2023-24 Coaching Carousel (Fitzgerald out, DC Braun interim at Northwestern)

UCLA has to be one of the worst P4, brand name school, football coaching jobs in the country. The only reason they are in the Big10 is because they are in LA. UCLA doesn't give two sniffs about football and they are licking their chops at getting more B10 money to prop up the UCLA Olympic sports.

They are screwed. What a mess. The players must be shocked. I think UCLA is so cash and resources strapped that they are going to find tough going hiring a new coach and bringing in quality AC's. UCLA will be in complete rebuild mode now with the portal opening and a new coach(es). Except for Ken Norton Jr., they are a young staff, and nobody else really sticks out as a successor. D'anthony Lynn would be a great immediate get to maybe stabilize things, he might jump back if he feels that USC/Riley's commitment is unstable; but this I find doubtful.

I could be wrong, but I do not see Herman, Campbell, Wilcox or Fleck leaving their gigs without a serious commitment, financial, NIL and otherwise. Without an alum carrying a huge $$$$$$ (aka. Phil Knight), I do not think UCLA can pull off a big hire in an immediate time frame. Shaw is interesting but has never pulled off a rebuild. I do not think EB would want the job. Agree with Duff Man, Odom is probably the 1st call. He has a little momentum and could bring some AC's with him.

Ironically, I foresee UCLA hiring a KD type place-holder coach for a few years until their financial situation improves. Who knows maybe they lure Slick Rick out of the announcers box for a 2nd go? They could be going the Stanford route into the Big Sky.

The real benefactor of this could be USC, if they can add some players given that they were hit hard by the portal. I say USC because they recruit a bunch of the same players, so the evals would be done. Just a move across town.

If they really are cash strapped, I have to think they just promote Ken Norton Jr and say we'll figure it out again in like 2 years. Shades of us hiring Cardboard Karl.

At the risk of derailing this thread, I bring to you...out of nowhere for the past 10 years....the new WR coach for the Akron Zips, the former HC of the Akron Zips and one time/one year assistant coach of the CU Buffs....Mr. J.D. Brookhart.
