Hansen needs to be the guy.

He needs more reps. He needs more practice time. He needs to get comfortable with his receivers and the offense.

I may be truly insane, but I remain confident that CU will win 2-3 of it's remaining games and go to a bowl. I blame the Missouri loss squarely on the coaches, and in particular, the defensive gameplan. But shuttling Cody and Hansen in and out isn't doing the team any favors right now. I'm not sure there's much that Cody can do that can't be done by Hansen, so we may as well just cement him in the starters job for the rest of the year.

He also needs an OC that will call something other than a QB draw on 3rd down.

The one thing Cody has over Hansen, is the playbook. Cody has a lot more plays available to him because he knows the playbook better. With that being said, I agree that Hansen should get all the snaps. He will only learn more and get more comfortable with repetition. Besides we all know Hansen is more athletic and has a better arm than Cody. There would be nothing to loose by putting him in full time. Besides we burned his RS we might as well put it to good use.

Agreed on just about all parts...i still think we have 2-3 more wins in us, and I saw a little bit of progress in Hansen that was good...again, more reps, more time with the playbook and he will be good...The playbook being the most crucial piece as we can only call plays that he knows and it's obvious he doesn't know a lot, thus why we're seeing Cody finish off drives or play at all.

I think the OC (and HC) will call something besides that when they have more confidence that a different play will yield better results. I'm as frustrated with the lack of success on offense as anyone but I have yet to see the execution on the field to justify blaming the play calling.

Hansen definately needs to be the guy this week for the simple fact that A&M has a worse rushing defense than K-State

All I know is that Hansen can throw it, and that QB draw on 3rd and 19 made me want to hit a small child.

Oh come on now. I see more offensive variety watching 7-8 year old Pee Wee football. Part of a successful offense, especially when you don't have to horses to do what you want at-will, is to call a play that the defense is not expecting. We haven't seen that since the first scoring drive of the WVU game.

I hate the play calling this year, but running a qb draw on 3rd and 19 is actually a good idea when your line can't block. Tyler Hansen isn't any good to us if we get him killed before he gets good. We need to find a way to keep out of third and 19 in the first place; with our line a 3rd and 19 is not makeable, period, and ruining Hansen's confidence (or cody's, for the that matter) for nothing seems like a mistake.

Hansen was PISSED after that playcall. Let him be a QB.

He looks like a toothpick out there! Put Matt in atleast we'll have someone behind our O Line who can see over them and down the field. If Hawk want's a QB that is going to be able to run he might as well just stick Rodney back there and let him take off with it every down. Cody's always running for his life anyways we might as well just line up a RB at the QB position;

:yeahthat:

I'm not sure what has happened in the last 2 games to lead the coaching staff to continue to believe Hansen can't be trusted to play like an actual QB...

We need to stick with Hansen for - at minimum - the majority of the snaps for the remainder of the year and re-evaluate the situation in the offseason and put the best player on the field out of our 3 qb's + 2 guys we have coming in that both appear to have some talent.

Hansen looks promising. Against Mizzou during that drive during the second half when we he got the ball into their territory and was immediately pulled then we failed to score any points - head scratcher to say the least?

What I like about the situation is that if Hansen doesnt pan out we still have our QB recruits coming in that are supposed to be just as good. EVANS and Wynn look like they will be great quarterbacks in the future. Cody is overmatched by all these guys so why have him take snaps. Cody great team player and will be better on the sidelines help coaching maybe a player coach type deal.

this....

i will add my 2 cents here.

if hansen is going to be the future, lets do it. what i mean by that is....

if its 3rd and 19, let the kid toss it down field. it seems to me that a draw play, this season, in the situation the Buffs are in, on that play, is playing not to lose. not playing to win.

now dont get me wrong. im not saying the Buffs were going to win this game with some different play calling or a different play call in that situation. what i am getting at is that you have a team with 50 plus freshmen (or RSFrosh) on the roster. you are stupid ugly young on the O side of the ball. let the kids play.

give them the oppertunity to fail or succeed. let them have the options. let them learn from thier mistakes. it may cost a bowl game this year. it may not. no matter what, a bowl game is not a given this year no matter the approach. i think we all can recognize that fact.

i understand that you cant toss the playbook at TH and expect him to run it all. thats dumb. however, what i think one should do, given the situation the Buffs are in this season is basically play a form of "street ball." dont play conservative. so what if its 3rd and 23? toss it down field. let TH learn. give him the freedom to make mistakes. if it costs CU a ball game, thats the way it is. if it costs the Buffs a bowl game? ouch! i dont know....

is that experience better than another 20 some practices? i dunno.

i just think that im kind of at the point, for this season, given the youth of the team, the acadamic/injury hits they have taken, and a new frosh QB, one should kind of throw caution to the wind and give the kids an oppertunity to see what they can do. if it fails miserably, they learn. that bodes well for the future. if it works, it opens up new oppertunities.

now, dont be a smart ass and claim that im saying the Buffs sould come out and run a reverse, followed by a half back pass, followed by a triple lindy or something stupid.

what im saying is that 3rd and umteen the poster i quoted was talking about should not have been a draw. the coaches should have allowed TH a chance to grow. a draw is a cop out in that situation. you have to give the kids an oppertunity to succeed of fail. they will learn and get better from both experiences. the draw does nothing on either front other than to say "we give up".

just some thoughts. where am i wrong?

No team worth a damn is going to give up a 3rd and 19. Whatever call they make there would be doomed to failure. While I don't see the harm in letting the kid try, it might be better, field position wise, to get 5-10 yards and punt the ball.

Maybe we can only pick up 5-10 yards on a 3rd and 19. But why not let Hansen pick up what yards he can by putting it in the air instead of running yet another QB draw? I think he's getting that play down pretty well. Let him throw the ball too. We're going to need him comfortable running AND passing next year. Sometimes we may give up some field position. Sometimes we may pick up the same yardage. And maybe, just maybe, we might get a first down out of it every now and then...

I have been wondering that too. We need to get Hansen out on the edge more.

If I remember correctly, Hansen had a great deep throw when he was moving to his right, but the WR (?) dropped it along the sideline. I have seen nothing in Hansen's arm, to tell me that he shouldn't be allowed to wing it around. That said, A&M's weakness is run defense, so I say we give them a large dose of Stewart, Scott and Hansen toting the rock.

That would mean that four QB recruits for this coaching staff have not panned out (Cody, Ballenger, Nelson and Hansen). At that point you can't just keep looking to the next savior. You have to start wondering whether this staff is capable of developing a QB or if they are just poor at judging talent.

I'm not one of those people who blames the issues on the QB, nor am I one that believes the next QB will come riding in on a white buffalo to save the day. I expect the QB (whoever it is) to come along with the entire offense of the next year or two.
