Regis H.S. names new football coach
Written by: Jesse Horne

AURORA - Mark Nolan was named the new head coach of the Regis Jesuit football team, the school said in a statement sent to 9NEWS on Friday.

Nolan spent the past three years on at the University of Colorado, serving as Director of Recruiting and Assistant Director of Football Operations for head coach Dan Hawkins.

Aside from being head coach, Nolan will also teach in the Social Studies and Physical Education departments.

"Nolan brings with him an outstanding combination of football knowledge and educational practice," Jim Gmelich, Regis Jesuit Boys Division Principal and member of the selection committee, said in the statement.

I thought Coach Gerantano (sp?) was still the Regis headcoach.....last time I checked (1983), he was still there.....

Sweet. We pay our coaches so well they can get more from a HS. AWESOMEEEEEE!!!11

If Nolan ever plans to move up to coaching in college, this is one smart path towards that goal. He coaches a few years at a well-respected high school, does well (we hope), and then moves into an assistant something or other somewhere else. And then a new job with more responsibility, or at a bigger name college, and so on. Has to start somewhere.

It's similar to the reason I suspect Grimes left: the opportunity to eventually run his own show. Yeah, money's a factor, but I don't think that's the whole story in Nolan's case, I think it's the experience he wants.

Sure, look at what it's done for Dave Logan and Andy Lowry.

Don't know about Lowry, but I have a feeling Logan likes it just where he is.
Runs the show, gets great players every year without (cough cough) recruiting, excellent parent/community support, lots of championships and championship runs.

He likes it just the way it is.

Logan has never denied he'd like to be a college HC, he just isn't willing to put in the work necessary to get there - i.e. - paying dues as an assistant for 10-15 years first.

As for Lowry, I hope he gets a shot as an assistant somewhere if that's what he wants. He is somebody who probably should be in consideration for the O-line job at CU. There's a guy who knows how to get a running game going.
