It appears that Kendrick Celestine is re-enrolling to CU, but his status with the football team is up in the air.

This is strange. So I take it that he is bringing the fam along?

I would welcome him back with open arms.

Ringo on his blog says he called Hawk and Hawk has not heard from Celestine. I have to think that Celestine is going to have to get himself back in to the good graces of his former teammates and coaches over the summer to have a chance at being a member of the team again, as well as getting his school work taken care of.

well.... w/Katoa officially gone there's a schollie available-
my guess is that Hawk is going to have to make sure the team
is up w/it.... Kendrick kind of 'bailed' on the team

It will be great for Celestine to re-enroll, but he will be ineligible for the next year, I would think. But regardless, I hope he finishes school.

Where did you hear this news?

Ringo's blog. It was also on Kendrick Facebook page. Rivals has a teaser article up, confirming he's coming back to Boulder. All that said, I think he's got a challenging road ahead of himself to get back into the good graces of the team. We shall see.

How did he "bail" on the team??

Bail may not be quite the right word, but he will have to sit down with the coaches, he reportedly has a good relationship with Kiesau (from article when Kendrick decided to leave) and recommit to them, and ask to be a walk on. I think once this sorts itself out, we will see Kendrick back on the field. He went and handled his business, probably grew up quite a bit becoming a father, and decided that getting a CU education was the best thing for his new child. Playing football would be the cherry on the top for him I suspect.

I see no reason why he would be ineligible for this year other than if he had been failing grades. Which he might be able to make up over the summer.

He may be behind in the number of required completed hours, that's the reason I can think of.

Having kids certainly can make a man realize it's time to get your **** together. Glad to hear that it sounds like that may be the case here.

I don't know his financial situation, but coming back as a walk-on means paying out of state tuition which costs an @$$ load. Maybe he feels there is potential to get a scholarship back.

Either way, I'm glad he decided to come back and wish him the best.

If he still wants to play football, and the team wants him back, I think he would be a valuable asset right away.

I'm all for it. From the limited news that I've seen, the kid left for family reasons. Those issues are now reportedly resolved, and he's ready to resume the life he had to put on hold. I have no issues with that, and I suspect his teammates would be fine with it as well. I see no reason why he'd not be able to come back and contribute right away. The thing with enrolling in Summer classes is probably a way for him to get the required credits taken care of. Last, but certainly not least, I think this should help with the eligibility score stuff that the NCAA is so gung-ho about.

Welcome back with open arms! Sounds like a great guy for taking care of his life responsibilities and then coming back to potentially make ammends with his teammates and the coaches. Hopefully everything works out for the guy and I wish him the best of luck in school, life & hopefully a little bit of football!

yeah, whatever it was....sounds like something good happened not only for the WR group, fans and the team...but with KC. and that's good to hear vs. the stuff in the news a year ago.

:woot: for him being back in school. If he comes back to the FB team that is icing on the cake.

The APR stuff mentioned that he was ineligible when he left; that could be wrong and I'm certainly no expert but since he was enrolled this fall i think he has to make progress towards a degree to be eligible this fall; on the other hand Givens dropped his classes for the fall semester because of the concussions and he's okay so I'm not sure what Celestine would have to do to be eligible this fall.

Regardless, the important thing is that he'll be back in school; his kid needs a father with an education. Welcome back Kendrick!

I don't think the team will hold his situation against him; he obviously had some serious stuff to deal with, its not like he just had a temper tantrum over playing time and walked out.

Celestine situation - has this ever happened before?

I can't remember a time when a kid has left school & the football team to deal with some personal/family issues, and then returned once those issues were resolved.

Can anybody remember a situation like this before? I sure can't.

Re: Celestine situation - has this ever happened before?

No, but this could be a great story for the media to pick up on. A feel good story for the Buffs would be a nice change from the fish hacks.
