These are players that will be starting by Big 12 play if they are not already starting by the CSU game. Not everybody, just some impact players who I can think of right now.

RB: Darrell Scott, what an improvement. He just looks physically better this year. He is hard to bring down, is a grinder after contact, and has speed. He is gonna live up to his hype, and I think he will break out in a big way this season. His hard work is paying off and you could tell both physically and the way he played yesterday.

QB: Cody Hawkins, most wont like this, but I just don't see it in Hansen's passing. It's hard to tell in scrimmages for sure, but I just don't see him beating out Cody. Cody can still be an efficient QB and lead this team to more wins in '09 with better OL play and a potent rushing attack. I am not as worried as a lot of people if Cody starts. Ya, you will still see batted down balls and WTF type passes, but he is gonna be the man IMO and he can lead and win like he did in 2007. Hansen will still be used in situations.

WR: Marques Simas. The guy really does catch anything thrown to him. Even though it was an offensive PI call on his TD catch, he still made a hell of a catch. A Charles Johnson or Michael Westbrook type catch.

Ryan Miller and Bryce Givens will both be starters on the line. Both are beasts and will punish.

One more note, Jimmy Smith has NFL written all over him, what a talent and props to him for turning things around.

Agreed with Hawkins. Hansen has the athleticism, but Cody has the pocket presence. I know Hansen is young and doesn't have as many games under his belt as Cody does, but the poise in the pocket matters and that's where Hawkins excels over Hansen. Cody is more aware of what is going on around him than Hansen, especially when the pocket collapses.

Once Hansen fixes that I think he has more potential than Cody, but that's why Chase, McCoy and Reesing excel (along with their strong arm).

QB----- Hawkins,... though i don't really care anymore.. neither are gamebreakers

RB.... NOT Scott..... I see the chart. 1) Stewart 2) Lockridge (I think he is the MOST improved. ) 3rd Scott. Although i don't see it being officially that way. Shunning scott would provoke a LOT of critical fans.

WR- Agreed. Simas is Exceptional! he fights for the ball in a way that josh smith does NOT.

RB - Love speedy but Sumler and Scott have the big time bodies.

WR - Simas (see above)

QB - Hawkins starts.

Do the coaches start grooming the incoming frosh qb's?

When Hawkins really had trouble last year and got pulled was when he lost that pocket presence against FSU. I guess I don't blame him much as he was getting nailed almost every play, but he started getting some serious happy feet and would just run backwards. If he can keep his pocket presence (and the line can form some semblance of a pocket), I'm good with him. If he starts that happy feet stuff again because the line can't keep him from getting killed, we need someone who is a bit more elusive than him (Hansen) back there.

Scott at 3? Not if he plays like he did on Saturday. The guy is the best back we have period!

Yeah - Scott looked great... all 4 of the RB's looked great.

yep, just gotta keep em all happy. I actually don't think Stewart will see as many carries this year, there is too much talent around him at the position.

Probably so but they can easily get the ball in his hand in other ways. I believe I saw him return a KO in the first half, just get him in space.

Scott should get 15 to 20 carries a game, period. I think he is a guy that will get better and better the more ya feed him. That said, we have to get Speedy and Lockridge involved and Sumler can do a little of everything so i say we need to just bust some folks in the mouth this year and play action off of it. Lol, sounds easy huh.

I don't think Miller, Solder AND Bryce can all start .... they're all OT bodies, not interior guys.

And somwhere I saw Sumler ahead of Scott on a depth chart .... Sumler?!

Well that's what's happening. Miller at RG. He is tall but will make a great Guard IMO
Really? Okay ... sounds unusual, but it's fine with me ....

Then MTM at the other OG, and Iltis at center?

Rodney and D-Scott will do some WICKED damage behind these 5 ....

Yessir. It looks like: Solder, MTM (if fully recovered), Iltis, Miller, Givens. That is one monster OL:wow:

Best O-Line since Gurode/Rogers anyway ... and that glorious pummeling of fusker nation.

But what's the deal there with MTM? IF he's fully recovered ... IF?

Can you give me a nutshell ... was it a back injury?

Did both MTM and Miller get red-shirts, or did they play too much?

ACL tear.

BroncoBuff - did you just wake up from a winter nap or what? Miller at Guard? MTM got hurt?

