THE BUFFALOES: Colorado is 9-9 overall and 0-7 in Big 12 Conference play after falling to BYU, 83-67, on Jan. 21. The Buffaloes have dropped seven-straight and are 0-7 to begin conference play for the first time since 2016-17, when Colorado dropped its first seven Pac-12 games before rebounding to win eight of its last 11.

Colorado is averaging 73.3 points per game, shooting 46.0 percent from the field and 34.2 percent from 3-point range. Defensively, Colorado is allowing 72.2 points per game while opponents are shooting 42.8 percent.

The Buffaloes will be playing in their fourth true road game of the season and looking for their first win. Colorado is 1-5 away from Boulder this season, that win coming at the Maui Invitational against defending NCAA champion UConn.

The Buffaloes rank third in the Big 12 in free throw percentage (.763), sixth in rebounding defense (32.6 rpg), seventh in steals (7.9 spg) and defensive rebounds (26.0 drpg) and eighth in field goal percentage (.460).
...

ABOUT THE WILDCATS: Arizona is 12-6 overall and tied for second in the Big 12 at 6-1. The Wildcats have won eight of their last nine overall and have an 8-1 record at home this season. Arizona averages 82.9 points shooting 48.3 percent from the field ranking second and third in the Big 12 respectively. The Wildcats allow 69.2 points while opponents shoot 40 percent from the floor. Arizona is the second-best rebounding team in the conference averaging 40.0 per game.

Guard Caleb Love leads Arizona at 15.6 points per game, ranking second on the team in assists (53) and steals (25). Jaden Bradley 11.7 points with a team-high 34 steals. KJ Lewis averages 10.0 points on 48.4 percent shooting.

Tommy Lloyd is in his fourth season as the head coach of Arizona with a record of 100-26.

THE SERIES: This will be the 43rd meeting between Colorado and Arizona with the Wildcats holding a 26-16 series lead. The Wildcats have won the last four in the series including a 99-79 decision in Boulder on Feb. 10, 2024. Arizona holds a 15-3 all-time lead in Tucson. The Buffaloes last win at Arizona came on Dec. 20, 1965.

In the Pac-12 era, the teams met 29 times with the Wildcats holding a 21-8 edge. Only 10 of those games were in Boulder, where CU has a 7-3 advantage. The teams met 12 times in Tucson during that span (Arizona 12-0) and seven times in a neutral setting at the Pac-12 Tournament (Arizona 6-1).

Did someone tell RJ that he is no longer allowed to shoot? Not even looking to square up or create.

Reactions: GRM
Arizona is having major difficulties with the "Taddy Zone" Who woulda thunk it.

Saw the score and decided to tune in for the final 15 mins. Looks like Jak buttered his hands. I hope I don't regret watching. UA's shame of losing to us at home would be worth it.

At this point it's pretty obvious that Tad should start focusing on playing the young high upside guys a lot more. Guys like RJ Smith/Rancik/Kossaras shouldn't be averaging just 22/14/7.7 minutes per game respectfully. They should be prioritized over Carrington/Ruffin/Jakimovski. Carrington/Ruffin are worthless in the first place and add very little and Jakimovski is gone next year and is very inefficient (a 6'8" forward in 2025 shouldn't be shooting only 39% from the floor on that volume)

Also Dak is only averaging 16 mpg, why???? He's been getting more playing time lately but he shouldn't be playing any less than 25-30mpg. He's one of the few guys that actually has a ton of upside.

Agree. Geez they fall apart quickly. Once the turnovers start, the defense just quits. 1st sign of adversity, they just roll over. This CU team is bad on both sides of the floor. Defensively they are bad and listless. Overall, these Buffs are just very challenged in talent and effort. Hammond is the Buff's only somewhat consistent player, and it is not like he is even all-conference honorable mention.

Dak's minutes are curtailed by his foul situation. All season, Dak goes through phases where he picks up fouls and commits turnovers quickly in droves. Dak is a Jeckl and Hyde, great for some stretches, and just awful in others. Once Dak picks up fouls, his defense drops off. Diop is that way too.

Agree on RJ Smith, I think he has some upside, so let him develop it.

All of the other guys you listed above have played so inconsistent throughout the season, it is tough to field a decent five guys at anytime. I'm not sure Rancik or Baskin can play huge minutes in this league, as they are challenged on defense. Ruffin had a decent game today offensively, but he is challenged on defense too. This is going to be a long season.

Houston has a bunch of dawgs. They play as hard as anybody in the country. I went to a home game last year. Fun to watch.

They’ll beat us by 25+. In Boulder. With their bench guys.

I mean, I didn't even pay attention to what time the game was going to be on today, so I ended up missing the whole thing.
I was following on my phone but didn't turn it on because I didn't want to jinx it. And then things turned south and I couldn't stomach the thought of watching.

