Wide Receivers (6):
Jr. Scotty McKnight Newport Beach, CA (Tesoro)
Jr. Josh Smith Moorpark, CA (Moorpark)*Starter*
Jr. Andre Simmons Independence, KS
So. Markques Simas San Diego, CA (Mira Mesa)*Starter*
Fr. Jarrod Darden Keller, TX (Central)
Fr. Terdema Ussery Dallas, TX (St. Mark's)
Players in Bold have seen playing time.

Graduating after 2009-10 - Zero
WR taken last year- Three
2010 recruiting needs – Two (I originally put one, but we should bring at the very least two solid kids in this cycle)

This should easily be one of the most improved squads for Colorado next season. Scotty McKnight and Josh Smith are the only two receivers that have any significant playing time in this group, but the addition of Markques Simas will automatically boost this group. BIG TIME. Marques should be able to produce immediately. He looked to me like our best receiver on the field during the spring.

Of the three incoming recruits this year, the most important addition is Andre Simmons. He's a big target that will make things happen with the ball in his hands imo. The only issue with him is the summer school classes he has to take. This is very much like the situation that Shaun Mohler faced last year. If Simmons fails to qualify, it will be a huge loss imo. We all know we need all the play makers we can get our hands on. Especially at WR. So far all the news coming in on Simmons has been positive. The other incoming recruits are T. Ussery and J. Darden. I expect the coaching staff will throw a RS on one of them. Probably at the end of fall camp. My bet is that will be Darden. I believe the staff won't want to rush him in any way because of his injury. Ussery isn't exactly a track star out there, but I think he'll become a great possession receiver. Hopefully he can come in get some invaluable playing time.

I think we'll only need one WR if Simmons qualifies. If we lose out on Simmons we may need to go the Juco route once more. And we all know how Syko gets his panties in a twist with those Juco kids. :smile2:

Edit: I agree with Syko. We should pull in two WR's this cycle. Looking at our offer list we are going after some great talent. Two top WR's should be all we need. Especially with the possible addition of Toney Clemons.

Word on simmons sounds good to this point,he seems focused and I think we'll be set for fall with simas, smith, simmons and mcknight. Maybe espinosa gets some playing time or one of the freshman. Would like to see us get 2-3 more in 2010.

Good post, well except for the last part cause I know more than me are concerned about juco's and with our depth simmons getting in. It's okay, I know you have issues and are trying to work them out....

All depends on Clemons. If he comes here, we only need two. If not, we probably need three again.

I did forget about Toney Clemons. He should be a Jr with Simas in two years. Right?

Any word on clemmons yet? Did he set a time frame for when he would announce? Two big, tall, speedy WR would be real nice this cycle.

He's visiting UCONN and Cincinnati this month and will pull the trigger at the end of the month

We have a ton of offers out to WRs. I'm thinking coaches are thinking three high schoolers here no matter what happens with Simmons or Clemons.

And that makes sense. Figure you'll have at least two WR's on the field at any one time, and if you can get three in this next class they could all be redshirted if need be to create that spacing that we want. However, I'd be pleased if we could land two blue chip WR's in this class.

last year at one point EARLY on I counted 21 offers to WR's by CU. We got three... We need three at a minimum since we are likely to redshirt one this year at MOST.