Behrens will be the favorite to start at LG imo. MTM will have a long road back from ACL but he's a beast.

Miller - with Med redshirt - SOPH
Solder - JR
Iltis - SOPH
MTM - with Med redshirt - FROSH
Givens - FROSH
Behrens - SOPH
Bahr - SOPH
Adkins - SOPH
Dannewitz - FROSH

This is the offensive line of the future, not to mention any of the incoming freshmen. What a change from the last few years!!!!

went back and re-watched the CU spring game on the website and picked up some stuff I didn't see live. Far from "breaking down film", but here is some stuff I saw:

O-Line did a good job in general, and the offense was pretty mistake free, given a new offense. There is a lot of depth here and I think we have about 13-14 guys with everyone healthy who can handle the job.

Hawkins had the 1st team the first 3 series and Hansen had the 2nd team. when I watched live, I felt Cody had secured the job. Re-watching it, Hansen had more real pressure and handled it pretty good. Both made good throws and some bad ones. Cody had those two right sideline passes that were the plays of the game (Espy and Simas for a TD), but he was exploiting Arthur Jaffee at CornerBack, a walkon who was a RB until a few weeks ago. Still, those were nice passes. Other than that, I'd say it was pretty even, which is closer than I thought originally.

Cody threw an awful pass to J-Fly who was open in the end zone. Should have been picked. Hansen threw a pass to J-Fly who was well-covered and the ball was tipped in the air. Mahnke then dropped it. QB play overall was not great.

Lot of walk-ons got time and there's a lot of football players in this group. Jaffee is around the ball, as is Satterfield, Gouin (AFA transfer), Silipo (UNC transfer) and others. CSU used to take these kids and now they are ignored and walking on at CU. Some will play.

Ewing is a hitter. I hadn't seen him play or heard much but he was delivering some shots out there. Looks like a player that will develop.

Herrod brings some pressure. Obi had some good plays.

Burton is a beast. Sipili was also making some pops. The LBs look very good.

Jalil Brown got dusted twice (espy for a TD and J-Fly on a long completion in the 2 minute drill from Hansen). Both times he was up on the receiver tight and got burned. Jalil is a good player, so that was surprising.

Not to get carried away, but Jimmy Smith played well. He was locking down, which hopefully says more about Jimmy than our WR's... Hoping like hell! He looked dominant.

Lastly, the most controversial point I'll make. All the RB's looked great. I noticed that DS seemed to not make cuts at the LOS when he needed to a few times. He had a huge hole and Sipili filled it and he just ran right at him and I can say Sipili didn't exactly get run over. So either DS hasn't the instincts to make these guys miss or Hagen has been telling him to NOT run around guys (as so many young RBs do). I think it's probably the latter. But I noticed this several times - the one with Sipili had about a 10 foot hole open up and there was Sipili standing in the middle and DS ran right at him. If DS puts a little shake/bake on him, Sipili may end up with an arm tackle and I guarrantee DS gets some yards. There was way too much room on either side of Sipili for him to make a direct hit on DS like that.... It's on Buff TV for everyone to see...

Hagan said him self that Scott has "little to no wiggle." Which means he will either run around you or through you, he won't juke anyone IMO. Looking back at the games and his HS film, this appears to be the case.

BB-MTM>Behrens IMO

my two cents on those plays: Scott has 1 been coached to do that and 2 it was the spring game... People were definitely not in full aggressionmode... I think normally Scott has a good chance to blow through sip but he def held back there

I'm a bit worried about MTM's long-term prospects of playing much for CU.

I'm disappointed I wasn't able to see the Spring game. From all accounts, Cody is looking to be the guy unless Hansen really steps up in Summer camp.

The only way Cody can be truly effective is if we have a killer ground game. And I mean a 200+ yard per game running game. The kind of rushing attack that sucks in safeties and linebackers and leaves receivers in 1-1 coverage. Go up against a team with a very talented D-Line (UT, for instance), and we're toast.

I did hear the coaches say they're looking at getting multiple RBs in the game at the same time. Lining up Scott and Stewart in the backfield at the same time would produce some serious matchup problems for opposing defenses. Do they guard the interior with Scott, or the outside with Stewart? That could be very fun to watch.
