David Douglas' Owamagbe Odighizuwa is taking his thing national
Jerry Ulmer, The Oregonian May 12, 2009 8:56 p.m.

For much of his life, football didn't interest Owamagbe Odighizuwa.

He grew up playing soccer in Nigeria, and by the time he reached junior high in the David Douglas School District, he was more into track and field.

"I just didn't want to play football," he said.

But he finally decided to give football a try in the eighth grade, and a few years later, the 6-foot-3, 240-pound David Douglas junior defensive end is one of the most coveted college recruits in the nation.

"It's been really cool. It's been exciting," Odighizuwa said. "I'm just taking it all in."

Updated favorites: Cal, Florida, USC, UCLA, Oregon State, Oregon, Nebraska and Stanford. We seem out of this one barring a minor miracle.

Re: '10 OR DE Owamagbe Odighizuwa

Really a top four IMO: Cal, Florida, USC, and Oregon State.

I'd agree. He said he's set up 4 official visits off of that list and my guess was those 4 schools. He said he's still going to pick a 5th visit from the other teams on the list.

Re: '10 OR DE Owamagbe Odighizuwa

Rivals seems to clearly add UCLA to make a top five. No matter where he goes, it's going to be fun to listen to announcer trip over his name.

Re: '10 OR DE Owamagbe Odighizuwa

WOuld be funny to have his name announced all over Folsom Field, even though that is a pipe dream.

DE Odighizuwa sets up his visits

Defensive end Owamagbe Odighizuwa (Portland, Ore./Douglas) has set up his first three official visits and said there are seven schools on his short list.Odighizuwa is the top rated player in Oregon and a member of the ESPNU 150. He's a tremendous talent coming off the edge and has the size and athleticism to see the field early at the next level.

"I have three of my official visits set up and plan to take all five," Odighizuwa said. "UCLA is (Oct. 9), Cal is (Nov. 6) and Florida is (Nov. 27). I'm also setting visits with USC and Nebraska and will take unofficial visits to Oregon and Oregon State.
"Those are the schools I feel most comfortable with and the ones that have been recruiting me the hardest the past year. I don't have a leader among that group, everyone has a fair shot and I'll make my decision after I see all the schools. The trips will play a big role because I want to see how comfortable I am and where the best fit for me is on and off the field."

As a junior, Odighizuwa had a huge year earning all-state honors after totaling 96 tackles and 18 sacks.

Re: '10 OR DE Owamagbe Odighizuwa

****ing *ebraska. How do they still get interest from these types of players?

Re: '10 OR DE Owamagbe Odighizuwa

Man, every time I look at this recruit updates I se, USC,Oregon etc and most of them don't have cu in their top5. We need a fast start and a strong finish to get some of these kids to visit and get them to be buffs.

Owa has dropped Oregon and has a final 3 of UCLA, Nebraska and Oregon State.

Smart money's on the Corn, but never count out the Weasel. OSU appears to be on the outside looking in.

I actually think Oregon State ends up being the team here. Anywhere but NU as far as I am concerned.

When has a good Defensive lineman ever come out of Portland, OR and went to a boondock place like Lincoln to become a star? Oh wait.
