Katie getting a little heat in the comments section.

:wow:...that's not saying too much for the female gender if she's listed as a top 10 female athlete....I mean, wasn't she "terrible"?

I've always been sympathetic to Katie. Am I missing something?

--I genuinely suspect that she was treated poorly by the staff and the team. That's a leadership issue in my opinion, not a Katie issue.

--It wouldn't shock me if she were sexually assaulted. It happens far too often in the college environment. I'm not sure why she didn't press charges--she should have.

--I know there's always the accusations of sexual promiscuity. That's a non-sequiter, in my opinoin. It's college, folks! We were all whores! DBT still is (happy birthday, BTW).

--GB should be responsible for his own inappropriate remark. I don't think his statement was characteristic of the man, but hey, he said it. It was a stupid thing to say. You publicly support your players as a coach.

--I know that Katie leveraged another year of eligibility from the issue. Big deal. Many players fight for that extra year.

--I didn't read her book.

Now Lisa Simpson? That's another story...

GB was an idiot for calling her terrible, sometimes it is best to not say anything of you have nothing nice to say.

I have two reliable sources that were on the 1999 team tell me to my face that Katie had her top off with other players at the team hotel for the Insight.com bowl. She was also involved with other things. I'm not saying sexual assualt is right if she did get it, but she wasn't the perfect angel as well.

Yep

If she's never talked about on this board I'd be just fine with that. I have nothing nice to say about her and also have some friends that played on that 1999 team and are not big fans of her.

My problem with her is the fact that she came public about it without pressing charges, thereby implicating the ENTIRE CU football team. Then she went on a whirl-wind talk show circuit, throwing gasoline on the fire.

If you're going to cry rape, you'd better be damn ready to step up, name names and press charges.

And she did it after all the Simpson BS started.

If she wanted to make accusations, she needed to name names so her attacker could be brought to justice. Doing what she did cast a cloud over the entire program and it was a chicken**** way out. Any other sympathies I had for her went out the window at that point.

Either keep your mouth shut, or (preferably) name the person who attacked you. But don't make comments and innuendo that smear the entire program. You know what they say about a woman scorned. Katie is a prime example of that.

And Barnett never should have allowed her to walk on in the first place. She was invited by Neuheisel as a publicity stunt and all GB did was honor the invite. Wanna bet he regrets that decision?

Exactly, and that's the same problem I had about the way she came forward with the accusations.

Then they spoke to her locker room partner (a female team trainer or something like that) yet this girl never heard her even remotely mention the incident, or that she was even being harassed? Strange. I'm not saying that makes her a liar, but it certainly takes away much of the credibility of her story. And of course Prick Reilly conveniently left this out of his column.

Exactly. I have no sympathy for rapists. They should all be thrown in a deep, dark hole. BUT, there should be another hole right next to them for women who falsely accuse somebody of rape. Rape is an awful, terrible crime. And even the mere thought that a person has committed rape is enough to brand him for life. To be falsely accused of rape is a life sentence all on it's own. What Hnida did is implicate an entire football team, knowing it would get publicity.

If she really was raped, she needed to say who it was and when it happened. Then put that person on trial and convict him. That's how it is supposed to work.

I'm not going to call her a whore, but she is an attention grabbing opportunist who has no shame and doesn't care who she hurts to get what she wants. In this case, apparently all she wanted was to get back at the CU football team for treating her poorly. The real shame in all this is that she managed to convince Rick Reilly, who went from being a respected sports columnist to 2nd rate hack overnight.

Why are they showing her stupid ass in a Buff uniform. Cant they find any pics of her in a Lobo uni? Thats where she set that amazing record. I cringe less when I see a pic of Carruth in a Buff uni.

He was an idiot for letting her play in the first place. A woman has no business being on a male major college football team or any male contact sport.
It's an accident waiting to happen - stupid!:wow:

He's not the one who let her on the team. We can thank Skippy for that one. I would tend to think that if GB had his way, she would have never been allowed to walk on in the first place. Skippy liked the media potential, not stopping to think about the downside.

GB had no obligation to honor that. None.

True, but he would have taken a lot of heat for cutting her, so burying her on the depth chart seemed like the path of least resistance.

I remember being at a Buff Club luncheon, long before this whole thing blew up, and GB was asked about Hnida. His response was to the effect of "We have four guys on this team that are better kickers than she is, it's not fair to those guys to be discussing her". It was clear that he'd rather have been rid of her long before the proverbial chit hit the fan.

I'm sure some of the things she endured were uncalled for, but you have to consider the players. These guys are out busting their a$$ and along comes a woman who can't kick, is terrible, but she's on the team. That's a direct insult to the other players. I don't think you will see it happen again. Skippy would do anything to draw attention to himself - he should have considered the feelings of his players - GB too.

I still think some dude should go out for field hockey and raise a royal stink under Title IX. He could even say the skirt is a kilt.

Seeing Hnida wearing #2 kinda made me feel bad for Darrell Scott and Hugh Charles.

Katie is attractive enough in that picture, but all the baggage that comes with #2 is revolting.

Bah, too many other #2 that were studs for her to place a complete stain on it.

Nice list of #2s, HF.
Not to drift wrecklessly into an other offseason uniform discussion, but #2 is one case where the Nike uniform with the piping and reflector tape puts some positive sepparation between then and now.

But if anyone says our current #2 is a horrible kicker, I'll still cringe a little bit.

Same goes for Lawrence Phillips. Great football player, horrible human being.
To quote Full Metal Jacket, "He's not even a human ****ing being."

Tried to run over some kids with his automobile, beat up his girlfriend and dragged her down a flight of steps by her hair when he was playing for Nebraska. Osborne kept him on the team saying he was trying to help him. Yeah Tom - I think you really were trying to help your won - loss record - Dr. Tom - politician - makes sense - never speak the truth. Phillips isn't human - he's a slime ball.
