Take some time this week and reflect

that's kinda how i feel. good people, maybe. all that folksy charm or whatever....but it's not my scene. horrible scenario, but if i had to choose one of the Texas schools it would be UT without even thinking about it. Maybe even Baylor over ATM.

after walking home from King Soopers on this beautiful morning in Boulder....I shudder to think.

I would take UT and Austin 100 times out of 100 over Collie Station and the Aggies.

Thankfully, I don't have to make that decision, though.

Besides Boulder and Austin where else in the Big 12 would anyone want to live and go to school? Ugh.

Lubbock, TX?
Waco, TX?
College Station, TX?
Norman, OK?
Stillwater, OK?
Manhattan, KS?
Lawrence, KS?
Ames, IA?
Columbia, MO?
Lincoln, NE?

JMHO, tho in a very very distant third... Lubbock. Only because its a 5-6 hour drive to Colorado's mountains and about 4 hour drive to the nearest ski resort in New Mexico.

I used to think that heaven was Lubbock in my rear view mirror...

Norman, OK isn't really all that bad. Some decent bars, and OKC is pretty close. Columbia, MO is decent, too. Not great, but not gawd awful, either.

Have you ever been to Lubbock? They don't call them sand aggies for nothing.

I'd take Norman long before I even considered Lubbock.

Lubbock is in a dry county. That alone is reason enough not to live there.

I lived there for a few semesters as a former Tech student. Don't ask why I went to school there.. but when it was over with the ex, I got the **** out of there and moved back to CO.

I think west Texas is a horrible, desolate place (sorry, DBT:lol:).

I would do Norman, Lawrence, and maybe Ames. Norman is not a bad town, Lawrence is a good college town, and I like Iowa folks.

Well said. I wouldn't heistate to choose UT over any other school in Texas. The College Station vibe is just not for me.

Yeah, I was going to mention Norman as another decent place to live. Haven't spent much time there, but it seems nice. Never been to Columbia, but have heard similar sentiments.

Iowa folks are OK, but Ames sucks. There aren't any good bars, no good golf courses. The closest "city" is Des Moines, which doesn't offer much, either. Ames would probably be second to last on my list, just ahead of Lincoln.

None of the above.

Ive visited or at least drove through every Big 12 city, not trying to be a homer but Boulder is the place to be, maybe second to Austin in the Big 12. I just dont think you can beat the Boulder hills in the fall. Gorgeous!

Tough question. Fort Collins beats them all.

Waco as a town is a mere truckstop between Austin and Dallas. But Baylor's campus is beautiful, with a classic Ivy League architecture. But the stadium is not on campus. And it is to Baptists what Notre Dame is to Catholics.

Lubbock is a windswept grease spot of a town with more churches than bars, but it is 4 hours from New Mexico snow and an hour from Palo Duro canyon. It's got the best access to an outdoor lifestyle. Plus Lubbuck has a reputation as the most promiscuous co-eds. And the airport is right in town with cheap SWA (and Frontier?) flights to get you out of there in a hurry. That's worth something.

Norman scores marks for football fans who want to see the home team win. And OKC's Bricktown has the best party scene on the list.

Stillwater, Manhattan, College Station, Lincoln and Lawrence are too remote, have a strange inbred vibe, or both. Definately bottom tier.

I can't comment yet on Ames or Columbia.

After Austin, I would put these all in a close third: Columbia, Lawrence and Norman. All are great towns with a pretty good vibe. Ames, Lincoln and Manhattan all suck.

If youre 70 years old and dont want your kids to visit you... then yeah ill second that statement! But as a football town..

I don't know, I lived in the Fort for about 5 years and really enjoyed it. Nice college town (not as nice as Boulder) but without the extreme liberals. Not as many Texas (sorry DBT I could do without most of em) or Californians either. As for a football town, they remind me of Cub fans. They know there team sucks, but they support their s***ty team with pride. Other than the Ewe fans that live there, I love Fort Collins.

Just not my cup o' tea i guess... but i think that damn ram that roams around there really kills it for me.

I'm not saying Ft. Fun is a great town. It's just a better town than 9 or 10 of the B12 schools. If your kids won't visit you in Ft Collins, they sure as he'll won't come to visit you in Stillwater or Manhattan. Those campuses are in the Styx. They make Lubbock and College Station and Lincoln seem like thriving metropolises by comparison.

At least the Fort has Colorado weather, good beer, and access to Colorado mountains.

All good points, although I'd still take 6th Street over Bricktown.

I think you are selling Lawrence way short. Campus is beautiful, party scene is great. Co-eds can counter just about anywhere. Kansas City is less than an hour away, larger city with boat casinos. Compared to the rest of the list, clear #3.

Based upon your avatar, you are doing just fine....

Meant for DBT's hair losing comment above....
