Ty Willingham.

How would everyone feel about hiring him to the staff if we could? I think he would be great for us for several reasons but thats me.

He's likely looking for a HC or at least a coordinator position. Not many former head coaches go back to the ordinary coaching ranks short of some career altering disaster (see Slick Rick).

Recruiting would be the only reason to get him and I doubt he would want to take a scout/recruiter role.

yeah, great idea, hire a crappy recruiter with a terrible record as a coach to be, what, special teams coach? And Ty Willingham would want to do that why?

Ty is a mess.

He can't coach.

He can't recruit.

He asks his players to play without emotion.

He takes no responsibility.

And those are the positive comments about him.

Keep him Far, Far away from CU!

Wow, he seemed to do pretty well at Stanford. I would love to have him or someone like him on our staff. Would be great to have assistant coaches that could become hot commodities.

He did well at stanford because his predecessors were Dennis Green and Bill Walsh, who built the program and left plenty of talent, and a proven system in place that Ty Willingham was already familiar with. He was bad at Notre Dame(hardly a difficult school to recruit to), and terrible at Washington, a team that had played in the Rose Bowl this decade. Ty Willingham is not going to be a hot commodity in division I football, ever, and we don't need him here, at all.

who is hiring TY Willingham as a HC these days? no one. the guy could not be less hot.

better to me among the newly out of work is Chuck Long as QB coach at CU.

Didnt he recruit Brady Quinn, hardly an average player? He can recruit and he is very well respected too. I like the Glenn idea as well. The reason I wouldnt mind having Willingham is because I think he is better suited for coordinator or other coaching positions besides head coach. There are a ton of guys just like that, Norv Turner comes to mind. Hell of a coordinator, average head coach. I think he would add to the staff a great deal, if you see what he brings, not what he did as a head coach. Truthfully, I think he got a raw deal at Notre Dame, seems to me Weis only has won there with guys Willingham recruited.

Ty had one good class at Notre Dame. And he couldn't win with them. He took a middle of the road Pac Ten program and was 0-12 this year. 0-12!!! Do you know how hard it is to be that bad?

There are plenty of young coaches we could hire as assistants, why would we want to hire a retread like willingham?

And if we are talking about guys who can recruit, can coach, bring fire and passion, and have a CU connection, how about Jon Embree as offensive coordinator? That would make a lot more sense than Ty Willingham. Not that Helfrich is going anywhere.

Not sure how he turned into damaged goods so quickly after Notre Dame. Recruiting would be a huge question mark, but given his success at Stanford one would wonder if he could ever return to that level of success.

Anyone think (recruiting aside) he would be an upgrade over Helfrich? I'd be interested to see where the discussion goes on that one.

Yeah I know its hard to go 0-12. I also know that is what happens when Slick Rick goes anywhere. I would take Embree too. I obviously think more of Willingham than most but I think he would do a nice job in a limited role. Will that happen? Doubtful, but its just conversation.

Slick Rick got fired after the 2002 season with a winning record as coach there. Pretty hard to blame the UW mess on him 6 seasons later. I liked Ty Willingham too, when he was at Stanford, but the bottom line is that he's had very little success over 8 seasons at two major programs with a history of success.

I frankly think that its hard to judge Helfrich when the offensive line fell apart this season. Its hard to establish an identity when you have to keep two guys in to help pass block, and you can't run the ball consistently. This program is going in the right direction, we just need to be patient.

Very good analysis. I heartily agree.

For some reason I have always pulled for TW. But, dang that man sure has flopped. He had the dream job at Notre Dame and blew it.

As for him going to Colorado? Oh, man. No. You guys have a great coach in the making; Hawkins is destined for greatness, hopefully for Buffs he'll be allowed to build in the next two seasons. This season was injury ridden, otherwise Colorado would have at least, AT LEAST three more wins under their belt.

I'd be worried that the powers that be will get antsy and start making noises about Hawkins removal. Big mistake, in my opinion.

TW would be a quantum step backward.

Im aware of when Slick Rick was at udub. My point was, more or less, he didnt exactly leave it as good as it was when he got there. I remember it being very similar at CU, when our teams all the sudden werent able to run the ball anymore. I wasnt saying bring ty willingham in to replace Hawkins cause I think Hawks best days are ahead. I meant just as a piece of the puzzle.

In the history of Pac 10 football there is USC, Washington, UCLA and everyone else. It should not be hard to recruit to Washington.

Ty did inherit a bad program after Slick Rick, true. But that is no excuse for leaving it in worse shape four years later. And make no mistake it is worse. Less hope, a worse mental attitude, significantly worse football players, conditioning and discipline. Ty has had one decent recruiting class in his four years. That's a poor percentage. Slick Rick is head and shoulders above Ty in recruiting and coaching. That is saying a lot, because Rick completely sucks. Ty's version of Washington Football is sporting a winless team, the first ever in the history of Washington football (est. 1889), and it is solely based on Ty's poor recruiting and coaching ability.

Ty is a football cancer. You want to give an NCAA violator the death penalty? Require Ty to coach there for a few years.

Why? He was an overrated coach at Stanford, failed at Notre Dame and now has failed miserably at Washington.. And he's a West Coast offensive guy..

I was curious to hear what you thought of this idea...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but what Ty has done at UW goes completely against what Bohn is trying to do at CU. Running off old players from the program. Rejecting tradition. Discouraging fan interest and crowd support during the games. Plus, I'm not even sure what position he is supposed to have expertise in that would make him an effective position coach.

I have other concerns with bringing in Glenn. He's a great guy for firing up the alums, generating support and pride in the program. Fans seem to love his personna. All of which seems to be the things Hawk specializes in. Glenn seems a bit redundant to me unless he has some kind of expertise with either offense or defense I don't know about...

Well said. I agree 100%.

The UW's fanbase and boosters have never been close to this fractured, even when he took the helm as coach. Ty is like a dictator. There is no media access, practices are closed (presumably so the media can't notice the lack of coaching and hitting?), and everything must be done Ty's way.

I can't see Ty taking orders from anybody. Why would he ever become an assistant?
