So what is the deal? anyone have ANY info on this? why is it so hush hush? (aside from privacy issues) Why doesn't anyone know why he is out and could be out against fuskers?

Anyone care to share inside knowledge?

I'm going to guess he has mono or they are pulling a Cleveland Browns saga and he has staph infection. Purely speculation though.

I am thinking he may be suffering from beat-out-itis. Mahnke made more plays last game than Dykes has been making.... Maybe he's had mono all season?

And yes, I know that Mahnke replaced Walters, not Dykes, but I'd think they are a bit interchangeable.

I think he kinda looks like that creepy enormous man from Happy Gilmore, but I guess that really doesn't have much to do with his injury status.

At this point I hope it is mono. Now their saying that his career is over. When you have mono, even after symptoms have disappeared, you cannot play a contact sport because the spleen is vulnerable due to the fact that the spleen enlarges during the course of the illness. Best wishes to D.J.

I had mono twice and nobody told me to watch my spleen playing HS FB...

At Netbuffs there is a thread mentioning his injury as "career ending," not just season ending. They are quoting the HC.

For it to be that far reaching, it could likely be either head or spinal injury. No doctor would sanction an athlete to play a sport like football with certain catagories of serious spinal or head injury.

That's not true at all. If there is any swelling in the spleen a doctor would obviously keep their patient away from contact sports until it goes down, but it's not like there's a doctor somewhere in America right now telling a 15 year old kid, "well, the blood tests came back and it looks like the fatigue you've been having for the past couple of days is due to mono... I'm sorry Charlie, but regardless of what happens from here you'll never play football again."

BUT...

Why would any of these illnesses prevent his announcement for senior day?

The plot thickens.

thats what i thought was weird they didnt annouce him. i was thinkin, wheres Dikes? he is a senior so what if he is hurt. he still has contributed and deserves to be recognized.

If by saying "his career is over" they mean his CU career and not his football career, then I think it is entirely possible that he does have mono and needs to avoid contact sports. If by saying "his career is over" they mean football in general, then it is definetly more serious than mono.

Folks said he ran in with Ralphie but wasn't announced. Then again, maybe they were looking at Hansen...

Im positive it was Dykes who ran out and I couldnt find him on the sideline during the game.

As far as "career ending", I really dont expect Dykes to be drafted and he would have to have GREAT camps to join as an UFA so career and season ending are the same thing in this case.
