Long-term plan for CU facilities upgrades

There are, but the non-overlap isn't pertinent to the discussion.

Where they do overlap is the question, as in, "will the success of one detract support from the other?"

I don't think it would, and in fact I think it goes the other way, where success of one actually reinforces support for the other (again, within the overlap).

Agreed. Early arrival is the best and that worked back in 1990 too.

Again, I'm waiting on the CU AD to talk about what they are going to do during the next 100 years at Folsom Field.
 
Whenever they do start on the west side expansion it will take much longer than the Champions Center. The A/E industry is still dealing with major supply chain issues.. 52 week lead times for chillers, generators and air handlers etc. even steel and concrete quantities and lead times are still twice what it was pre covid.

We're in agreement on the broader point.
 
1. Adding a second layer to the south stands would ruin the best view in sports. Don’t.
2. Enclose the NW side and allow for a sponsored beer garden and party deck
3. Tear down Balch. Seating can be pushed further west here and add luxury boxes. Inside can have huge concessions and apparel store.
4. Make the new Balch facade and roof architecturally significant, like an design homage to the flatirons. Something unique in all of sports. Don’t do what the broncos did and sterilize it.
5. KEEP the piss troughs AT ALL COSTS.
 
1. Enclose NW. 2nd deck instead of another party deck - this becomes visitor section.
2. Larger scoreboard in S end zone but do not increase steadying (bigger scoreboard is going to block too much Flatirons as it is).
3. Eliminate entire W side and reconstruct to pretty much mirror the E side. 204 thru NW corner with 2nd level as large as 214-220. Suites & press box above.
4. Balch space should become an on-campus sports bar & other amenities.
5. Total capacity increased to at least 65k, with over 70k ideal. Student + young alum combined section of maybe 25k-30k (could include entire 2nd level of S end zone).

Nobody on the West side can see it anyway, and adding an extra 10-15 rows on the south side won’t dramatically impact anybody’s view. AND WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING STARING AT THE MOUNTAINS WHEN THERES A FOOTBALL GAME TAKING PLACE?

It’s **** like this that pisses me off. People more worried about their ****ing view of the ****ing Flatirons. Dammit people.

If it is going to be a total rebuild of the west side, I believe there needs to be three tiers of seating and three different concourse levels with bathrooms with updated troughs for the men's bathroom. Given the crush of Nub & CU fans in some hallways, it's high time something is done.

Phase 1 would be the NW corner to the north end of the suite box building.
Phase 2 would be the west side running to the student section.
Phase 3 would be a rebuild of the south side.

Given that we still averaged over 40K fans during the worst stretch of CU football, not expanding capacity isn't an option and going to 60K-65K seats is pretty much assured.
 
I would also add that developing the South campus with a baseball & softball complex would be great for solving some Folsom issues. Make it an ancillary football parking & tailgate lot with shuttles to & from Folsom. Mitigates traffic into & out of Boulder by redirecting a good percentage onto the Table Mesa exit while accommodating an additional 15-20k fans with stadium expansion.

Additional parking options will need to be considered as well. I’m thinking less South Campus and more East Campus. There’s still a lot of room out there and they could shut down the entirety of Colorado Avenue about three hours before kickoff to accommodate the shuttles. Colorado Avenue happens to be my road of choice for ingress and egress to and from campus on game day, so that would kind of suck for me. As long as it’s opened up an hour after the game is over, I’d be fine.

It's walkable, too. Colorado Ave could become a very cool street as your idea would lead to many of those apartment buildings being redone as shops & restaurants on street level with housing above & behind.

Light rail in Boulder with a campus line that runs to the stadium.

Each 4 car train can deliver over 600 fans. Remove the advantage of parking close by and a lot of congestion goes away. There will still be enough parking demand that the school won't lose significant revenue

I will say this- going to the Broncos game yesterday, the scoreboard overhaul made a MUCH bigger difference than I thought it would. It made the whole stadium feel new to me.

I too have a similar dream - although it would involve commuter rail and busses as well as bikes - for a majority to of the fans to get to the game without having to drive.

Fortunately I am able to ride my bike, which I love to do and lock it up within 30 feet of a ticket gate. I realize that this won't work for people that live more than 5 to 10 miles from Folsom. And that's where better public transportation comes into play.

As congested as Boulder has become this makes sense even if you are not talking about a football game.

Boulder is a great place, consistently rated as one of the top places people would like to live. Unfortunately the biggest negative other than the cost of housing is the congestion of all those people in a limited space.

Even for those who drive how much better would it be to be able to park in a lot 5-10 miles away without stress, without long waits and creeping through stop and go streets, without having to wedge into an already too full lot and instead jump on public transit and be at the gates in 10 minutes, far less than it would take them to make that final drive the parking lot on campus.

While this sounds great, Boulder will never allow the kind of population density that would be necessary to make in-city light rail viable.

Lol. No one rides trains. That’s the biggest public transportation boondoggle in Colorado history.
