Looks like it will be even easier to beat the lambs

They lost a quarterback who had a pretty decent chance of starting this year. Looks like once again they will be playing a senior QB the next few years so we may not see the same kid twice.

Kelly leaves team...

I'm glad that the kid isn't going to stick with something that he'll regret. If he'd rather play baseball, good for him deciding to do so. Bad break for the lammies.

Re: Looks like it will be even easier to be the lambs

I'm not convinced that losing depth at a key position is a "blessing in disguise", but okay.

Coach Fairchild did a great job last year, and hit the ground running. However, one possible reading--between the lines--would be that he hasn't generated the excitement necessary to keep this kid's head in it. Another reading could be that this guy just wants to play baseball.

Re: Looks like it will be even easier to be the lambs

I think this hurts them more than they're letting on. I think this was the kid they were counting on to be the guy next year. Now they're back to square one. On the positive side, they have all of spring and fall camp to get Kubiak enough reps. I honestly don't think they were wanting to go into next season with Kubiak at QB, though.

Re: Looks like it will be even easier to be the lambs

We better crush them, crush them like a helpless bug. Give them 4 miserable quarters that they just wish they would wake up and it will be ok.

I doubt kubiak will start. The juco eastman and stucker will probably vie for that title. They may move borcky back to qb.

Regardless, CU needs to come out and kick their ass. No last second victories at home vs csu.

Something about that article doesn't smell right. Kid has a football scholarship at a D-1 school (albeit CSU, but technically it's still D-1), is in line to be the starting QB, and gives it up to maybe play baseball somewhere else?

When I first heard the story, I thought that maybe he had signed a contract to play baseball and was going into the minors. The way the linked article makes it sound, he's just flat out quitting the football team, and leaving CSU (in mid semester, no less), to test the waters of college baseball with no solid offer in hand for a roster spot or even a scholarship.

Something smells here.

It's probably Greeley.

For some reason I first read this as, "Crush them like a helpless dog." Maybe because I saw this t-shirt awhile back that said, "For every vegetarian I meet, I will crush/kill (can't remember which) an innocent dog."

Thought it was pretty funny.

Rumor is that the JC kid from Utah (who is older due to Mission trip) has put his print on this position for the next couple years. Baseball looks good compared to being 2-3rd string...

What do you know about the JC kid? Most top flight JC kids don't go to CSU if they can go someplace else. My first instinct is to think that the kid is probably OK, but nothing special. Case in point - Nelson at CU. He came in and wasn't able to beat a 5'10" redshirt freshman after tearing it up at the JC he was at.

Seems to me whoever the guy is a stopgap measure before the kid from Florida comes in the Fall. I think he pushes for the starting job as a redshirt freshman.

I think he's pretty good. I don't think he is good enough to start as a true freshman, but watch out in 2010.

How do they get these bigger decent qb's and we struggle to find them? I know we got clark but they seem to have some guys who really throw it well vs cu.

I'm baffled why Evans was not pursued by more programs. I think the guy has the potential to be really good.

The only thing I've read about this Juco CSU kid was a John Henderson article I believe that hyped the **** out of him and glazed over Evans...not to mention the kid only had 1 offer (from the Rammies)

all credibility lost

don't go too nuts over the Florida kid. Ranieri has talent, but is very raw. His learning curve will be big--he's not ready to be the next Moses Moreno yet.

Ranieri is a ways off from competing for the starting spot, but he is definitely being counted on as the long term solution for CSU following what I expect will be a redshirt Freshman year.

I almost posted this article, but at least the one I read said this kid is the 3rd string, and quoted Fairchild saying something like he could bench the #1 and #2 guys to play him. It sounds to me like he thought he had a better future in baseball, and who cares about a 3rd stringer, except that if #1/2 go down they turn to other recruits who'd played QB in high school.

It's probably Greeley.

That's uncalled for!!

(...and only true if the wind is blowing the wrong way)
