I have a theory about this team

Alllow me to amend my previous theory: They blow, but they're resilient as all hell.

I'll take it!

The refs tried to **** us again, at the end of an ISU game, by not calling the delay of game, but it all worked out! GO BUFFS! Nice comeback!

Refs ran the clock after an isu offensive delay of game with about 6 minutes left too. That cost the Buffs about 30 seconds.

In retrospect, thank god for that mistake.

They call delay of game....ISU gets additional time to get organized and to come up with a better play. Also gives the defense time to start thinking instead of playing on instinct which could have been disasterous on a pick play or a play similar to the one ran that got ISU to the 1 yard line

Good win

nevermind, you're talking a different delay of game penalty.

I'm happy for a win believe me but we shouldn't need last second red zone stands against teams like iowa state. Anyway, a win is a win. Maybe it will provide a little confidence going into the OSU game.

Okay, but the refs couldn't see into the future. On the surface, a one yard play to win the game seems more likely than a six yard. If you'd asked ISU, before they played it out, they would have preferred for the delay to be ignored. They couldn't know it would have hurt them. Impressively, the refs complied.

I remember a game in 1996 where the #7 Buffs were very lucky to beat Iowa State in Boulder.

Good short summary.

That pass on 4th and 1 looked like it hit the ground to me, did anyone see a definitive angle on that one?

I wondered about that too, after seeing a couple of replays I wasn't sure that he caught it. I'm surprised they didn't review it, not just for the catch but to see if he got into the end zone.

If I were an ISU fan (heaven forbid...), I would be pissed as hell that the last play was not blown dead. It was clearly a delay of game, and ISU should have had another shot.....

But again, as a CU fan, I was mad that they didn't call the delay of game.

As I said earlier the call ended up hurting ISU, but it should have helped them.

ISU has no reason to be mad about that.

No comprendo.....

No comprendo.....

Okay...let's try again.

There's three seconds on the clock and the ball is on the one yard line.

ISU snaps AFTER the play clock winds down. A clear delay of game.

IF the refs make the correct call, ISU gets the ball on the six yard line. If they ignore the call, ISU executes the play from the one yard line.

IF you were ISU, which would you prefer? The one yard line of course.

IF you were CU which would you prefer? The six yard line.

So the bad call clearly favored ISU. Your post suggests that ISU should be angry. Why? The result is irrelevent, the call favored ISU.

The point is that the failed play ISU ran wouldn't have counted, and they would have gotten another chance, albeit from the 6.

If you're ISU which do you prefer: the game being over or getting one more shot from 5 yards back?

Delay of game is a dead ball foul. If the penalty had been called they wouldn't have had the chance to run the first play and see what was to become of it (they snapped the ball a good 2 seconds after the clock expired).

But you can't have it both ways.

You can't fail to call the delay of game--a call which favors ISU--and then, when that doesn't work, give them another chance by making a retro call.

That would be a stretch for even our friend Clete.

My point is that the way it was called favored ISU. Of course it didn't work out for them, but they can't be legitimately angry at a call that favored them. I'm sure they would like to have another chance, but it's laughable to imagine that they'd clamor to be charged for the missed delay of game, just so they could try again from the six.

My point exactly.....

I thought that if the delay of game penalty had been called the clock would run out. Isn't that how it works? If the offense is called for a penalty within two minutes, time is wound down, like 5 seconds or something?

I am in the process of researching it...

There is a 10 seconds runoff in the NFL. Don't think there is an equivalent in NCAA.

I got really lost in the rules book but I could not find anything regarding penalties at the end of a game. I'm sure it is there but my eyes started to cross after reading it for a while.
