OL, DL and our running game

All of the reports are that the team is using a new technique to run block with their elbows, instead of their hands. All of the reports from the DL side is that they are shooting the gaps better and stopping the run either behind the line or at the line, but are having problems getting to the QB in a passing situation so they are rushing more (LBs, safeties) and leaving the cornerbacks on an island.

For those that have attended practice how do you think the OL run blocking is coming along given their new scheme? Should we be worried? A power running game starts with the OL and if they are struggling getting holes opened with a inferior DL, at this point, then I wonder how we will fare in Big 12 play. We have a nasty OL and I know we've only been 1 week into practice, but I didn't think a new run blocking technique would cause this much issue. I keep hearing that the team is using the endaround and going to the outside, but we should be able to go up the middle over and over again for good ypc.

Any word from former OL guys would certainly help mollify my fears.

Everything that I have heard is that the OL is big, mean, and they're getting a great push.

I have a hard time believing they aren't shooting their hands on front-side blocking. I can read a little cut-off/swoop blocking into your description as far as backside cut-off blocks but I have never heard of anyone going back to the 70's and keeping their hands inside and throwing elbows.

Perhaps they're working without hands to improve balance? I don't know, just guessing. Perhaps the frozen lawyer from the north can comment on that.

The frozen lawyer only knows how to cry about holding...I'd have to see it to comment on it...didn't get to fly out for the coaches clinic this year...

What is this "Holding" concept you speak of. I am not familiar with it. :smile2:

Coach--"Wyo, why aren't you making any tackles?"

Wyo--"heeeeeeee'ssss HOOOOOOOOLLLLLLDDDDDDDDDing me coach...(sniff)"

Holding is a term used to describe if a drug dealer has drugs on him at the time. "Hey, man, are you holding (drugs)?" "Yeah, everything but H, and my dick."

The elbow tech. is used to train for foot speed, too keep the defender in front of you, but not to use your hands. This tech should limit our holding calls as well.......GO BUFFS!!!!

See bro. That's why they saw the light and switched me to O for my last 3 years!

yeah, story of my career, every D-lineman I could beat got switched to O-line and put in front of me...Hansen, Lepsis, Kenny Brown, I was gone when you got switched.

:smile2: now that's a team player right there. coach: "oh ****, he beat out fla., but barely. damn. i guess we have to switch him to the ol if we wanna get ANY value from him because he ain't gonna do **** on defense."

Ouch. I am not sure that that come out the way Fla intended it.

Fla:

I prefer to believe that when the intelligence test results came back, it was clearly a waste of intellect to allow such brilliance to languish on Defense. : - )

I know you agree with that!!!!

Almost...it was more, oh ****, Fla is beating this guy. If he can't beat that creak-kneed swampdweller we better put him on offense. I don't think it was an official stat, like the Mendoza line in baseball, but is sure seemed that way...:wow::huh::cry:

Wyo, I have a D-tackle now that is getting some recruiting interest, 6'3 230, but he's too smart for d-line too...he will be an OT somewhere in 2-3 years.

After which he will have a long and fruitful career as a professional in some field. To be honest, Fla, I got shake in the NFL at OL, something that never would have happened on D. On top of that, the true benefit was an A- average in a double major at a respected school. Following a decent LSAT, I could have gone to law school anywhere. It truly opened doors for me. More so because I ended up starting for two years based on out-working the next guy. This gave me a tremendous amount of self-confience that I would have otherwise lacked. If you don't believe it, no one else will either, right? I have to say, after "making it" in Boulder, I have an almost delusional amount of self-confidence now and really haven't been proven wrong in any pursuit yet.

So you're saying you really are the "God of Thunder"? Damn, good work!
