When one redshirts, one is still allowed to practice, right? I really am not hearing much chatter or anticipation about Polk's debut this year. Why?

How did Polk look in practice?

This could be wrong, but I think I remember hearing he got injured in practice and needed minor surgery, anyone?

He needed surgery on his shoulder towards the end of the season. Just saw him today and he seemed to be doing just fine (no brace on his arm anymore) and hopped up some stairs like it was nothing. Hopefully jumping up the stairs is a sign that he will be able to jump over defenders

He was pretty impressive imo. A fast, shifty RB who will see plenty of PT with us next year.

The only issues I saw was problems catching the ball. I noticed him drop a good amount of screen passes. I'm sure he's taken care of it during the season. He asked for the RS.

I remember the interview. He didn't ask for a RS.

daaah your my buddy... but i trust valdez 3 billion times more than you

no offense

"Ray came to me; it was his idea," Hagan said Sunday evening after a one-hour practice. "He feels that with a year of redshirting, he will get better as an athlete and better as a runner. If that's what he wants to do, then, hey, that's fine."

Edit: I'm not intending to get over on anyone. I just remember being really surprised that Ray went to Hagan and asked for the RS.

Ok. Fair enough. I trust valdez more than myself anyway. I just thought I rememberred stuff before that quote. But hell, what do I know? Seriously.

Frankly, I believe most players benefit from red shirting. Once the depth on this team gets there, there will be fewer true freshmen playing.

Iwish the Limit for Ray Polk he had every reason to decommit but instead welcomed the challenge of Scott and Now Speedy this guys going to be a great player over his career and I see NFL in his future if he stays healthy. He welcomes challenge and should not be over used with nice rotation of guys that are in place.

_CanuckSpeak catch it it is a fever that you never look to cure!

wonder if that had something to do with his shoulder? Maybe thats why he asked for the RS, since he knew he wasn't right?

so long as he doesnt drop those handoffs out of the shotgun we'll be ok.

I had a class with him and he didn't injure his elbow until about 2/3 of the way through the semester

Agreed. Very few want to RS, but very few are ready to jump in and contribute as freshmen, too.

I remember a lot of people talking about him switching positions. I haven't heard too much lately.

If the staff doesn't recruit an one this cycle, Polk will be the only frosh RB on the roster (barring any walkons, transfers, etc.). I kinda think he's gonna stay stay there, jmho.

He got injured near the end of the season. Hawkins (at the last luncheon I believe) called him out as one of the top players on the practice squad (he named about 10-12 guys we should look forward to) and stated he could really run the ball. I don't see him changing positions.

I think our 3-headed monster at RB is going to be great.... if we make a commitment to the running game (and the OLine bounces back from injury)

Let's see how camp goes before saying anyone needs to switch position - who knows, maybe DScott is the odd-man out
