The OL on play back was the worst performance I've seen in years from a P5 OL. They got treated like a bad G5 or decent FCS OL against a powerhouse P5 DL.
Generally, Oregon send 5 and dropped 6 into coverage. They didn't use a spy much this game. They used the LB to bull rush the guards like Bailey or the center, just depends on their playcall. They also constantly bull rushed the guards. The EDGE players played wide. The goal seemed to be to collapse the pocket and force Shedeur in the pocket like he's a mobile QB thats a threat with his legs.
Generally speaking, I don't advise this type of defense against a QB like Shedeur but it worked. Not only did the collapse the pocket but their EDGE guys was dominant against Tank using speed counter power and bend to get to Shedeur.
Generally, bull rushes don't really have that much effectiveness against interior linemen unless it's a mismatch and it was a mismatch Today. They dominated the guards and Wells and constantly collapse the pocket. While this is common watching Oregon v. Portland State or Hawaii, this shouldn't work against a Pac-12 OL. Even a bad one. You can't let the defense collapse your pocket unless they are bringing 6-7 guys in a blitz.
I was very disappointed in Wells but I can't help but think he's not all the way healthy yet. There was times the LB was driving him back. Bailey and Bebee just wasn't strong enough. Even with a collapse pocket, 2 really had nowhere to go. Even on the missed reads, there wasn't much but 2-3 yards there and he even hit on that he initial missed. It just wad bad route combinations for the type of defense Oregon played.
My suggestion is, Dylan needs to come out of the backfield and always go into the middle of the 5 yard out every time they do this collapse **** with wide edge rushers bringing just 5. Also, every route combo needs to have a 5 yard out quick play like Brady has in NE to negate the pass rush. I didn't see any outs for Sanders to throw to and when teams are playing man with a soft zone and you have dynamic weapons, it's easy to scheme players open even with crappy pass pro.
I honestly don't believe Lewis has an option for this as he's always had dual threat QBs who are great at RPOs like Crum and Schlee.
So running or passing is the option but with Shedeur, it's always going to be a run with the back or a pass with 2. We don't give many options. We just have to adjust. No one should get bullied like this as P5 OL but they did. Instead of being hard headed. Let's draw up some plays from the Brady era where every passing play as a option for the RB or slot WR who's always open based on the depth of coverage. What's on 2 is where's the hot and to always get the ball out fast.
When Hunter is back, he can get back to holding the ball waiting for the play to develop but without Travis, you don't have that guy. Get it out quickly but it can't be for a -1 or 2 yard pass. Everything has to be 4-6 yards. That's on Sean Lewis and Shedeur to execute it when Sean adds it.

This post might be better suited for the MSU/Midnight Mel specific thread-but there's gotta be more to the Dorrell hire. I think we've all heard some variant of the rumors about Tucker and recruiting assistants in 2019. We saw the tweets from people like Mark Johnson after the Tucker-Brenda Tracy story broke.
I expected this-but here's the positive. We're still on track for a bowl appearance. We should beat Arizona State and Stanford-and that gets us to 5-2 with 5 to play. We'll see what happens next week-I think USC has a better QB, but more warts overall. Add this to what might be the most lit Folsom has been in quite some time....and I think CU is in the game in the 4th quarter.

Anyone note that this thread is now over 1,100 post in a day, this for a game we got blown out in.
Last year near the end of the season I seem to remember some game threads that barely went 200-250 and had long time gaps when nobody posted.

Those of us who suffered through all the losing seasons know who we are. But awesome to welcome so many people to Buff Nation. No one would even have talked about us before coach prime. Now even after losing, our coach is still the talk of the sports world.
We need two offensive schemes. One with Travis and one without Travis.
The one without Travis should be laced with short plays, rubs, using Edwards like he's Dion Lewis for the Pats, Harrison or one of the TEs lining up with the lineman always going to soft zone spots, reverses, misdirection, and some trickery to keep the defense honest in their aggression.
With Travis, we can do the **** we did week 1 to week 2. We still need plays quick plays that easily get us 4-6 yards. Travis forces over the top coverage. Without him, it's hard for our guys to get open
I honestly don't want to see any more screens. This OL can't run in space. They are weak. They are slow. They are limited.
They might even be getting some post on NetBuffs. not going to bother to go check but wouldn't be surprised.
As someone who watched every Prime game at JSU but the DS or Edward Waters game. This reminded me of when Alabama State in the spring beat JSU and they had Prime picture on the scoreboard like a Jordan meme. The attention Prime gets makes teams mad. They want to beat him and stick it to him. But Prime is a relentless recruiter and he doesn't forget. Alabama A&M learned that the hard way.
When I saw his speech I thought exactly the same thing. Oregon built their brand on “flash.” Oh, and Nike money.

Being angry about a team receiving undue attention is very weird coming from OREGON
They better think of something. SC might be less talented then Oregon. If they are its probably not by much.
I think recruits connect with him on that energy. He seems to show a lot of fire. deion talks a little smack too
We can't beat USC. You have to win a shootout against them and without Travis, we don't have the firepower. Travis was critical to our offensive firepower. Just his presence forced double coverage and someone was always open or Shedeur can throw someone open. There are no passing lanes without Travis that are longer than 2 yards.
They are vulnerable. Their pass rush is still sus. Their OL is hit or miss. Their running game is too dependent on Williams. We have a chance against them but we would have to catch them off guard and we would need our horses to ball out.
Our offense is now a problem without Travis. I might have mistaken Travis value to the defense more than the offense. The defense wasn't that bad and wasn't far from when Travis there. The offense might as well have been a different team. Without Hunter, we are basically South Florida on offense but maybe not as good due to the OL but more productive due to Shedeur.
There were times 2 had 4 seconds within the pocket but no one was open. That wasn't the case in week 1 or 2 against Nebraska. We always had someone open if 2 had 4 seconds. Always.

It’s one thing for the staff to know what the issues are. A totally other thing to fix them. Especially when the issues are a lack of athleticism at several positions. You just cannot “scheme” your way out of it.
Prime set a course for this program. This loss did nothing to knock Prime off course. If anything, it will strengthen his resolve.
We suffered losses like this last season. In those, we all just rolled our eyes and accepted that it wasn’t going to improve. But after this one I remain confident that better days are ahead and that the wait won’t be long.