What will it take for Tad to continue using the zone when his man defense is playing like crap? Really gave AZ fits.

Only 13 posts in an Arizona road game thread speaks loudly about the current state of this program.
it's getting really hard to stay engaged. that 0'fer in the conference win column is really painful.

but, Go Buffs! I really love CU hoops. I usually have fun attending games. I'm going to keep trying to stay checked in, but I'm honestly not sure what I'm rooting for anymore.

They're getting into the same problem CU football was in during the Dorrell years (and Tucker, if we're being honest). It's one thing to lose. It's another thing to be boring and lose. The only thing remotely interesting about this team is Dak.

good analogy.

digging in, the difference in enjoying games in person, when comparing KD era football games and this year's hoops game is tailgating and vibe of sitting outdoors at Folsom. my lifestyle doesn't support anything close to that for a Tuesday night hoops game.

I think tomorrow night dictates the rest of the season. I'm not saying we suddenly go on a win streak if we win, but if we lose the only remaining game we really have a shot at (add maaaaybe TCU), I could see this team shutting down completely. If ASU beats us big, I could see us easily going 0-fer in conference and losing every game the rest of the way by double digits.

Going 0fer is not 0kay even for this tad supporter

Buffs Return Home To Host Arizona State Tuesday

By: Troy Andre, Associate Director/Athletic Communications

Game 20 - Arizona State, Tuesday, January 28, 2025
CU Events Center, Boulder, Colo.
Tip: 7:01 p.m. MT
Watch: ESPN+ (Chuckie Kempf, Bryndon Manzer)
Radio: KOA 850 AM & 94.1 FM (Mark Johnson, Scott Wilke)
Listen Online: Sirius XM 381, SXM App 971
Live Statistics: http://statb.us/b/546206

THE BUFFALOES: Colorado is 9-10 overall and 0-8 in Big 12 Conference play after falling at Arizona on Jan. 25. The Buffaloes have dropped their last eight, their longest losing streak since falling in the final 12 games of the 2008-09 season. It's Colorado's first 0-8 start to conference play since 1992-93 (finished 2-12 in the Big Eight).

Colorado is averaging 72.8 points per game, shooting 45.8 percent from the field, but those numbers have dipped to 67.4 points on 43.9 shooting during conference games. Defensively, Colorado is allowing 72.5 points per game overall while opponents are shooting 43.1 percent. During Big 12 games, Colorado is allowing 78.1 points while opponents shoot 45.7 percent.

The Buffaloes will be looking to end a rare four-game home skid, their most since the 2008-09 team lost their last five at the CU Events Center. Prior to the beginning of this streak, Colorado had won 24 of 25 at the CU Events Center dating back to last season.

The Buffaloes rank third in the Big 12 in free throw percentage (.763), seventh in 3-point shooting (.348), steals (7.7 spg) and defensive rebounds (25.8 drpg) and eighth in rebounding defense (32.8 rpg).
...

ABOUT THE SUN DEVILS: Arizona State is 11-8 overall and one of four teams at 2-6 in the Big 12. The Sun Devils have lost five of six since their 81-61 win over Colorado on Jan. 4. Arizona State is 1-4 in true road games this season. ASU averages 73.5 points while shooting 44.5 percent from the field. The Sun Devils shoot 36.1 from 3-point range, ranking fifth in the Big 12. Defensively, Arizona State allows 71.7 points while opponents shoot 41.5 percent. ASU ranks second in the Big 12 in blocked shots at 5.2 per game.

BJ Freeman leads Arizona State in scoring at 13.0 points per game ranking second on the team in 3-point field goals (36) and assists (50). Joson Sanon is second on the team in scoring at 12.5 points, primarily off the bench, hitting 48.4 percent from long range. Basheer Jihad averages 12.4 points on 46.4 percent from the field. Jayden Quaintance leads Arizona State in rebounding at 8.5 per game while ranking third in the nation in blocked shots at 3.0 per game.

Bobby Hurley is in his 10th season at Arizona State with a record of 166-139 (.544). He is in his 12th season overall as a collegiate head coach with a 208-159 mark (.567).

THE SERIES: This will be the 30th meeting between Colorado and Arizona State with the Buffaloes holding a 16-13 edge in the series. Arizona State took the first Big 12 match-up between the two old Pac-12 Conference rivals, 81-61, in Tempe on Jan. 4. The teams split last year's Pac-12 battles, both winning at home. Colorado has a 10-3 all-time edge in Boulder.

Tad Boyle is 14-12 as a head coach against Arizona State. Bobby Hurley is 7-10 against Colorado as a head coach.

I know ASU has lost 5 of 6, but how on earth are we favored? At least they've been somewhat competitive in those games. -2.5 is basically giving us the home court +3 bump, but I'm betting we have about 3k in the building tonight. 😧

Thank you for alerting me to this exciting investment opportunity.
