The Silver Lining. Props to...

The offensive line once again. They did a nice job against a very athletic team, and picked up the blitz very well tonight.

There were 2 sacks. 1 of them came off the edge on a stunt, when the safety got the sack from Cody's blindside, and the other one IMO was a coverage sack as Cody had time, stepped up, then tried to scramble and couldn't escape.

I know it's kind of sad to try and pick out the silver lining, but I didn't want it to get lost.

I think there's a lot more silver lining than that. Really, IMO the only players who played poorly tonight were Behrens and Crawford, and even they had their moments where they contributed positively to the game.

Defensive secondary did an exceptional job without Walters (particularly Mahnke), offensive line played way above their means, Sumler was solid, Cody made the right reads all night... it was all good in my book. A win would have been nice, but if scoring were based purely on talent the pokes would have won this game by 30. As such, I'll take the 10 point spread for right now... we'll nab the W in 09.
 
I was very impressed and very happy to see how the Buffs played.

Just wish it could have been a win.

Hooray! OSU didn't destroy the Buffs in a Mizzou-style rout! Go Buffs! :rolleyes:

There were some early moments of the fourth quarter where it seemed a home game victory was possible.
 
I see correlations between this year's team and the 2000 Buffs, sans the injuries. Inconsistency on the o-line, a running game that isn't effective enough, mistakes by the wr's, questions about the staff's decisisions, and a tough defense that spends too much time on the field. That year, I always felt like the team was close but just couldn't quite get it done. That "close, but" feeling I had last night was the same as when I watched the u$c and fuskers games in y2k.

It's like de ja vu all over again.

Hey, I think everybody's figured out that I fall into the "Sunshine Pumper" category, but I'll break character momentarily to point a difference between the 2008 and 2000 teams aside from injuries.

In 2000, the games were close. The record was terrible, but if I'm not mistaken our widest margin of loss was something like 14 points to Oklahoma. I'm not looking it up, but I do remember a lot of close games.

I agree that the team hasn't been as close, point-wise, as the 2000 team. But they've hung around and been in games late. Okie lite, free-shoes, kanzass, atm, games come to mind.
 
I like to look on the bright side too..and there were some things pointed out above that were hopeful. But..and it's a big but..this is a poorly coached team, and a soft team. I do not think they are well-conditioned by the trainers, and I know that the players are not being served well by their coaches.

This year has been a regression...and using injuries as an excuse is just that..an excuse. The team to the east has progressed during the season..almost week to week..with the exception of the OK game..and they fought back in that one after a horrible start. Yesterday they played with a makeshift defense because of injuries, and suspensions..4 of the 5 linebackers played were walk-ons.

I am so sick of Hawkins and his teams playing listless. Where is the passion?? Where is the fire?? Dan seems so laid-back, one wonders if he is really engaged. Like it or not..a team takes on the personna of their head coach..because if they don't, they don't play.

Our personna is a listless, laid-back, team that is going through the motions. OK, now go ahead and flame, if you don't want to admit that.
 
the ol did play ok.

too bad we basically have no playmakers at the skill positions right now.

mahnke did play better than we could have expected, but he's not walters.

sumler played well but he isn't scott or speedy.

and, our wrs are very suspect.

they played hard. 5-7 is almost certain, unfortunately. the fuskers keep improving. our Buffs don't have the horses to go into stinkoln and win. if this game had been played in september, it might be a different story.

all we have now is "wait 'till next year." by the way, did you see any of baylor? they look way better than CU right now.

Dismissing the injury issue is a mistake. It is awfully hard to show progress each week like the team to the east when you lose your best player each week. It's been said over and over again, but when you look at our two deep over the summer and look at our two deep now, it's hardly surprising that the team has regressed. This is especially important as we all knew that we weren't particularly deep even before the injuries/defections/suspensions/eligibility issues.

Seriously, I don't remember one of my teams in any sport having the injury bug like the Buffs have had this year. Just about every position has seen it's best player lost to injury for all of or part of the season, or to academics. :wtf:
