Rivalry Game Trophies

OUBuff

American
I turned on Sports Center this morning and saw the story on the Cincy v. Louisville game... the battle for the "Keg of Nails." Tonight it was the Wisconsin v. Minnesota game... the battle for "Paul Bunyan's Axe." It is about that time of the year for so many rivalry games.

Some rivalries are great match-ups, some have cool trophies, some have both... what is your favorite spoil for the victor?

I kinda like the battle for the "Old Brass Spitoon" Indinana - Mich St.

or "The Brice-Cowell Musket" Maine v. New Hampshire -- The musket dates back to the early 1700's... cool.

GOOD TOPIC.......

The Buffs and Huskers could play for a buffalo pie full of corn!

:smile2::smile2::smile2::thumbsup:

I may have found a new favorite... Oregon v. Oregon St.

Yes, they battle for the Platypus Trophy. :wow:

I am sure just winning is enough.

IMHO if you need to come up with some gimic trophy it is not a quality rivalry to begin with.

Yea, good topic! I was just thinking about this too after seeing the keg of nails trophy on Friday night. The long-standing trophies are great traditions, and they're part of what makes college football special. I think it was last week and Minnesota and Michigan played for the Little Brown Jug. I remember a game last year (forget which trophy it was for) and when the game ended, the winning players immediately ran over to the other team's sidelines and grabbed the trophy from under the other team's bench and started running around with it. Great stuff!

I agree when the NU vs. OU game was a rivalry the only trophy that was needed was for the Big8 Champs.

I forget did CU ever get one of those (it is hell to get old):sad1:

See you all in a couple weeks:smile:

I don't know, maybe the "Missouri-Nebraska [Victory] Bell" (tradition since 1927) is a trophy Nebraska fans just choose to forget about because they can't seem to take possession of it anymore.

Good point, we will get it back next year:rolleyes:

In Ideeho there is a rivalry between BSU and U of I. Of course lately is has been one sided to say the least. I don't think they play for anything but I am suggesting the could spice it up by having the teams play for a sack o' taters.

I doubt even that could liven up this "rivalry" but hey a sack of taters?

I gotta go with Paul Bunyan's Axe between Wisconson and Minnesota. That thing is effin huge. Plus they play for a slab of bacon. Bacon tastes good.

I love the Axe, but as far as buffaloes they are only good for field dressing:lol:
I like bacon, can I make bacon out of buffalo or should I stick with steaks and ground meat. Can't wait ti see you all on the 28th. Have a safe trip out here:smile:
