense has got to start sustaining some drives consistently to keep the defense off the field.

r.

:yeahthat:

If CU had some of those players that FSU has on defense, we would be fighting for a Big 12 title. Their DL is filled with guys who have speed and can rush the QB.. We really have no one on our line that can get to the QB..

I don't think their secondary was anything to right home about but they have much more speed and athleticism than ours does...

I think FSU is really coached well. They have some really great minds imo. They are just paying for Bowdens failure when he let his kid run the show. We all know Bowden doesnt really do anything now.

Wow he actually has more TD passes than int's... But not sure how many fumbles. Probably around 5 or so...Thus that makes him barely even..... Still not good. You should have a 3:1 TD to INT ratio to really be successful. He needs to get there somehow and learn how to step up in the pocket and not get ball knocked from behind. I realize he's a soph, but he is terrible at passes over 30yds. He has way too many that dont even touch the hands of receivers......

thank you for sharing.

while you may have a point in what you are saying, prefacing your point by a personal attack is intolerable. i tapped you with a reported post, and i thank you for the opportunity.

it would be keen if you would pull your head out into the fresh air and talk your point of view without attacking a kid.

EDIT: thank you moderators.
