Sorry, but it has to be said. WHERE IS SCOTT?

6 yds a carry in the first half with one that was pretty damned good.

Where is this guy?

What is going on?

Why?

Scott in the game is a big sign saying "WE'RE GONNA RUN". 8 guys collapse into the box when they see 2 in the backfield.

He does only have one play. Run from the shotgun behind one of the guards.

He should have been in more when we went to the I late in the 4th. In the end, Speedy is getting it done, so until Scott figures out how to pass block I don't think we will be seeing him too much.

to me, Scott looks like the type of back that needs a crease. he needs a hole to get going and then he can run through that. Speedy does not really need anything to go. He can scoot through anything, and make yards. Right now our O-line can not really make creases, so Speedy is the better choice. I think next year when we are hopefully healthy on the O-line we will see more Scott, and the Scott that we hope to see.

That being said, we had a running back go for somewhere around 140. Stop ****ing bitching.

Is Scott the guy that conistantly hits holes hard, makes people miss and has a couple 100 yard games? That guy looks damned, good, maybe the best RB on the team. Didn't he play tonight?

Oh... wait... that's right, that's Stewart!

Until Stewart falters or Scott shows he can do the job, he needs to stay on the bench. And the fans need to recognize that we have a perfectly capable back in Stewart.

Which animal gets through the mouse hole better

The mouse?

The dog?

The holes currently being made are built for a mouse. Lucky we have one that's very good

You can make that argument, but watching Scott run tonight, he reminded me a lot of an early Hugh Charles, no fire, no fight for the extra yards. And more than anything, he seems SLOW to the hole.

Do realize Stewart made something out of nothing on a lot of those plays. Scott's slow to the hole but those holes close up extremely fast. It's the perfect situation for speedy.

This is basically a lost season for Scott. Hindsight being what it is, maybe when he came into camp overweight someone could have thought it best to throw on a redshirt on the man to get his mind right. But of course he did show flashes of promise in camp and the team lacking talent that it does, couldn't hold out.......

I don't know... He's still almost 4 yards a carry coming into the night, always finishes falling forward. And he always is the RB running from the shotgun where you run blind around the guard and up the middle. Deserves to be on the field more.

I wrote the initial post at halftime when he had two runs. One was pretty spectacular, and the other was one of those runs where he has nowhere to go and gets stuffed. I give Stewart his due. He's a total bad ass. I just see some of Scott's runs and think, if only...

you know?

I think that since speedy has shown he is our almost every down back, that Scott should get some reps as a slot WR. Putting him, JFLY and Scotty in a formation that just sends Scott underneath for 5 yards would be tough to defend.

The starting tailback position is Stewart's to lose.

Speedy = excitement. His first TD tonight was a milestone.

Scott = Sumler minus the pass blocking, but with a boat load of fan expectation on his shoulders. I don't see 100 rushing yards from Scott this season. But his time will come in time.

I agree. But you have to admit that is frustrating when you see a run like his 10 yder tonight or when he makes 5 yds out of NO yds.

The thing is, I think, is that he needs a seam to work with. Once our oline can give him that, he's money.

As of now, I officially announce that I'll wait until next year. Please punch me in the ear when I wonder what is going on with him this fall. Thanks.

I agree that he looks slow to the hole. I don't know if that's because he's still dinged up or what.

The thing that is "sorry, but has to be said" is this: from a non-biased perspective, Scott may have made a mistake by coming here, if this is going to be our offense for the next 4 years. DS is NOT a running back for the spread. I don't know if he could become one with more work, but he definitely isn't one now. He doesn't look comfortable in that formation at all. He is more of a power formation back.

Which is why I was confused when he didnt play in the 4th qtr when we were using the I trying to run out the clock. Stewart was pretty winded at that point and even though he did fairly well, I think the I totally fits DS more than RS.

Coaching staff needs to figure out a way to get him on the field.

As has been said, when he comes on the field, it waves a giant red flag that he is going to get a carry.

He isn't being put into a situation where there is even a possibility of him being successful.

People say we have a good back in Rodney Stewart, we clearly do... but the offense isn't exactly lighting it up right now. I believe DS could provide a homerun threat - if completely healthy - and really get the offensive going.

But it's not fair to call him a bust when you observe the way he is being used. He isn't being put into a situation to do well.

Here's an idea, when scott gets the ball, tell the OL not to always let a guy come untouched through the line to bury him in the backfield:rolleyes:

Try getting it to him on a pitch out instead of him running to the right , ol misses block, 2 yd loss.

How about a screen pass? Did that play leave also?

Everytime scott gets the ball, amazingly someone comes untouched through the line:huh:

How about this? How about letting DS block? The point is, if they only let him on the field when he is going to get the rock, the D keys on him and there is no way he can be successful. By giving him the ball EVERYTIME he goes on the field, they are setting him up for failure.

And yes, I did see him block once last night, but 95% of the time he gets the ball and gets smothered. They need to get him in, and then do quick passes to keep the D off him.

I don't know. But I'm pretty disappointed in the lack of chances he's receiving. I know Speedy is the hot hand. But there are plenty of touches to go around.

^^ Agreed.

It appears we are going to be breaking in a new QB. Would take a lot of pressure off of him if BOTH DS and RS got a lot of touches.

I would anticipate to see more touches for DS, gradually, as the year wears on. This kid is way too talented not to get a legitimate chance.

That was my thoughts on DS awhile back. But I'm not so sure anymore. I'm not questioning his toughness or character. This kid is a great player. He should've saw more touches vs. KSU's ****ty D. This could've been a big confidence builder for him. But again, he isn't getting the touches that I think he should be getting.

I agree, and you won't get a answer from hawk. Anytime ringo or anyone asks about scott, he gives his smug one word answer and moves on.

I doubt he'll start getting more carries either, which is why i'd call the use of him this season has been a wasted year.

I think he has the same issues as Cody; he needs a good blocking line to be effective. Obviously way more skills than Cody, but he needs a hole, and is not getting one for him yet. Speedy is so fast that he does not really need much of a hole, but the blockers are not out on secondary guys, so he does not typically get into the secondary after they are being blocked, which is why so many of his runs are stopped in the second level, LBs and such (still not a bad problem to have). Hansen and Speedy have the skillset to aleviate some of the OL issues, Cody and Scott need a good blocking OL to be effective. I think as the line gels and the young kids get more experience, you will see Scotts usage go up and him be more effective. i think TAM and ISU will see Scott used much more and good yards from him. next year with the big uglies having all the hurt starters back, plus backups with great playing experience----man, watch out. Hansen, Cody, Scott, Speedy, Simas, Smith, Geer, etc----this team will be older, more experienced, and way fun to watch!

I think he was promised that he would get a shot to play and not be redshirted, which is a reason he picked CU. Then, the line went to hell in a handbasket with academic casualties, and many major injuries, and all of a sudden we had new guys playing every down, while we thought we would get them some spot duty to learn. If they had any idea that the line wold be so devastated this year, they never would have played him IMO. And would not have moved Kai to the FB position. (you have not brought that up recently?:smile2:)
