Spring game...

Cody starts. The size of the crowd looks respectable.

To me it does given the weather. We aren't a team that sells out the spring game so I'm not expecting 20k+ and given that I didn't hear a buzz like last year it looks about 12-15k. Not great, but not bad.

My PC is kaput. So I'll not be in the chat room or on BuffTV.:sad1:

iPhone and the forum is all I got. What's happening?

Cody has shown more poise, presence and has even shown good arm strength in some of his throws. I've seen a couple of "WTF?" type passes and a non-call grounding penalty that would have been a safety. Overall, I would definitely say he's in the lead though. He's gotten rid of his feet shuffling, but he can still lock on his guy, especially the guy in the flat.

The LBs have been strong and have shown good speed. When they rush on the outside the OL and TEs have struggled to contain them.

The OL can create holes in the DL, but the LBs have stepped up and have a nose for the ball going up the middle. The guards are pulling A LOT now.

There's been a lot of double TE formations with a single back. I think I've only seen the I-formation once :/

The secondary seems to be struggling a bit since it's man-coverage a lot. That'll make for better corners (Jimmy Smith has shown some brilliance) but in the pass Happy Big 12 we'll see how that plays out.

The running game is the most intriguing aspect. I've seen a lot of misdirection instead of grinding it up the middle. Scott has shown strength and power to get yards after contact, but IMO he's the only one.

Lock's counter(weak) is awesome and is a damn good fake. Speedy had a good run, but hasn't been able to go up the middle. In fact, most of the running game has been to the outside. I want to see us attacking the middle over and over again and controlling the pace better. I know that isn't necessarily the intent of spring ball and things may be different in the fall, but doing so now will better prepare us if we decide to do so come September.

Cody looked much worse in the 'second half' than in the first. That said, he looked REALLY solid in the first.

Cody looked OK in the first half, had some guys wide open. Hanson got the second biggest cheer from the crowd....behind D Scott. However, Hanson didn't impress me. he's got wheels but didn't throw it very well.

Lockridge looked good IMO. Sumler, solid. Scott had some moments.

I'd guess about 5,000-6,000 at any given time. lots of people coming and going due to weather and the Nuggets game, no doubt.

Scott had one hellava punt.... no joke
he also had a nice throw that was caught for a TD but called back
due to offensive pass interference-

Say more about the punt, please.

Kicked it inside the 10 (5?) and the gunner was there, but was being blocked. It didn't look like the hangtime was great though. I would prefer a punt that were 5 yards less but let 3 guys surround the returner (if they would even call a fair catch).

DS' throw for a TD was on target, but his mechanics were horrible. We all chuckled in the chat room  I think VY taught him how to throw. That's fine though, he's a RB. We can't have him be our punter, QB, RB and KO returner all in one. :smile2:

Oh, the other thing, but they ran the same trick play TWICE. The HB pass once with Lockridge and the other with DS. Cute plays like that irritate me in practice.

Either way, the execution was solid on most plays and the team showed a lot more consistency. That'll make for less bone-head type plays next year.

48 yards and I believe about a 4.6 hangtime.

it cracked me up that he had to start the next series out of the hole he put himself in...

:smile2:

i was impressed with the backfield and the pass rush...

the no-contact rule on the qb's ended a few plays too soon, imo...

i am a little worried about our db's...they weren't on the playbook today.

cody still looked like #1 right now. thank god we have a softer schedule than usual this year, and even so i think 10 wins is gonna be a struggle...

i only saw the first half, but i'd agree with all of this.

I thought DScott's punt was high, and his pass almost as high... caught for a td, but simas pushed off a little (didn't need to with his height and that pass). Dilallo's motion seems weird to me - he never got one blocked, but I kept thinking he would.

Goodman made a 50-yarder!!

Mahnke dropped a tipped pass right in his hands.

Goodman also made a 45 yarder.

Jsmith dropped a pass too.

WTF? Hansen broke his thumb? WTF? Is it on his throwing hand? WTF?

I was wondering if Hansen got hurt, or if I was crazy. I thought I saw Cody trot out there for about 3 series in a row in the 2nd half.

I don't think they threw much in the 2d... it was all running plays while I was there.

They were burning the clock, without stopping it for first downs or out of bounds...trying to escape without any other injuries, since we now have only one healthy quarterback on scholarship.

fair nuff. So I guess we can't really extrapolate anything but the 1st half performance...

I still think it was cuz the cheerleaders didn't show for the 2nd half :smile2:
