Because of the worst president thread, I thought I would do a worst buff coach thread. Ideas spawn new ideas.

Fairbanks isn't only the worst coach in CU history, he may be the worst coach - ever. How he got to be a head coach at any level boggles my mind. Arrogant, self riteous, grandstanding windbag.

c'mon. Stop holding back and let it out. Let us know how you really feel.:smile2:

My vote goes to Barnett...he definately isn't the worst on field football coach on the list, but for what he did to the University, it's name & it's reputation he hurt CU more than any other Coach could ever

It's 1 thing to lose football games, it's another to disgrace & humiliate an entire university

and Fairbanks didn't?

this one is easy. fairbanks was an arrogant d-bag prick who couldn't back anything up on the field.

the others on your list had some good moments. there were basically no good moments in the fairbanks era.

and, hawkins is way, way more well-liked in the university community than fairbanks, so even tho the jury is out on hawkins as the coach, he is a good representative of the school. unlike fairbanks.

i would say skippy fits into that roll better. the sanctions that he brought on the team for outright cheating are far worse. what ever barnett did, he only wanted to play football untill he got caught up in the mess. his intentions were never to cheat.

I think Fairbanks is an interesting choice.

Prior to coming to CU he coached OU to two Big 8 championships, two Orange Bowl victories, and a Sugar Bowl victory. Of course he cheated, but still...

Fairbanks hands down, I was a student during those dark, powder blue days. He was disinterested, arrogant, refused to recruit, only cared about the cash and his weekly pair of new shoes. Probably the worst hire in CU history.

What does what he did at OU have to do with how ****ty he was at CU? Question was worst Buff coach. I still think Sonny Grandelius should be on there over Hawk and GB

and you know the stories about who was the real genius behind those ou teams, right? you live down there so you should...

barry switzer.

my personal favorite story from the fairbanks era was the 84 point ass kicking they dealt on CU at folsom. at halftime, fairbanks sent an assistant coach over to switzer to ask him to lay off for old times sake. he asked barry to just run the fullback up the middle the rest of the way because the game was already so far out of hand. switzer, being the dirtbag he is, stuck his knife in the dirtbag fairbanks instead and kept running his offense.

ou coaches... all class, all the way around!

McCartney

That's right.

You all know the saying: "The higher you climb, the harder you fall.." After Bill left us at the top, we fell hard, real hard. Now, if we had played on through his years with mediocrity instead, we would have never experienced such a painful decline that we have endured to this day. His ****ing national title has drastically raised the measuring stick of this program's success to a level that we can't reach anymore, therefore failure has become a consistent basis. DAMN YOU, McCartney, for giving this program a taste of what of it is like to be nationally feared and respected. :smile2:

Maybe Barry was pissed because Chuck's wife wouldn't sleep with him.

You must be too young to remember Fairbanks. The man almost single handedly destroyed the entire CU athletic department. Once he had done as much damage as he thought he could get away with, he slinked away in the night to take a job in the USFL. CU STILL hasn't recovered, 27 years after he left. Barnett really did care about the University. He still does, from most accounts. Fairbanks didn't give a sh!t about CU. He didn't give a sh!t about the football program or the athletic department.

hit the nail on the head there...I've only read bout Fairbanks and didn't get to witness the terror he brought firsthand like I did with Barnett as a student in Boulder at the time....my bad sentiment of what happened with Barnett still resonates as I remember family members from all over the US calling me to give me **** and say CU is a crummy school etc. from what they read in the papers....really pissed me off more than anything that the Barnett scandal hit the University itself so hard and not just the football team

Look at it this way, at least there was a program for those people to make fun of. I'm not kidding about this, upChuck Fairbanks came >< this close to bankrupting the entire athletic department. The school actually considered eliminating the football program completely. Fairbanks is pure scum.

I voted for Hawk because I'm angry we lost last week and knew that Fairbanks would be way ahead..

Now that Hawkins has just received a contract extension, we have no choice but to "wait until next year". My attitude is give him one more year. :sad1:

Had to cast my vote for Ricky. He was given the keys to a highly powered and finely tuned squad, and managed to piss it away in three years. Remember all the delay penalties, the foolish use of timeouts, and throwing it deep on 3 and 1 a couple times a game? Boy I do not miss those days.

Yeah Mac had spoiled us, but that was really hard to watch.

I get pissed just hearing the name fairbanks ,and it pains me just to mention his name.

That nincompoop owns has his name on a frigging Chevy dealership in town. On a routine basis I pass a billboard or see a dealer decal on a vehicle that says Chuck Fairbanks Chevrolet, with the iconic bow tie logo inside a football helmet. This is further punishment for living in Dallas.

Anybody have any job leads on the western slope?
