Muschamp most likely to Auburn

FOX10 News sources have told us Auburn will likely name Will Muschamp its new head coach sometime Friday. Muschamp was Auburn's defensive coordinator two years ago. WVUE in New Orleans first reported Muschamp would likely be the Tigers new

That could be a little help potentially when we play Texas.
I'm not sure that I'd take that job if I were him knowing I was going to replace Mack Brown when he retires. I guess it would depend on how long Mack plans on sticking around.

My guess is Greg Robinson will go back to UT as DC if Muschamp leaves...and that is no walk in the park for opposing OC's. Greg Robinson may have been a flop at Syracuse, but he was a pretty good DC at UT.

There are also reports of Skip Holtz and Spurrier to be named...I think it is unlikely that Muschamp goes...he was in Arizona yesterday with Mack on a recruiting trip for a DE.

Spurrier would be a disaster IMO. He is what 65 y.o.? He has not been able to recreate the UF magic and his 'Cocks are pretty, well, limp. I doubt he has much left in the tank and if I were him I would have spent the last several years on the golf course....

Reports are that Spurrier wants 3 years then retire and his son takes over. Auburn wants 5 years and no to the son.

Not gonna happen

Dan Patrick was reporting this at about 8:00 this morning, and going on and on about his inside sources that had told him this was coming.

By about 8:15 he was displaying a backpedal that Champ Bailey would kill for....

His story now is that Muschamp is demanding a deal like Saban has at Bama. Not $,$$$,$$$,$$$,$$$,$$$,$$$, but reporting directly to the President instead of to the AD. Apparently there is some bad blood between Muschamp and the AD that goes back to the last time Will worked there.

My bet is that he doesn't end up there. Auburn would be pretty stupid to set up a first time head coach above the authority of the AD and UT would be hellapissed and probably pulling all their strings to keep him from going. It's going to be interesting to see how it plays out, though.. :wow:

The Auburn athletic department is the definition of dysfunction. It does not surprise me one bit that Muschamp would ask for some conditions like that.

Looking for a link...but "allegedly" Muschamp was just quoted as saying "I am staying at Texas until they fire me."

So hopefully we didn't fire him...

Perhaps, but if true, the request is highly unusual. Can you imagine interviewing with a guy, and as he's about to hire you, you say "and I don't want to report to YOU".

And no doubt it is weird. It has to be a funny situation because everyone at that school knows the AD holds little power and is really just a grand title more than anything.

Actually I did have that exact same situation. I turned down a position that was offered and when the guy asked why I told him I didn't think it would be in my best career interests to report to him.

Dead silence on other side from the guy.

BTW. One of the best moves I made. He was canned 6 months later and his department was reassigned at lower levels then I currently was.
